Installation issues / 12.04 install report
« on: November 16, 2014, 08:00:34 pm »
So I finally took the plunge.
at first I tried the DVD install, but that didn't seem to work out for me. In order to boot my computer with 12.04 I needed to run with bootoption
Quote
nomodeset
. It looks to me that the installer does not care much for that.
Next I installed kubuntu 12.04 and went with the internet- install. The avwizard  came up, but it was enlarged over the whole screen. I edited xorg.conf and changed "Nvidia" to "nv" in the driver section. Another reboot and the wizard went through.
however my clients didn't get their IPs.
I found the following:
Networksettings in webadmin were correct
Ifconfig showed for eth0 192.168.80.0 , which was not correct
Pushing update in the webadmin, without any changes, updated the IP of the nic.
dhcp still not running, showing showed "cannot access /etc/bind/rndc.key permission denied"
Adding "/etc/bind r, " as well as "/etc/bind/ ** r," did the trick

Next thing was tv-card (Hauppauge nova hd-s2)
firmware did not get installed (linux-firmware-nonfree)
had to manually mal videoconnections in order to get tv playback, otherwise mythic would claim that all tuners were busy.

Md creation was straightforward

That's it so far, tomorrow I will check telecom and report back
Cheers
Ok, one more thing
I've scanned for tv stations probably 10 times already and every time rtl television is missing...I don't get it...anyone from Germany, who could help?

Installation issues / can't run 12.04 [solved]
« on: November 03, 2014, 03:03:15 pm »
It seems I would have to wait a little longer to test some new version of lmce. I'm running 10.04 quite nicely, but I got curious about 12.04 since the nice video with the rpi. Anyway I cannot get anything from 12.04 to run. On my hardware (phenom quad-core, Asus m2n-sli deluxe with bios 1804, kingston ssd v300 with latest firmware, nvidia gt610 and 2x2tb hard drives). It boots, then after a while the CD just rumbles away...and then stops. Not even a lives does the trick. However I tried 14.04 as a live CD..works like a charm.

Users / YouTube/html5
« on: August 02, 2014, 11:20:32 pm »
When watching videos on YouTube with 10.04 I still got "smurf tv". I tried setting the installed Firefox to html5 for video playback...which works insofar, that it's not bluish anymore, but I traded the sound for it. Any Ideas?

Users / thinking about new av receiver
« on: July 29, 2014, 11:42:28 pm »
I was wondering, since my current again receiver is getting long in the tooth, what I would buy as a replacement. I figure a ethernet-port would not be a bad idea.
So what do you guys think....got some suggestions?

Users / question about mkv-playback
« on: October 23, 2013, 11:01:07 am »
I noticed, that if I have mkv-files with ac3-sound and bitrates higher than 384, or DTS, then the playback on my MD (asrock 330, ion-platform) is quite choppy. If I remux the files to only ac3 with 384kbit/s, then they all play nicely.
So I was wondering, if this is a limitation in the playback-software or of my hardware. What do you think? By the way, when setting up this md, dts-test completed successfully.

is this normal?

Users / samba password
« on: October 02, 2013, 12:15:16 pm »
samba password expired? last night I did an apt-get upgrade and I think there was also along the lines of smb included.
Anyways this morning I was not able to access my fileshares on the server. I had to go to the webadmin and change the password for my user. So I'm guessing the password for smb actually expired- is this by design?

Users / virtual machine +tv-card
« on: September 04, 2013, 04:57:21 pm »
I was wondering...if I was going to tinker around with something like 12.04...and I wanted to also keep my running system intact...I could try to virtualise it. So far no problem. But what I was wondering about, is for example my TV-card, that is residing in my server. Is it actually possible to utilise it from within a virtual machine?

Users / youtube and the Blueman group [solved-partly]
« on: May 27, 2013, 02:50:16 pm »
at least thats how it looks like, when I'm trying to watch anything on youtube with lmce. Is there something I can do to get all colors in youtube? Right now everything looks completely blueish.

Users / autotag seems hanging
« on: May 18, 2013, 12:11:44 pm »
I'm having a bit of an issue with autotagging. I will start it in a directory with some tv-shows in it. The script will start and shows the log. There it will download a zip-file and start expanding it...and thats the point where its hanging...for hours, even days. The webadmin will not respond anymore and the whole system slows down to a crawl.  I don't really have an idea how to solve this issue.

Users / qoribter reconnects to old device
« on: May 04, 2013, 08:27:04 pm »
I recently did a reinstall of lmce. After I was done I wanted to get qorbiter running again. So far so good, but it always wants to connect to the device from the old install. When the startup-screen shows, I tried many times to change the entry for the orbiter-number, but it doesn't work. I uninstalled qorbiter, deleted the appdata..but somehow it always comes back.

Installation issues / Geforce GT610
« on: April 28, 2013, 09:58:15 am »
just a question about hdmi-sound with this card. I popped it in my more last night and let the AVWizard run. When it came to selecting a soundcard, I saw my soundblastercar (which would be removed later) and my TV-Card. My plan is to change my setup in the house a little, so that the core would be connected to my TV via hdmi and also deliver the sound. So far I have an MD doing that, but that one will be reassigned to my projector. However in order for this to work, I need the hdmi-sound on this card, but I couldn't select it so far.

Installation issues / new soundcard
« on: March 29, 2013, 07:11:32 pm »
Right now I got an audigy2 as in my core. But spdif is not working as it should. So was thinking about an alternative. I found a very cheap soundcard with spdif coaxial ...digitus ds-33700 which uses a via vt1723 chip. Does anybody know, of this will work with once 10.04?

Installation issues / 8400gs resolution
« on: March 27, 2013, 10:19:36 pm »
I got myself a new projector -optoma hd300x- and hooked it up to my core via HDMI-cable. Right now my problem is, that I cannot get a higher resolution than 1024x768. Any higher than that and it will always revert.
So I was wondering, how I can get this to comply. Does anyone have an idea?

On a side note, I have a audigy 2 zs in my core too, which I have trouble with spdif coax sound. in alsamixer, i only see spdif optical and if I turn it off, I get sound on coax, but trying dts for example gives me nasty hissing sounds. I know l3mce said he is working on it ( god knows, he is working on a lot of stuff).

Installation issues / tagging episodes
« on: March 16, 2013, 08:33:46 pm »
It seems the new autotagger 1.5 doesn't like my files anymore. Instead of tagging the files and putting covers it shows this:
Quote
Found Overriding Media Sub Type::0
***************No scanner for this file type, file complete*****************
**************************End File*****************************
Using the tvdb doesn't work either. I can select the show and season and get this:
Quote
Series ID::82459Duplicate entry '4684-0-0-0' for key 'PRIMARY'
After that in the whole season one episode gets tagged...interestingly enough, this one episode is also then recognised by the autotagger.
