Just want to post this here future reference hope LMCE team don't mind, and for any one looking for transparent proxy the below works, I have it working on Linuxmce 10.4

remember I  am not responsible  if your machine breaks. but again I just want some were to future reference.

I respect the fact that squid in been worked on for the new up coming releases. as per
and well done to the dev's.

Here'ss my quick notes to get it working  (some wording is taken from &  )

Thank's to these wiki pages they helped a lot

sudo apt-get install squid3
edit squid3 config
nano /etc/squid3/squid.conf
http_port 3128 to http_port 3128 transparent
Find the "acl localhost src" line and insert the following line below: "acl dcerouterlocalnet src"
Under the line is one that reads "http_access allow localhost". Below this you need to insert a line allowing your local LAN; "http_access allow dcerouterlocalnet. Now save the file, and exit.

apt-get install dansguardian
nano /etc/dansguardian/dansguardian.conf
change filter port to  8081 and proxyip =

/etc/init.d/apache2 restart
/etc/init.d/dansguardian stop
/etc/init.d/dansguardian start
sudo /etc/init.d/squid3 restart

Edit file /usr/pluto/bin/ from terminal

nano /usr/pluto/bin/ OR  vi /usr/pluto/bin/

NOTE: check ifconfig to figure out what lan card has static address  eht0 or eth1  change the eth in the forward port rule to match lan card of static ip address from LMCE .ie

Add the below line  in just under the heading # Set some default firewall parameters before opening ports

iptables -A PREROUTING -t nat -i eth0 -p tcp --dport 80 -j REDIRECT --to-port 8081

Then close and save  and reboot the system, visit to check if proxy is working.

The normal firewall forwarding rule would not work even if  you enable it, so my work around was to setup upon booting the core.

Install proxy graph to view the hits and page catches, follow the following link.

Create cronjob under root  to update chart

crontab -e

Add the following line

*/5 * * * * cd /etc/init.d/squid-graph && ./squid-graph --tcp-only -n -o=/var/www/squid-graph/ --title="Give your report a title " < /var/log/squid3/access.log

CD into /etc/init.d/squid-graph and edit the file  nano squid-graph to add auto refresh to the html report for every 6 minutes

Locate the below line
print IDX "<H1>$title</H1>\n";

And add the below line under it

print IDX "<meta http-equiv=\"refresh\" content=\"360\" \n";

Installation issues / video stops playing
« on: August 24, 2014, 09:01:32 pm »
Hi folks

Recently  I have noticed when watching a video on MD the video stops playing right about 20 mins into the film.

I  have completed a full re-install and the same thing happens, I thinking it may have something to do with  hardware but  I am not to sure, as I have put the MD directly to the core to remove the router from been the issue.

But the same thing keeps happening.

Is there away to trail the issue while playing the video on the MD

Hi folks

I have been at this  for number weeks try to adding more then one network card.

My idea behind it is to remove my four port switch down stairs from the network and plug directly into the linuxmce.

what I am trying to archive is the below.

eth2 --- linuxmce network
eth3  (new net pci card) ----linuxmce network
eth4  ( new net pci card) ----linuxmce network

2 directly to my client in the TV room
3 directly to my client in the Kitchen
4 directly to my netgear wireless switch upstairs in the cinema room and to the rest the rooms upstairs.

Is possible to have more then one PCI network card working with linxumce

Please, any advice or help would be great.

sudo apt-get install python-mysqldb

choose Y

Once installed follow the below

1. Login to lmce-admin and disable the normal flickr under File & Media Screensaver.
2. Login to a terminal of your choice.
3.If  you want to instill it follow the below instructions or simply  download and view the files before running.

while there

sudo -i
enter password then press enter

cd  /var/www/lmce-admin press enter

while in the directory run

let it download......

while in the same directory enter the below

let it unzip.....

chmod -R 777 flickr/files press enter to be added to the setup script

Once completed move to this  step .

In your web browser go the web admin of linuxmce and run the below

when running  this file, it will take care of  the inserts to the database.

Once the file is finish go back to main lmce-admin.

Under Files & Media you should now have Flickr Private Photos, click it and it will load  the page to enter the api & secret.

Enter your flickr api & secret and click submit, then click the download file.

Thats the lmce-admin DONE ! now to get your photos from flickr

Go back to a terminal of your choice.

sudo -i

enter password word

cd /home/public/data/pictures

while in this directory enter

python flickrpriv

it run the  python script.

The first time it runs you will need to copy the activation url into your browser to allow to approve the use of the script. once this is activated you then press enter in the terminal  and then your photos start to download.

so let me start,

i did a fresh install of linux mce and i have installed a WinTV-PVR-500, now my problem  is mythtv admin setup doesnt pull in my tv card after me selecting the card,

i selected MPEG-2 Incoder card (PVRX50 , PVR500)

Now when channel editor

when i go to scan for channels  and hit the channel scanner i get the following error in the scan type, failed to open card.

now when i check the md in the admin it shows

PVR Capture Card
PVR-500 - Tuner 1
