anyone experience with some of the other 2.4ghz/bluetooth remote types? Would be nice if we can have some experiences since finding a good remote seems hard. Especially the first one looks nice:

how many entries you have?

Check if there are no double entries (by removing drives or moving stuff manually). I removed all entries from the database and did a rescan and that made a lot of difference.

Look at the VDR wiki page you linked. In case you have a problem, translate it using google translate, and you can answer the question yourself.

I must be missing something reading that since you reply as if it is very obvious. I see 2 versions of VDR on apt-cache show vdr on my box (1.7.20-8yavdr1~lucid and 1.6.0-9ubuntu2) and both seem to be older then the 1.7.22 version where it is supposed to be included. So the question is if someone added the patch and if not can it be included. (same question of course applies for mythtv)

A reboot switched the NVidia and AK4571 soundcard so I had to revert back to 1 as the card. The /etc/pluto/simplephone.conf file seems to be overwritten all the time but not with the correct values but with the default values. I changed the file manually by changing the alsa device part to:

setted the unmutable attirbute with:
chattr +i /etc/pluto/simplephone.conf

and then quick reloaded the router.
I now can call although the other side complained about the bad sound quality. Mainly they asked me to get closer to the mic cause when I was like within a meter it was ok but further away the sound was not loud enough. Is there a way/configuration to improve that cause I read somewhere that it should function nicely up to 20 meters.

Ok. So I removed the device again. The Vendor ID in the template is 05560004 and lsusb saids: Bus 002 Device 005: ID 0556:0004 Asahi Kasei Microsystems Co., Ltd so that looks ok to me, correct me if I'm wrong.

Since the card is the 2nd I suppose mine should be plughw:2. I went to Advanced > Configuration > Device templates, selected template nr 1963 (phoenix audio technologies - Solo usb conference microphone) changed the #74 Alsa Output Device to plughw:2 and saved the template.

after rebooting it still does not work. When I make a call it is still ringing on the default sound card (not sure if that is suppose to happen).

However linuxmce did not notify me of anything and no template was added. I manually added the template (Solo USB Conference Microphone #1963) to the hybrid but it still shows as Registered: No and calling does not work.

Anything else I need to configure/setup?

That is exactly what I mean. There are several posibilities and I think that there are many use cases.

HDMI cables can be pretty long so I guess a lot of hybrid users could add an additional MD without requiring any additional hardware & power usage.

USB cable has its limitations but adding a touchscreen usb monitor and use it as a fixed orbiter would be a great feature that many might be able to use.

On a separate MD I agree that the electrical power difference would depend on the usage. However by adding a bit faster cpu the electrical power difference when running would not increase much but the performance increase would be very welcome.

Tell your isp to fix the dns numbers they are sending you.  This is not an lmce problem that I can see.

it works properly on windows, mac and a normal linux install... it breaks stuff on linuxmce. you really think that an ISP will give a F#$% about someone running linuxmce? Such things should not break linuxmce even if it is bad from an ISP.

Is the Realtek® ALC887 known te work? I have a new Asus P8Z77-V LX mainboard and a fresh 10.04 final installation but no sound.

not very hopeful

I guess this is a nice feature for most people (I suppose not many live in a 2000+ square feet house). this could save on quite some hardware and electricity and even improve performance by being able to use a bit better hardware and divide it over multiple MD's.
