Users / X not working after upgrade
« on: October 14, 2011, 12:49:40 pm »
It might be a coincidence that X was not comming up after the last dist-upgrade I did on 1004 cause I also added some hardware recently but I thought I'd post it here in case someone else has the same issue. I got a warning in Xorg that nvidia failed to initialize the graphics device in /var/log/Xorg.0.log
Code: [Select]
(EE) Oct 14 07:08:42 NVIDIA(0): Failed to initialize the NVIDIA GPU at PCI:3:0:0.  Please
(EE) Oct 14 07:08:42 NVIDIA(0):     check your system's kernel log for additional error
(EE) Oct 14 07:08:42 NVIDIA(0):     messages and refer to Chapter 8: Common Problems in the
(EE) Oct 14 07:08:42 NVIDIA(0):     README for additional information.
(EE) Oct 14 07:08:42 NVIDIA(0): Failed to initialize the NVIDIA graphics device!

Eventually I created a custom boot entry for grub in /etc/grub.d/40_custom by adding to the end of the linux line the option (just copy the existing one from /boot/grub/grub.cfg):
Code: [Select]
vmalloc=256MB
then running update-grub and checking in the file /boot/grub/grub.cfg which entry number the new entry and adding that number to /etc/default/grub as the GRUB_DEFAULT (I also set the GRUB_HIDDEN_TIMEOUT=2 and GRUB_HIDDEN_TIMEOUT_QUIET=false)

then ran another update-grub and rebooted and I got X again.

Users / Re: New PLCBUS driver
« on: October 09, 2011, 10:17:52 pm »
Hi!

I wondered if the 3phase in PLCBUS is still suppose to work. I saw in the thread that plcbus was pnp now so I added some childs (using 1004) to the device but had no success this far (probably something wrong on my side but I thought I'd better verify it). I set the log level  and got the following (I hear the 'noice' on all the devices when I press a button so something is happening on the powerline).

Code: [Select]

I understood from possi that the digital devices dvb-S2 work with the ngene driver (check for the types though):
http://shop.digital-devices.de/DuoFlex-S2-Octopus/en

for encrypted channels you might want to try the smargo cardreader:

I have the same problem with Freenas. I added
Code: [Select]
force create mode = 0777
directory mask = 0777

to the Auxiliary parameters of the share.

Not really a proper solution.....

anyone knows a better way to fix this?

I understand you have to make money. Just thought that keeping up to date with the (k)ubuntu releases is a basic thing and you would be more helped by having the LinuxMCE guys focus on other things instead. that's all.

By the way: ever thought of putting a pricetag on some closed improvements you made and see if the linuxmce community is able and willing to pay for it to make it open source? I suppose the main part of your and linuxmce users base are totally different so it would not affect your normal business that much.

Regards,

E.

Beside that it is not released as GPL(yet) are there other reasons it is not integrated in LinuxMCE? I would say both projects would go smoother the more they are in sync and can use/help each other. I'd rather see the Linuxmce devs make functional improvements then in staying up to date with updates if that can be arranged differently ;-).

Is the 3-phase functional and tested? I saw the checkbox in the admin but can't seem to get it to work.

thx!

Somehow xine is not working so I tried to reinstall a MD to see with a fresh install. I installed the sources.list of Murdock ( http://forum.linuxmce.org/index.php?topic=10901.msg75427#msg75427 )

But running /usr/pluto/bin/Diskless_CreateTBZ.sh fails with lots of 404s (see attachment). anyone an idea how to solve it?

afaik all you need is a phase coupler - marmitek.nl might have some.

I the manual it mentions:

If the power line system in your home is 3-phaes, you need to adjust your #4034E to "3-phase" status. That means before you use your #4034E, you need to confirm which status your #4034E is between "1-phase" and "3-phase".

I suppose that status influences the way it functions.

Anyone knows?

I understood from Hari that someone else has done the work for 3 phase integration of PLC Bus. Anyone knows how to configure it so it will work in 3 phase mode?

thx!
