Users / LinuxMCE suddenly rings
« on: November 14, 2014, 07:23:20 am »
LMCE suddenly started ringing. I have tons of unknown entries in the call log but non on the specific ring times. Any ideas what it might be and what might cause it? Also what are all those entries?

Users / way to play/select music. another player?
« on: November 06, 2014, 11:54:14 am »
Anyone has some experience with alternative ways to play music on lmce? I either am missing the flexibility or am using it differently cause I cannot seem to get to easily play audio. My use case is pretty simple: I know where the audio that I want to play is located on the system but cannot easily reach it. when I do a search I can only play one file at a time but I just want to play the folder. I only managed to do that on the public share but the audio I want to play is not. Any ideas?

Users / RF remote, gyration replacement
« on: October 26, 2014, 11:24:02 am »
Anyone already found a proper and affordable replacement for the gyration remotes? My last one is dying and I like to have a comparable replacement. I have a Mele F10 which is not getting close to the gyration in opens and feel.
I also sow the ones below but maybe someone already found a very good solution.....

Users / extra drive in core 12.04
« on: August 26, 2014, 12:27:20 pm »
Anybody knows what might cause this bug to occur:

http://trac.linuxmce.org/trac/ticket/2140

Possy saids he has extra drives running without issues which seems strange if that ticket is valid.

Do I need a login now to create trac tickets?

I wanted to put in a feature request for redshift. batches:

done

DEVICEDATA_COLORTEMPDAY=322
DEVICEDATA_COLORTEMPNIGHT=323

# get colors from devicetemplate
COLORTEMPDAY=$(GetDeviceData "$DEVICE" "$DEVICEDATA_COLORTEMPDAY")
COLORTEMPNIGHT=$(GetDeviceData "$DEVICE" "$DEVICEDATA_COLORTEMPNIGHT")

DEVICEDATA_LONGITUDE=108
DEVICEDATA_LATITUDE=109

Q="

EVENTPLUGINID=$(RunSQL "$Q")

LATITUDE=$(GetDeviceData "$EVENTPLUGINID" "$DEVICEDATA_LATITUDE")

DISPLAY=:0 $REDSHIFT -l $LONGITUDE:$LATITUDE -t $COLORTEMPDAY:$COLORTEMPNIGHT

Don't know how to add a package to a template so have not added the info package yet (it's in the repos: sudo apt-get install redshift)

Users / Power saving topic
« on: August 05, 2014, 02:54:03 pm »
With power efficiency getting more and more a popular topic I thought it might be interesting to post a thread where people can post any suggestion they have to make a LinuxMCE home as power efficient as possible. I recently read some general power saving threads and there people aim at about 1000 kWh per year for a household. How nice if we can also achieve similar results without limiting the home automation and media comforts...

all ideas welcome!

Users / Joggler install script
« on: April 03, 2014, 06:26:11 pm »
I created a script to install the orbiter (12.04) on squeezeplayOS on the joggler (http://wiki.linuxmce.org/index.php/Joggler). You first need to flash squeezeplayOS on the joggler and then running this script will configure&install everything on the joggler (all that remains is creating the orbiter via the web interface)
The script displays some usage info when running it. Just put it on your core and run it (takes about 20 minutes or so).

What I found is that during the apt upgrade process update-initramfs fails which is annoying. If somebody knows how to fix that I will include it. (http://forum.linuxmce.org/index.php?topic=13647.0)

Unfortunately the Orbiter seems to eat a lot of cpu power when going into screensaver mode (about 4 times as much) and even more when showing that nice clock that Thom made (about 7!!! times). If anybody can fix that....

I made a dirty hack to move the mousepointer out of the way which is not a nice solution but needs to do for now. (Thom said he already tried to fix the orbiter behavior regarding that but has not succeeded thus far. Again: anyone capable and willing..... http://forum.linuxmce.org/index.php?topic=13648.0)

This also prevented me from switching the screen off. Using 'xset dpms force off' turns it off but it is put back on within a split second.

Attach is the file containing the install script and the config files required by it.

Developers / hide mouse cursor on orbiter on joggler
« on: April 02, 2014, 03:46:31 pm »
I wondered if it is possible to hide the mouse cursor on joggler when on the orbiter. I also tried as described here: http://slashdot.org/comments.pl?sid=55567&cid=5414812

it mentions that if it does not work it is because of the program being executed. Could it be that it needs to be changed in the orbiter?

Users / tearing in mythtv 0.26 on 12.04
« on: April 01, 2014, 10:16:46 am »
I notice a bit o tearing in mythtv on 0.26. I watched a movie yesterday where I did not notice it at all. Anybody experienced the same and maybe has a solution. I saw on the wiki of mythtv that disabling composite in xorg.conf might solve it. Does this influence other behavior of lmce? I have a nvidia geforce GT520.

Users / howto keep a pipe active
« on: March 28, 2014, 07:40:16 pm »
Anyone can tell me how I can make sure a pipe stays on/active even after the normal devices stop using it? So some kind of parallel dummy device that uses the pipe and stays active until stopped manually.

Users / Remote (gyration) not repeating commands
« on: March 27, 2014, 10:11:05 am »
I have a gyration 3101 remote which gets detected by the GO Cordless GC1005M #1812 template. According to its configuration string it need to repeat the volume up and down keys when they are being pressed:
Code: [Select]
voldn,122,R
VolUp,123,R
However while the orbiter receives a lot of key presses DCE router and so the general serial device that should use it do not, they only receive 2 of them and then stop while the orbiter still receives them. Anyone knows why this might be the case?

Users / Where to debug squeezeslave not starting?
« on: March 24, 2014, 09:51:58 am »
I added a squeezeslave device on 'Wizard | A/V Equipment', put it in a room, set the 'Alsa Output Device', gave it a MAC, updated it and reloaded the router. It added as device 105. The process does not appear to be running. I get no loggin in the file:
Code: [Select]
# ls -lia /var/log/pluto/105*
ls: cannot access /var/log/pluto/105*: No such file or directory

I tried adding some extra logging as described in http://wiki.linuxmce.org/index.php/Logging_levels to /etc/pluto.conf (currently am on LogLevels = 1,5,7,8,10,13,22,29,30,34 ) and reloaded the router but I am not sure which ones are appropriate. Slim log (/var/log/pluto/58_Slim_Server_Streamer.log) saids it is creating the device and it is an unknown type. Any suggestions?
