Users / Battery powered ZWave switch
« on: January 08, 2011, 10:01:10 pm »
Hi guys,
I bought Battery powered ZWave switch [1], and I must say that it looks just awesome! It is super thin, and when installed on the wall it wont be any thicker than regular wall switch (huge bonus!).

Just imagine that you finished renovating your flat or house and see that you need few more light switches. Instead of engineers coming back and punching new holes in your walls you just install new battery operated wireless zwave switches and you are done.

It seams that doing inclusion and association is a bit complicated on this device, even more that doing inclusion of security battery powered devices :( And german only manuals are not much help.

Anybody got this switch? How did you do inclusion and associataion?

Any help is apprecaited.

Cheers,
Valent.

Users / How to setup ZWave security sensors manually?
« on: December 21, 2010, 11:40:48 am »
I have two ZWave security sensors, one is SP103 motion sensor [1] and other is SM103 door sensor [2].

The issue is that they aren't plug and play and as I'm really a linuxmce noob I'm not sure what I'm doing is ok or not. I has no issues with light switches but they are plug and play so they register automatically.

I looked at SP103 wiki page [1] but from I can see that some steps are missing in those instructions.

If anybody who has SP103 can help that would be really great, not only for me but also for anybody else who has SP103 or will buy it soon.

Can you provide STEP-BY-STEP instructions how you added SP103 or SM103 into LinuxMCE? I'll gladly help with WIKI editing if that is a problem for you or you don't have time to do it.

Via current instructions it looks like security modules are added automatically but I'm not seeing that and from what I have read they should be added manually.

So lets make LinuxMCE WIKI more user friendly and help us who have this gear and others who will buy them later.

Please in writing your replies don't take anything for granted, expect that we don't know anything and please explain every step how you did what so that others can reproduce your steps even it they have slightly different setup than you do.

Cheers,
Valent.

Users / X10 controller for 220V voltage in Europe?
« on: December 20, 2010, 11:57:11 am »
Hi,
I'm looking for X10 controller and PC interface that would work with LinuxMCE but for european 220V voltage system.

I have looked through WIKI and Forum but didn't find some concrete info. All info that I found I have added to WIKI for easy reference later:
http://wiki.linuxmce.org/index.php/CM15A
http://wiki.linuxmce.org/index.php/CM11A
http://wiki.linuxmce.org/index.php/Category:X10

Is anybody using X10 in Europe on 220V? What is your setup? Which X10 controller are you using? Which X10 PC interface device you are using?

Cheers,
Valent.

Eight Channel DIN Rail Mountable Switch:

pdf: http://p5.hu/hu/letoltesek/termek_fileok/31/
video: http://p5.hu/hu/termekek/video/termek/34/

Looks interesting, but not if there are any benefits when comparing it to KNX switches?!?

Do you see any benefits and if you would use this IP switch instead of KNX or not?

Users / GlobalCache WF2IR
« on: December 19, 2010, 07:49:43 pm »
Are all GlobalCache products compatible with LinuxMCE?

I'm especially interested in buying GlobalCache WF2IR:
http://www.smarthome.com/81186/Global-Cache-WF2IR-iTach-Wi-Fi-to-IR/p.aspx

I guess they all use same protocol so they should all work, but has anybody tried?

Users / ZWave wizard fail on latest LinuxMCE snapshot
« on: December 13, 2010, 10:00:08 pm »
Hi guys,
installed latest LinuxMCE 8.10 snapshot over the weekend but still after two days can't get any ZWave device integrated into LinuxMCE.

I take my Aeon Labs Z-Wave usb stick and reset it, then go to HomePro ZDW232 dimmer light switch, include it, and plug stick back in LinuxMCE.

Wizard comes up but none of the buttons is responding, and after a while wizard exits and I get back to main LinuxMCE screen but I don't see any light added and there wasn't a step where LinuxMCE turns on/off light.

Any ideas why?

Anybody using ZWave successfully with latest LinuxMCE snapshots?

The most frustrating part is that I don't know how to troubleshoot this issue and find root cause. Are there command line tools for Zwave troubleshooting? If there is please point me to forum post or wiki page that explains it. If there is no wiki page I can help create it so other users also benefit.

If some of senior devels wants I can give you ssh access to my linuxmce box so you can do direct troubleshooting if you want.

Cheers,
Valent.

Users / LinuxMCE and EnOcean Wi-CT Wireless Power Meter ?
« on: December 12, 2010, 11:19:16 pm »
Hi guys,
have no experience with EnOcean so I'm wondering it this power meter device works with LinuxMCE or there needs to be implemented before it will work.

Any chance that this meter already works with LinuxMCE?

Users / Inrom's New Low-power, Fan-less Home Automation Touchscreen

http://www.automatedhome.co.uk/New-Products/Inrom-s-New-Low-power-Fan-less-Home-Automation-Touchscreen.html

Probably totally incompatible with LinuxMCE but really nice piece of hardware for automated home so I thought to share info about this nice gadget.

UPDATE, later I found this video: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=tNAQEWD-2F4
and this one for their web server: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=BxWtQdMWqEI

Now I see that is not only a display as I first thought but full home automation in a small package, impressive.

Users / ZWave standalone functionality
« on: October 12, 2010, 11:43:51 pm »
I have one ZWave related question, is there a way to get some basic ZWave functions working when for whatever reason LinuxMCE is not working?

For example can I setup that when Everspring_SP103 motion sensor has detected motion that HomePro ZDW232 dimmer light switch turns on the lights?

How is that done if possible.

Cheers,
Valent.

Users / Remote with Motion Sensor
« on: September 29, 2010, 02:15:38 pm »
Has anybody notices this motion sensor remote before?
http://www.chinavasion.com/product_info.php/pName/wireless-pc-remote-with-motion-sensor/

Looks like it could be a perfect match for lmce, not sure if it would just work with plug and play or needs some setup for motion sensor to work right away?

It looks pretty cheap so maybe somebody from the forums buys it and lets the rest of us know how it works with lmce

Cheers,
Valent.

Users / some X10 devices that won't burn down my house?!?
« on: September 25, 2010, 01:05:22 pm »
Hi,
I have been looking X10 devices on lots of websites, the good thing about them is that they are pretty cheap (when compared to ZWave devices) but they also look really, I mean really cheap. They look so cheap that I'm afraid that they will melt when I plug them in and burn the house down...
ZWave devices (at lease ones I bought) look and feel really quality made, not cheap plastics.

So please suggest some EU, Chinese or US shops with quality X10 gear. What have you own and has worked for you without issues? I prefer shops with a bit higher price but really low shipping fee more than other way around.

I'm in Croatia (soon to be part of EU) so I prefer EU and Chinese shops because US shops usually have some crazy shipping fees.

Thank you in advance,
Valent.

Users / Arduino anemometer (wind meter)
« on: September 23, 2010, 10:37:05 pm »
Here is a nice DIY anemometer based on 1-wire wind sensor.

Is it possible to just GC-100 (http://wiki.linuxmce.org/index.php/GlobalCache_GC-100)?

Could this work? Could GC-100 be used to count impulses that wind sensors sends?

Users / LinuxMCE snapshoting with btrfs, zfs, lvm... ?
« on: July 30, 2010, 09:38:08 am »
Currently lmce 0810 is quite unstable and between updates some things are being broken, the obvious solution is to create backup or snapshot before doing any update and then revert back if any issues are found.

I would like to start using 0810 for my flat and not worry about when (not if) some update will break my system :(

I don't expect that this feature be implemented in lmce but some more skilled linux users could do this manually or with few scripts. I use LVM but haven't used it's snapshot feature because it has one big drawback you have to specify snapshot volume size and once you run out of that space there are no more snapshots, also each snapshot (if you do it daily or weekly) creates new full size image that takes lots of space. Also snapshots significantly degrada LVM performance.

Btrfs and ZFS have much better snapshots that do copy-on-write shapshots, ta. Btrfs is not available in 0810, but will be when lmce switches to Ubuntu 10.04. ZFS is only available in userspace so you can't use it for your root partition :(

Any thoughts on this?

I was thinking of trying btrfs on lmce, I can get kernel up to date with btrfs support without problem, but not sure if it is possible to install btrfs tools from Ubuntu 10.04 debs on lmce 0810. Any thoughts? Suggestions?

Andrew if I understood you have your own update repositories for Dianemo, right? You probably test carefully everything before pushing out an update, or you don't even do any remote updates?

Do any of you thing this is even worth the trouble?

ps. As I'm Fedora user and yum had neat "yum downgrade" feature, not sure if apt-get has something similar. If it does then it would be a simple task of just checking which packages were updated in last update and downgrading the problematic one to version that worked ok.
