Feature requests & roadmap / Re: Ademco/Honeywell Vista ICM
« on: May 05, 2008, 01:10:24 am »
I got the module and have it installed, but I can't for the life of me figure out how LMCE is supposed to interface or even be configured to use an ethernet enabled security panel (supported or not)...I know I have to configure this panel manually through the web admin, but haven't been able to nail down any info on configuring devices in this manner with it.  Any suggestions?

Feature requests & roadmap / Re: XBMC style interface (skinning)
« on: May 01, 2008, 05:55:15 am »
I think they are referring to the usability and simplicity of the skinning engine of XBMC.  To be fair, LinuxMCE is capable of much more than XBMC, but as a user of the XBMC skinning engine (I wrote 90% of the original MC360 xml's if anyone follows the project), I can tell you it is much easier to work with XBMC's engine.  I'd love to see progress made on the skinnability of LinuxMCE as I personally don't much care for the current LinuxMCE UI and would love to participate in projects towards alternatives, but the learning curve is quite steep currently.

The panel is already installed, the ICM module puts the panel on the network and allows control and monitoring of the system over the network.  I think I'm missing the point of wiring directly when this module should allow it to interface the same as the officially supported alarm panels that are connected over ethernet.

I have a Monitronix Vista-15PMT, I'm almost certain it is simply a rebranded Honeywell Vista-15P.  Anyways, I ordered the Vista-ICM last night so I will be doing some testing once I have it installed.  I'm also looking to tie my HVAC into the security panel and let LinuxMCE manage everything.  If you've got any information on tying the HVAC stuff together with that alarm panel please let me know.  Hopefully we can work together to figure something out since we're dealing with the same hardware.

Installation issues / nvidia 7600gt woes
« on: April 12, 2008, 02:54:20 am »
I read in the wiki about the avsetupwizard configuring with a blank screen, but it doesn't work with my setup.  I'm running 0710b4 with an nvidia 7600 card.  Svideo works, but my display is a santo plv-z4 projector that's native 720p so svideo is lame.  I tried component at 720p and get a flicker then no signal, I tried a dvi d-hdmi adapter (2 different brands even) and can get video on it but it has a purple tinge (other hdmi sources work fine though.  Any ideas, I'm pulling my hair out with this issue.

Developers / GUI Improvements
« on: April 10, 2008, 02:05:26 am »
I am new here and new to LMCE, but have been trolling reading for a little over a month.  That said, I setup a test system last week and have been doing a bit of playing seeing what the system is capable of.  I must say it is quite impressive and I am excited to start building a full fledged setup.  There are some issues I noticed right off the bat though that I understand this is still in early development and all that, but are quite a turn-off.  Now, before this comes off as an end-user whining and complaining, I want to say I've searched the wiki for the information and am somewhat confused being as I am new to Linux as well.  I also want to stress that I am basically seeking out the information to improve these issues and submit them as patches.

1.  I most likely won't be able to do anything about this, but channel changing on my PVR-250 with cable connected directly to the card seems extremely slow compared to my tivo.  Also, picture quality is horrible, is this an issue or is something in my setup likely the culprit?

2.  The UI needs quite a bit of polishing, text is too long for most fields, inconsistencies throughout setup and configuration, bad graphics, sloppy feeling navigation within the main UI if not using a gyration remote, etc.  The 704 video made it all appear very impressive, but the text issues are apparent there as well.  I've searched for information on skinning, but didn't come up with much useful information, just some stuff that really doesn't make sense.  This is the area I feel I can contribute to, but the documentation is difficult to understand and find.
