I have a MCE remote with coloured buttons but do not use them.
the Win MCE button I use all the time, the volume up and down is on the remote. FF, RW Pause is on the remote. The lights can not be controlled without the coloured buttons, unless you use the onscreen orbiter lighting menu

I had a similar problem, some of my audio did not seem to show up from my second harddrive which is NTFS. however, I have since found that they are there but have not shown up. I think it is because of the view filters. I think by default it shows the Performer but if the file has nothing for the attribute performer then it will not show up.
I suggest you check this by using Search and searching on the filename, This is how I can find them. when I get more time I will add the correct attributes in LMCE (I thought they were there when using Win MCE)
Hope this helps
Jason

As the MAC addresses are different for different adapters I tried using the WIFI adapter instead of the wired adapter and can now access the internet. with this in mind I would like to try removing the wired ethernet device from the DHCP config file but I am not sure how to do this.
Can anybody give me instructions on how to edit the DHCP config file?
Thanks Jason

Dave, thanks for your reply
Were you able to get the MCE_usb2 to control the reciever at all or just automatically? what I am trying to ask is when yours wasn't working did it work if you commanded using the AV controls like mine does?
mine is the MCE_usb2

Sorry have been away
Device 28 is the LIRC Embedded Transmit
I have tried looking in the logs in the launch manager but cannot find any commands associated with pipes or these devices. Can you tell me exactly were these would be, I am not very used to Linux yet.
I know that if I hit the 'resend AV codes' button when playing media the screen tells me that my reciever and tv are in use. if I then hit the Advanced button for the reciever I get a list of functions that my reciever can do. if I click on these functions I can see the IR blaster LED light up and the Reciever does what was asked of it.

I think it is set up correctly as a Child See the device tree there is a plus button on 'mce usb2' -> 'LIRC Embedded transmit' -> VSX-411 As for DCErouter.log I couldn't find anything in there relaated. I did find a log relating to LIRC: == ATTEMPT FRESH START == 1 08/21/08 19:49:14 /usr/pluto/bin/Spawn_Device.sh 27 (spawning-device) 22672 Dev: 27; Already Running list: 15,16,17,18,30,31,59,64,116,110,20,26,21,25,34,114, == FRESH START == 1 08/21/08 19:49:14 /usr/pluto/bin/Spawn_Device.sh 27 (spawning-device) device: 27 ip: localhost cmd_line: LIRC_DCE 0 08/21/08 19:49:14 27 (spawning-device) Entering 27 ========== NEW LOG SECTION ========== 1 08/21/08 19:49:14 27 (spawning-device) Starting... 1 1 08/21/08 19:49:14 27 (spawning-device) Found /usr/pluto/bin/LIRC_DCE 05 08/21/08 19:49:14.923 Creating Leeching Thread for 1 remotes <0x2b3eb9e44910> 05 08/21/08 19:49:14.926 Creating child 28 <0x2b3eb9e44910> 05 08/21/08 19:49:14.926 Note: Device manager has attached a device of type 1911 that this has no custom event handler for. We encourage buying from the rest of the world with our shipping policy - £3.95 anywhere in the world.
Still negotiating terms with the supplier. I will post a link to the special LMCE community prices I talekd about earlier in this post as soon as I have them

I have my reciever (Pioneer VSX-410) set up to be controlled by IR. I am pretty sure the codes are correct because I can go to the 'resend codes' menu and advanced, pick any code and get the reciever to do wat is asked.
When I use the vol up, vol down and mute, because I have the Audio pipe set from the PC to the reciever and the audio set to digital out (pass through) I thought LMCE would control my reciever sound but I cannot see any commands being sent.
I am wrong to think this? I there something I need to do to control the reciever vol with the Win MCE remote?

weegreame, Give LMCE a try, I started on Win MCE and then moved on to LMCE because of the vast amount of extra things it can do over Win MCE. I just need to upgrade my wife now because she firstly prefers the look of Win MCE (no taste!) and secondly feels like a widow because I am forever adding extra things to it - Media Directors, PDA orbiters, remotes and RF mice, control of my reciever and TV, VOIP, security cameras, X10 lighting - pleasure land for the tinkerer!! Seriously though, the basic system can be up and running very quickly especially, like Thom says, if you stick to recommended hardware. I just used old stuff I had knocking around and then tinkered with it!! Techstyle

Good question,
Skype seems to work - I can make the test call
I can access the ADSL modem/router that is the internet gateway and log into it
I cannot access the internet using MS internet explorer, I just downloaded Monzilla and that also cannot access the internet.
I do not get any response when pinping google.com
this laptop was tried unsuccessfully as a MD. Looking at the IP address 192.168.80.5, shouldn't the IP address be higher than this for a non LMCE device?
my settings say 192.168.80.2 - 80.128 for pluto devices. 80.129 - 80.254 for anonymous devices
