Users / Re: Android Orbiter

Hey I haven't posted for a while here but wanted to share some info on Android Dev. I noticed a few posts that were a little off about the DEV. First is that you don't need the hardware.  Google makes an awesome emulator that works very well. Also use Eclipse for development.  The Android SDK gives you all you need plus the emulator and wizards.  And  its OpenSource.

I know its not an orbiter but someone does have a free app that is a mythtv remote.

They would probably struggle at best.   Check out this link though. http://davelargo.blogspot.com/ It is a work blog. largodave is using the hp5725 with a pci vid card  running compiz 3D.   As I remember they are using XDMCP.

 linuxmce clients are actually fatclients.

Too much pizza.

** This is not the board you posted but a low power ITX with the same chipset.  ****

I'm using the 945gc chipset for an MD and it is running with no problems.  RGB, 720p,  connected to a visio 32" LCD 720 native res.

Its the Shuttle KPC  for $99.   running a celeron 430.   2 GIG ram.

mythtv is about 75% cpu load
DVD(mpeg2) is about 8% cpu load
xvid and 264 coded video runs around 25% cpu load

** Only been testing for a few days.

It is starting to look like a problem with amd64.   I am running i386 arch with no problem.  Just tested with my new RC1 MD using the shuttle kpc celeron 430.  Runs great.  I reviewed a few transcoded dvds and noticed I was preferring the xvids more often than the 264.

I have DVD video I transcoded to x.264 and it plays well.  As I remember it was using less cpu time than xvid files.   I was using 710b4 when I verified it worked on mine. Just upgraded to RC1 and have not tried it, yet.

I have not had a chance, or I should say a file available, to test HD quality h.264 video.  I'm sure it would increase the cpu load.

Users / Re: Anyware GP-IR01BK will it work?
« on: April 30, 2008, 02:34:06 am »
I am using the Anyware GP-IR02BK as we speak.  IR02 works well, I like it very much.  You might have to add it as a mceusb2 remote device.  I just  added it and it worked after a reboot or two.  I believe it is the same except IR02 is a two channel remote.

Info on another cheap anywhere remote on the following site:

This is just a re-labeled version of the Topseed eHome remote. It works the standard lirc_mceusb2 driver. This remote is NOT able to learn the on/off/volume buttons, sadly. But what do you expect for $25.

One annoying minus, however - I had to take the values from "lsusb" and put them in the lirc_mceusb2 driver because this remote is newer than even the latest LIRC driver. Look for the existing Topseed entry, and copy it - changing the "0001" to "0008". If you have any questions please feel free to contact me, mark@knm.org

I should move the rating down to 4 from 5 since it has a @#%^#@%$ Windows logo on it. :)

The Anywhere remotes seem to show up with the same device id.
My lsusb: Bus 003 Device 002: ID 1784:0008

I just ordered the the IR01 yesterday for a MD I am building. It was cheaper than the IR02 and hopefully it will work just as good.

Users / deleted /opt and fonts seem to have been degraded.
« on: April 18, 2008, 04:18:13 am »

I was cleaning up a mounted drive to use for storage and deleted the /opt directory by mistake.   Does /opt have anything in it?  It does not seem like anything happened, except I do notice that some fonts on my screen are not readable now.  Not for sure if the font issue  is related or not.   My debian install and another ubuntu install both don't use /opt so I am hoping no damage has been done.
