31  LinuxMCE / Users / Re: New 810 Install Hardware Advice please :) on: April 21, 2009, 07:49:17 pm
Thanks everyone for the great information. I am thinking about EEEbox for my MD. M2N-SLI-Deluxe is what I have been using for my core already and has been great. My plan is to find a case that will hold up to 12 Sata drives (like the Fiire Engine) and place it in a closet. No luck finidng the case yet, if anyone has any info on where I can get a case like the fiire one that would be great. I have already installed Amplifiers for my Cable signal and will be able to split it up to 8 times. I was planning on 2 to start and up to 4 in the future.

Thanks again still in the palnning stage of what hardware. Want to do this right the first time Smiley
32  LinuxMCE / Users / New 810 Install Hardware Advice please :) on: April 21, 2009, 03:34:57 am
Hello everyone. I am ready to start buying my hardware and load up 810. I would like some advice on the hardware for the house. I am going to start with Core and 1 MD. This will grow into about 4 MD's, and various other equipment. This is the first stage and this will be Media only. Phase 2 will be Phone and Automation and then phase 3 will be Security. I have been using 710 for about a year and love it. I have been working in the IT field for many years and can build my own or buy a set up. I have Cat 6 run in my house and have several Gig switches. Thanks in advance for any help.

Core: I want as many SATA drives internally as possible. I would like to have several internal HDTV cards, 2 Gig NIC cards onboard, Don’t care about video this will be a Core only with no monitor attached in a closet. Case doesn’t have to look good or be fancy.

MD: HDMI (would be nice but not necessary), Small, Quiet. Can be diskless, DVD preferred.

I just happen to come accross the website over a year ago. I was looking to rip movies and play them accross my Netgear EVA8000 and found kaleidoscope liked the concept but was to much for me. I search some  more and ended up here and I don't plan on leaving. Thanks for a great experience.

Looking for a Sys Board for MD. I bought A SI K9N2GM-Fih AM2+/AM2 NVIDIA GeForce 8200 Micro ATX AMD Motherboard for my MD. I pick it off the WIKI under Newbie pack and thought it would work. Their is a lot of work to get this to work. I hear this board works good under 810, I am looking forward to 810 and using this board. I would like a Sys board that come out of box able to be used as an MD. I have an AM2 proccessor and DDR2 Memory, and sata Drive. Any suggestions would be great. Thanks Eveyone.

Merry Christmas to everyone.
44  LinuxMCE / Installation issues / Re: Netgear EVA8000 - has anyone played around with this on: March 24, 2008, 08:23:11 am
I have an EVA8000 myself before I found LinuxMCE. They work ok if you just want to have shares on your network and able to access them. I would suggest Barebones or another MD before buying these to use with LinuxMCE you won't get most the functions out of the EVA8000.

Just my thoughts
45  LinuxMCE / Installation issues / Re: Blank Screen on Install DVD on: March 23, 2008, 08:21:30 pm
I seem to have gotten a little further. I downloaded the I386 DVD and I have installed linuxMCE. When it restarts it goes to a blank screen. I did read the sticky about this but I am still not able to get anything. I can switch to another tty and log in. I have replaced the xorg.conf file. Still not working. Any help would be great.
