Hi forum,

Problem:
PXE MD booting and setting up allright.
In the process of adjusting Myth frontend, the process froze.
Upon trying to choose TV via media, got Live TV from the core instead of form the MD.

Rebooted MD
Boot process will fail with:

Code: [Select]
gateway = 192.168.80.1
PXELinux 3.36 Debian-2007-08-30

Undi Data Segment at: 000968B0
Undi Data Segment size 0000
Undi Data Segment at 0009CC20
Undi Data Segment size 0000

PXE Entry found (we hope) at 9CC2:0106

My ip address seems to be  C0A85017 192.168.80.23
ip=192.168.80.23:192.168.80.1:192.168.80.1:255.255.255.0

TFTP Prefix: /tftpboot/

Trying to Load PXELinux.cfg/01-00-12-3f-34-49-d3

Now each time I try to reboot the MD it hangs here...
This has happened 2 times now..

What can I do to correct this?

Thank you!

Hi forum,

I am having following issue:
Core/hybrid on xeon 2.84Ghz
Media director booting via PXE P4

A while ago the media director wouldn't boot anymore. At first I thought my NIC had died. After some testing I found this wasn't true.
As a quick remedy I chose to delete the MD from pluto webadmin, and reinitiate it.
So far so good.

Now the problem:
Eversince during playback of a recorded film, the image slows down, comes to a halt, then as if in slowmotion moves forward (no sound anymore) to slowly speed up again till normal speed.
I've had a look at top on both the core and the hybrid: CPU is never higher than 25% on either.

Apart from the reinstall, nothing has changed on the network.

What can I do to remedy this very disturbing situation?
Change xine priority? But then why was this no problem before?

Thanks for your help!!

Users / reregistering device - in Pluto devices IP range - HOWTO?
« on: May 24, 2008, 09:00:21 pm »
Hi everyone,

Doing some tests in order to get VOIP working, I connected a SNOM 370 to my network.
This SNOM phone registered with DCEROUTER on an IP# that is outside the Pluto devices range that was set up in network settings.

(I have 192.168.80.0 - 19 for server stuff;
192.168.80.20 - 128 for Pluto Devices;
192.168.80.129 - 200 for non Pluto Devices)

In fact the phone got 192.168.80.189.
Now I would like to reregister this phone as a nex device but within the Pluto Devices range.
How do I go about to free / delete the actual link between its MAC and this IP#??

I've been looking at /etc/dhcp3/dhcpd.conf but can't seem to find the phone's IP#...

Thanks a lot!!

Users / EUROPE - RS232 ~ USB - HOWTO?
« on: May 22, 2008, 05:00:46 pm »
Hi forum,

Trying to find out more about controlling remotely via RS232.
My quest started with a search for what LCD to buy that will offer best price / quality value to go with LMCE.

I found that in Europe more than often RS232 is lacking. The Sharp Aquos series is available and they have it.
I also found that Sony BRAVIA for the US market have it (XBR extension in type e.g. KDL-46w3000 XBR4)
In my country (Belgium) it's simply not available... they have the same type but without XBR and without RS232...
I also got in touch with Philips as they do sell some fine quality LCD's.
Same issue: has been available on past models but has been replaced by the faster type USB... so tech support wrote me...

I also (don't remember where exactly) that in fact our european SCART connection is a bundling of sound and image (S-Video (?)) together.

Now I would really really badly want to find out what I can do with all this?
- Which part of LMCE does the RS232 communication? Is this lirc? Or?? Are there any pointers to more detailed information about this subject? Is USB indeed possibly a 'newer' alternative?

Where to find out more about 'possible codes'? I'm thinking about the codes for the Sharp Aquous series but also about receivers from MARANTZ and DENON.

Many thanks for your input!!
And thanks a lot for a really beautifull product!!

Users / Some questions - autoboot PXE - HOWTO?
« on: May 11, 2008, 10:15:11 am »
Hi forum,

Done a quick search, perhaps this has already been answered elsewhere, if so, please apologize and just point me there.

We have one core/hybrid and one PXE media director in the house.
The media director has its own Hauppauge PVR-150 card.
Normally the PXE media director is only booted when watching.

I have experienced that from time to time this PXE will have auto-booted for unclear reasons. I guess, most of the time it has auto-booted because the core/hybrid rebooted due to me fumbling at the installation. Usually I only find out later, and wonder why, without being able to directly link it to some previous action.

Question:
Most of the time I use http://dcerouter/mythweb to schedule recordings.
Suppose you want to simultaneously record two shows (after all you have 2 PVR cards in the house), then myth comes up with a conflict...
Is it now possible to have myth take into account the presence of the media director and auto-boot the PXE media director in time to record the second show??

Question 2:
Autoflagging commercials;
I haven't quite found how to skip the commercials.
During programming I check the comm flag.
I guess I need to give some command to have myth skip or autoskip the comm flags?
But what precisely?

Thanks a ton for your advice!!

Users / Switching from UI1 / UI2 / UI3 - without AVwizard - HOWTO?
« on: April 27, 2008, 11:37:25 pm »
Hi forum,

One way or the other it is tremendously difficult to have the AVwizard on screen on my system.
Until now I have really not been able to pinpoint a constant behaviour to make the AVwizard appear.

Apart from that my hybrid / core works very good.

What is the way, where can I change the setting from UI3 back to UI2 or UI1 in the config files?
I want to avoid using the AVwizard on this machine at all cost.

Thanks for your input!

Installation issues / Get HVR-1110 going - HOWTO?
« on: April 16, 2008, 12:42:17 am »
Hi forum,

As per this post
http://forum.linuxmce.org/index.php?topic=2928.0
, I have tried getting my HVR-1100 going.

Running DVD install beta4.
One core/hybrid
One P4 media director booting off PXE - containing PVR-150

It is on the core that I have added the HVR-1100.

In Myth Backend the card is recognised.
In dmesg I find this:
Code: [Select]
[   62.747611] DVB: registering new adapter (saa7133[0]).
[   62.747680] DVB: registering frontend 0 (Philips TDA10046H DVB-T)...

When configuring Myth I can have it scan for channels (at least I think it is not the card on the media director that's scanning..) Myth is adding channels....

Every time I try to choose Watch TV, X blanks out and freezes, keyboard and screen.
The core keeps running, I can ssh into it.

When I try to follow the post and apt-get install mercurial, this is running ok.
After cd-ing into v4l-dvb, and issuing make I get following error:
Code: [Select]
linuxmce@dcerouter:~/v4l-dvb$ make

Users / List DHCP connections - HOWTO?
« on: April 13, 2008, 12:58:48 pm »
Hi forum,

Is there any way to view / list what dhcp addresses are issued by LMCE's dhcp server?
This may be handy if you want to connect to a headless box but don't know the IP address.

Thank you,

Erwin

Users / MythTV - image is shaky - change FPS rate?
« on: April 06, 2008, 11:19:02 am »
Hi forum,

Just managed to get MythTV to show something on my screen.
Let me explain a bit:

- DVD setup beta4
- One Core/Hybrid - WITHOUT TV CARD
- One MD - WITH PVR-150 and M$ MCE remote control

I had quite some fumbling to do before I managed to get TV image on my screen, but that is possibly due to my not knowing anything at all about MythTV!!

As there is no known provider available for my region (Belgium) I copied and grabbed an example off a website to provide for Belgium.
This worked allright, but, during my fumbling I created several "sources" in attempting to get TV going.
Also I chose, at a certain point, to have MythTV scan for channels.

Result is that I have a completely garbled channel information, containing channels 3 times, and also there are plenty of empty places...

1. What is the best way to clean this manually and in the mean time get a better understanding of MythTV? (I tried to record, but it doesn't seem to work etc.) Can this be done here: http://192.168.80.1/mythweb/settings/channels? Or is it better to use the channel editor in MythTV?
2. How can I control channel chosing with the M$ MCE remote? It does react to some buttons, but using channel + / - doesn't seem to work as expected...
3. Is there some place to manage the remote's functions and buttons for MythTV?
4. TV image is shaky, it seems like frames are missing? What are the recommendd settings here?

Thanks a ton for your precious advice! ;)

Users / Orbiter - navigate to subdir - HOWTO?
« on: April 06, 2008, 10:47:53 am »
Hi forum,

On multiple harddisks I store DVD information in its own /rootdir/movie_#1dir/ ...
/rootdir/movie_#XXdir/
I haven't found yet how I can navigate (via orbiter) to these subdirs...
What is the secret here?

Obviously I don't wan't to stuff all DVD info just plain into /rootdir won't I? ???

Is it perhaps necessary to tell LMCE through webadmin to add these subdirs as a location or?

Thanks for helping out!

Users / LCD flat panel - 100 Hz - worth while?
« on: April 04, 2008, 11:04:36 am »
Hi forum,

Preparing to buy a LCD flatscreen, not sure yet between 42" and 46" probably 46".
Apparently 100 Hz technique has also entered the LCD world.

Can anybody tell me if this  technique is worth its money?  ???
Comparing to 'classical' TV sets, the 100 Hz produced a 'less flickery' image, as the flickering became invisible to the human eye.
I cannot imagine the benefit would be the same to LCD. After all I'm using plenty of LCD's connected to PC's around, these don't seem to flicker, and they don't use 100 Hz technique...

Awaiting your comments.

Best regards,  :D

Users / DVD drive noise - recommendations?
« on: March 24, 2008, 04:31:08 pm »
When using common PC as media director or core, the internal DVD drives often are quite noisy compared to a stand alone DVD player.
Are there any recommendations to keep the DVD spinning noise under control? Can it slow down spinning speed and still play allright?

Thanks,

Erwin

Hi folks,

I'd like to switch my Audigy soundcard with a Hercules Fortissimo II. (optical SPdif)
LMCE doesn't seem to do the switch automagically.

Do you have any suggestions as to what I can / have to do to get this right again?

Thanks for your suggestions!

Installation issues / DNS adding hostname - HOWTO?
« on: March 22, 2008, 03:53:30 pm »
Hi,

As cross subnet routing or bridging seems to work, I'd like to get nameresolution working. (these are fixed IP's from a different subnet (192.168.100.0))
How can I add a hostname to LMCE?

Otherwise I'll have to go modify hosts files...

Thanks,

Erwin
