Installation issues / 0810 and Hauppauge HVR-4000
« on: November 15, 2009, 06:27:02 pm »
First off a big thank you and thumbs-up for all the diehards that have made this possible!!

I'm looking for some help to get my Hauppauge HVR-4000 working with MythTV.
I've tried following http://www.linuxtv.org/wiki/index.php/Hauppauge_WinTV-HVR-4000
I believe the firmware is copied to the right location according this wiki page (Firmware v1.20.79.0).

Here's some information:
Mobo Asus m3n78-em
Installed Kubuntu 8.10 from stock 8.10 DVD and ran through LMCE setup via web.
Entered my name (erwin) as first user during install.

Now I know pluto-admin adds users as pluto_erwin, so I have now 2 users.
I've added both to the mythtv group, but keep receiving errors not belonging to the mythtv group when trying to run mythtv-setup.

How can I correct this?
How can I rerun myth-setup and have it recognize the Hauppauge card?
Currently when I try to run myth-setup it complains about "No UPnp backends found"
Also I notice that there is a change after installing the firmware:
- initially mythtv presented it selves using the familiar 'grey' theme
- after the firmware install, myth presents it selves using a 'blue' theme, and the menu is not the same at all...

What am I missing?
Any help much appreciated!

Hi forum,

I would like to start setting up a new LMCE dcerouter (0810), but would also like to keep my existing 0710 box intact (for the time being).

Very likely 2 machines running dhcp server and other dcerouter services will cause problems to each other.
What approach do other users / testers apply in this?

I'd prefer not to go the multiple subnet way. Allthough this 'would' be feasable, sooner or later we'd have to go through changing over to one subnet or the other.

Thanks for your suggestions,

Erwin

Hi forum,

I am currently setting first steps in LMCE's phone capability part.
Have a couple of trunks setup and functioning.

However, when dialing out, my DID / CID is hidden, how, where do I set it to be visible?
(I already have it in SIP Trunk -> Outbound Caller ID: 323xxxyyzz)

Thanks a lot!

Hi everyone,

After a lot of searching I'll just post the question:
Quite some receivers and other electronic apparatus have some sort of IR connexion jack at the back. Often they even have input and output. Specifically Onkyo have what they call RI (Remote Interactive) - it also appears that this standard has been extended to cover HDMI connexions as well. Apparently this type of "connexion" seems to support two way communication to some extent.

My question:
Can anyone confirm it would be possible to connect a IT blaster exit with forementioned IR input jack (output (?)) and directly control such component, instead of sticking a IR blaster on the IR-eye?
I also wonder if any software exists (linux or win) that would be able to visualize the command sequences travelling over the cable connexion?

If yes, I feel this may greatly improve control of such a component with LMCE  ;).

Thanks for your input,

Erwin

Hi folks,

Trying to set up a Shuttle X27D as a diskless MD.
The core is running 0710, and has this one as a second NIC, working out of the box
Code: [Select]
03:00.0 Ethernet controller: Realtek Semiconductor Co., Ltd. RTL8111/8168B PCI Express Gigabit Ethernet controller (rev 01)
Subsystem: Realtek Semiconductor Co., Ltd. RTL8111/8168B PCI Express Gigabit Ethernet controller
Flags: bus master, fast devsel, latency 0, IRQ 21
        I/O ports at e800
        Memory at febff000 (64-bit, non-prefetchable)
        Expansion ROM at febc0000 [disabled]
        Capabilities: <access denied>

When I try to PXE boot my MD, it boots off the core allright, up to a point where it says to first see the NIC as a RTL8168b/8111b, and later on drops the link as r8169....
See picture attached.

During boot of the MD it clearly shows 8111B/8111C

I've also booted the MD from Kubuntu 0710 live cd.
Strange enough the system recognizes the NIC, but fails to configure with dhcp. Whenever I try to manually set the IP, mask and gateway the system responds with something like wrong gateway...
It defaults back to 192.169....

I've also tried adding a USB NIC (Linksys 200M), this gets recognised and receives IP from dhcp without any problem at all, unfortunately it doesn't seem to support PXE booting... (tested with Kubuntu 710 live cd)

I found the wiki article on how to add support for unrecognized NIC, but am not sure how to proceed...

In case I would temporarily add an hd to the MD, is there any way to install LinuxMCE from DVD, disable the core and have it act as an MD only - and then make an image or move the install to the core...???

Any help appreciated!

Hi forum,

Probably this has been asked before, but I can't seem to find a pointer to a precise answer, so I ask again:

LMCE detected a new plug and play device.
You choose: No, ignore this time

What is the procedure to add this device in a later stadium?
I'v checked pluto-admin > advanced > Configuration > Unknown devices and it is not there.

Thanks for your input!

Installation issues / reconfigure NIC numbering and order - HOWTO?
« on: March 05, 2009, 10:05:33 pm »
Hi forum,

Situation is as follows:
Asus M3N78-EM mobo
LMCE 7.10rc2 DVD i386 install

As onboard nic is not recognized, and my Sitecom usb LN030 isn't recognized either I added a stock PCI NIC to get through installation time.
Upgraded kernel following the wiki howto.
So far, so good.

Onboard NIC is working allright.

After modifying the source driver mcs7830.c as follows:
Code: [Select]
#define MCS7830_VENDOR_ID 0x9710
#define MCS7830_PRODUCT_ID 0x7830
next 'make modules' and copying mcs7830.ko to /lib/modules/2.6.25.5/kernel/drivers/net/usb/
my usbnet NIC also worked :-)

(PS: I' can not confirm this works before or after kernelupgrade. Is this worthwile to request a change, as 8.10 resolves these issues?)

Problem / Question:

Through this sequence my NIC's are numbered eth2 and eth3, consequently LMCE does not startup without errors as eth0 and eth1 don't exist...

How do I manage to get my NIC's renumbered?
Does this involve editing /etc/network/interfaces? If yes, how do I do this, as eth0 and eth1 seem like disabled....

syslog shows:

Installation issues / M3N78-EM new-installer-alpha-latest - UPDATE
« on: February 22, 2009, 12:26:52 am »
Hi everyone,

First of all a great thank you to each of you who make this possible and for all the hard work in getting to 8.10!!
I'm running a test install on an Asus M3N78-EM.
First installed Kubuntu 8.10 and installed all upgrades automagically.
Next installed the latest nvida stock driver (180.29)
Running: Linux dcerouter 2.6.27-7-generic #1 SMP Tue Nov 4 19:33:20 UTC 2008 i686 GNU/Linux

Next followed these instructions: http://wiki.linuxmce.org/index.php/LinuxMCE-0810_alpha2
However running the 3 commands I run into problems with
sudo ./mce-install.sh
It produced following error:

Hi forum,

Running a new test-system;
mobo = Gigabyte GA-MA78GPM-DS2H
LinuxMCE DVD Build 2
DVB-C = SATELCO EasyWatch PCI DVB-C HDTV

FYI, the DVB-C card got recognized by LMCE, and registered allright, it can be used in MythTV, but it does not show up in Pluto...
After installing dvb-utils and some fiddling with with a basic scan file I have TV generally working.

At the moment using UI1 to keep things as simple as possible, and get main functionality going first.
Now what is strange, and new to me, is that the media > video button on the orbiter does not react...

At first I thought the hybrid/core was still busy managing external share data.
I had no external media visible.
After adjusting user data and password, I now have audio visible (the public share uses LMCE folder layout)
Strange enough, video will not respond....

If I pop in a DVD in the DVD-drive video starts playing allright...

Also using a remote XP-Orbiter acts the same - no media video button reaction either...

What can I do to check on this?
Can I check some log file? Or even 'tail' a command log with ssh?

Thanks a lot for your suggestions.

Installation issues / pipe audo to receiver - HOWTO? Location of templates?
« on: December 31, 2008, 11:01:33 am »
Okay, let's try to drill this down to basics:

Suppose you add a IR controled receiver to your system.
First, your only purpose is to
- have it switch on/off
- select the correct input (VCR-1)
- control volume up/down
- perhaps control dolby surround settings

Where to begin?
- suppose there is no existing device template
- will you add a child device underneath the IR Transmitter?
- or will you create a child device underneath the media director where the receiver is located and make some connection somehow with the IR Transmitter?

Next:
- Do you have to manually configure or add a scenario that adds the receiver control actions to the applications say watch TV or watch Video?
- are these the Media Scenarios like Video:Entertainment Area,

Can someone point out where the default device templates live? Or are they created programmatic when the need arises?

Thanks for your input!
And a happy New Year!!

        Hi forum,

This is a though one (at least for me...) so please bear with me... :-)
Where am I:

I have core/hybrid with SPDIF from audio outlet connected to my AV/Receiver on VCR-1 input.
Up to now, I'v just been controlling sound directly on the receiver.

Next step is to control the receiver via IR. (Onkyo Integra TX-DS939 old but good :-) )

What I have:
Core/Hybrid
  • on board (DIGN 5 case) IrTrans IRT-USB Transm/Receive (also with VFD but no light from LED's up to now..)
I guess this device also has a transmitter, but as it came undocumented, nothing is connected to it yet. (I have an idea, but prefer to solve other stuff before...)
This device pick's up commands allright from universal M$ XP MCE IR remote...
  • usb connected IR recognized as mce usb2 with child LIRC Embedded Transmit
This one has a IR transmitter connected via mini-jack and the transmitting LED sticks on to the Onkyo receiver's IR eye
This LIRC device receives the same commands from the M$ XP MCE IR remote
[/li]
There is also a Gyration GYR3101 - This one works partly - It can be used as pointer/mouse and some buttons work, but not all
I have been working with Xmodmap to add some more buttons - allthough I think this should not be done with Xmodmap - Please your advice on this theme?
[/li]
What do I have working with the Onkyo receiver:
  • I have somehow succeeded to connect the Onkyo with the LIRC unit (at first it auto connected to IRTrans but this could not transmit further..
I have managed to enter and test some IR codes via Pluto admin - it seems that Pronto 0162 works for a lot.
I also found a website where I found these hex codes - I did the test and pasted them in - and some of them do work - so I feel I'm on the right track.
During testing via Pluto I can control the receiver - so I can check input naming etc.
  • The receiver is hierarchically connected as a child to the LIRC unit - Is this correct? Please comment?
But how do I make LMCE switch to the VCR-1 input when it plays TV or DVD or ...?
I have been trying to work with the pipes on the OnScreen Orbiter Device Info page.
I also noticed that all sources such as Phone, Xine Player, MythTV Player and MPlayer are connected as child to the OnScreen Orbiter -
I've tried to adjust their Device Pipes Used but...
Looking forward to your help!!

PS. I have been browsing the wiki but have not found much helpful - so I'm trying to write some instructions to make this stuff more easy...

Hi forum,

First of all Happy Christmas to all LinuxMCE- and forum users!!
Doing some testing to get improved displayspeed while lowering CPU activity for HD content, I installed the stock nVidia 180.18 driver (supports vdpau, as it seems).

As my core does not have an onboard speaker, it is impossible to hear beeps of any kind during boot procedure.
Since the core has a MSI nVidia 9400GT with hdmi on board, I have no way (until now) to enter the AVWizard.
Did try to bring the wizard up from cli, only to loose it to some X console I could not see or connect to, unfortunately...

Now my question:
The system is running UI I (basic)
How can I manually configure it to use UI II (OpenGL)?

It seems that looking at the pluto admin page, the options "Use alpha blended UI" and "Use OpenGL effects" are greyed out, so I cannot enable any of these....

Could it be that Open GL is not properly working or configured?

Thanks for your suggestions!!

Users / Lost capture card (Hauppauge) - HOWTO get back?
« on: June 12, 2008, 09:14:14 pm »
Hi forum,

Using hybrid/core and mediadirector on LMCE 710b4 with 2 PVR-150's, one in each machine.
Wanting to do some tests, I installed Mythbuntu on a entirely different machine in my network.
One way or the other the install seems to have connected to Myth on DCEROUTER, although I did not supply username nor password.

Afterwards, my hybrid/core and mediadirector seem to have lost their capture card!!
I tried some fumbling, checked mythbackend setup and the card is listed there (on the hybrid/core), but no tuners are present. When I try to add one, selecting the properly identified PVR-150, nothing gets registered... so I am unable to select a card....

I've tried deleting the card from DCEROUTER web interface, rebooting hoping it would re-register, but to no avail...

Any tips on rescuing my capture cards greatly appreciated!!
Also, where do the card config settings hide out?

Thanks a lot!

Users / remote diskspace / NAS - HOWTO?
« on: June 05, 2008, 10:57:27 pm »
Hi forum,

I'm running out of diskspace.
As my system is still in a 'experimental' stadium, I'm looking at:

- How to let LMCE make use of external diskspace (FreeNAS or other)
-> I have a FreeNAS machine in my network with plenty of space, it has been discovered multiple times (I think I remedied that by adding MAC address to the device in DCEROUTER admin page)
-> This FreeNAS device has both NFS and SMB share, I've added the SMB as per the wiki, and added the NFS share analogous

Problem / Question?
LMCE still reports it's running out of diskspace.
When I SSH into LMCE and do df -h, the remote filesystems are not reported...??

- How can I move some recordings to an external share without disturbing the mythtv database??

Thanks for helping out!!

Users / Free up diskspace - HOWTO?
« on: May 27, 2008, 09:18:02 am »
Hi forum,

I seem to have a problem here:
Running 7.10b4 with a single NIC.
Already previously experienced weird things with network shares. (It would be a good thing to have a tab with services in Pluto admin to be able to switch some of these functions on / off)
This shows as I have either shares unreacheable or I have e.g. videos turn up twice and more.
I think these are mainly due to my changes in my network, so I don't really blame LMCE.

Today however I start running out of diskspace.
As everything is in a database, I don't want to start just deleting stuff.
In /var/log/mythtv/mythbackend.log I get these:
Code: [Select]

Just yesterday I tried to delete quite some stuff via mythweb...

Today it seems that nothing gets deleted...
What can I do?
Is there any way to rebuild or check the database? I have no qlue...

Thanks for your advice!!
