Installation issues / Re: DHCP - combine with other DHCP - HOWTO?
« on: May 12, 2008, 12:59:06 pm »
am I missing something here?
if you want to use another gateway why not just turn OFF DHCP on the box you want to use a different gateway on (presumably a non pluto device)
and talk directly to your router?
any device that is using or being used by Lmce can use Lmce as a gateway.
if I understand the situation correctly..
we have a small dedicated development team that are up to their eyes in real issues and improvements
the networking problems are well down the list because the solutions for everyday use are well known and easily implemented

hi again!
well... I think they MIGHT be taking the board back :)
so you never know :)
if I get it replaced I will let you know how things work out!
though I will probably end up using something else as a core now (inpatient as I am )
and this will end up a MD :)
I will let you know how things turn out!
thanks Jamie!
have a great weekend!

hi there jamieaus!
thanks!
I think there is a hardware issue with the LAN on this board (have not had it work proper;y on any OS yet :(  )
but any pointers you could give me over sound would be fantastic :)
have a great weekend!

. Unfortunately, CFL bulbs come with neither emission spectra nor operating frequency on the box. So you need to experiment and demote the failures to utility shed lighting.
ha ha! I have a few old plasma TV's I could use to heat the same shed for the same reason lol!
it might be an idea if any of us figure out what works for them to create a list/discussion?
oh well finishing off at work now :)
time to see if I can get any propper sound out of Sarah lol!
thanks for the info danielk!
have a great weekend :)

hi there Justin!
yes line of sight is a big no-no!
it is a lot better when they can't see each other directly :)
I think I am going to experiment to see what I can use either at the reciever end or by way of some sort of shade, as an optical filter :)
I am sure if there is IR comming from the CFL it isn't usefull!
and if it is just the IR reciever is seeing the some other part of the light spectrun from the CFL then as the other part of the light spectrum is not needed for correct operation of the IR reciever.. it should be mechanicaly filterable :)

hi there Zaerc :)
TBH I have only ever used the X64 DVD to install on this box.
is that not the best approach in this case?
thanks for your help!

hi there :)
thanks for the info!
that is going to require a LOT of re-wiring to implement!
I do not have a neutral lead in ANY of my switches lol!
(I really don't like CFLs either ??? )
and given that the USBUIRT will not work in the same room as one :)
I see some difficult decisions ahead!
(and maybe a pile of X!) stuff going on Ebay lol!)
still..... lets try and get the basics working first... some sound would be nice lol!

anyone else having a problem with low energy lights and their USBUIRT?
if the unit gets even a sniff of the light from one of those low energy lamps it just goes crazy!!!
BTW what are we all going to do with our X10 dimmers and socket rockets when they outlaw incandescent lamps??
apparently the EU are discussing their removal from sale as I write this :o

Installation issues / asus m2n-mx se plus no sound no lan :(
« on: May 03, 2008, 02:02:25 am »
what feels like ages ago I posted this :)

http://forum.linuxmce.org/index.php?topic=4613.0

I bought a m2npv-vm  to use as my core/hybrid.. it is still back at the manufacturers awaiting replacement after it boiled my processor (long story)
anyhow things have moved on and I need to use the m2n-mx se as the core but I need the slots so I need the onboard LAN and sound working!
neither of them seem to be detected :(
anyone tell me where to start?
according to what I have read in the Ubuntu forums this board should work "out of the box" with Gutsy??
thanks!!

Users / Re: Best Mini-ITX board for Linux MCE
« on: May 02, 2008, 05:31:37 pm »
there seem to be a reasonable selection of ITX boards that work fine as media directors..
the core however (from what I have seen) should be something more substantial :)
especially runnung multiple 720p streams!
also you will want to have quite a lot of storage at the core!
I see Brazil is quite strange about its TV standards as you say :)
maybe satellite capture may be easier ?
but anyway..
the cor..
make it as powerful and big as is reasonable :)
if you don't you (like me) will just end up building another core when you run out of slots / drive bays :)

hi there!
Linux MCE is not really designed as a "one box solution" and if all you want is a media center in a single machine... there are simpler projects you could use :)
also you haven't really indicated what you want to do exactly so it is difficult to quantify your needs (SD HD etc)
hope this helps a little!!

Installation issues / Re: Configure mythtv frontend on MD
« on: April 30, 2008, 11:13:11 pm »
hi there :)
in my experience I would always build as a core/hybrid unless you know exactly what you are doing!
Sarah (like most women I have met) likes things "her way" and you would not want to bring on the wrath of Sarah  ;D
seriously if you are not a "guru" start off taking the default configurations.. it will save you from a world of pain :)

Installation issues / Re: LinuxMCE outside USA
« on: April 30, 2008, 04:38:14 pm »
Anyone have anyt pointers regarding the use of LMCE with DVB (-T) or more specifically the UK Freeview service?  Whenever I have tried Windows-based MCE this has ended in tears...

both Myth and VDR work on freeview here in the UK :)
I have had some problems setting up the epg in myth (xml grabber) but using just iet seems to be fine :)
VDR appears to be less well intergrated at the moment..
but aparently this is being worked on as we speak :)
if you decide to use VDR check out the wiki first as scanning for channels is not as streight forward as you may imagine :)
