« on: January 12, 2009, 11:46:59 pm »
Hi Krys,
iirc the check box kept ticking itself,  I do recall a number of hard  boots, of core tho' not md,
and I also seem to remember that I'd entered 8N1 incorrectly in  device data in dev template at some point , but can't for life of me remember if that's what the cure /reason was.
Also, I had probs with my setup at that time, with  some changes apparently not "sticking" unless I shut down and rested the core for 20 mins or so, before rebooting, got to be worth a try,( I really must start taking notes, brain fried )

regards,
Ian

Hi Krys,
you've probably seen it allready but in wizard -devices-gsd  there's a check box  "disable device",make sure it's unchecked  and reboot  (poss reload router).......similar thing sent me bald    :D

Andrew,
all this sounds amazing, and tbh I'm not fully taking it in,  NO MD's   ??
if I can 'push' a little,
will this be part of 0810? i.e not only Dianemo systems,  (get back to work, devs  ;D ),

what hardware/capture cards are required?

many thanks,(we are not worthy  ;D )

regards,
Ian

Users / Re: Stupid IR blaster question
« on: January 11, 2009, 07:10:14 pm »
andy

have only had a quick look  at IRTrans webpage, but I got the impression it was "self contained"  ie irtrans learned and stored codes ,then  supplied as required,

from wiki

"IR Trans transforms your PC into a programmable remote control: It learns the codes of your remote control, stores them in a database and sends them controlled by your applications."

so I thought it would all be contained in IRTrans template,BUT

Thinking a bit more (still under influence of pain killers),
it would seem,
and is case with USB_UIRT ,that codes should be learned from within ,(say), TV template...AV properties....
and (device) 'interface'   would pass them along....this assumes that, like usb_uirt, the interface/transceiever  has a template auoto detected. If not, I know (cos i tried it earlier)that there is a device template in the database allready.........wizard .....devices.. interfaces ... add device,
for the IRTrans,

On subject of learning commands, please use new batterries and have remote no further than 2" /40mm
.......from experience with USB_UIRT  learning can otherwise be a bit flaky

Help me choose suggests there are 27 codesets for Samsung TVs. Sounds hopeful. Then it presents me with a wierd screen that talks about selecting a codeset and pressing 'V' or 'T'. Again, looks reasonable, but there is just a list of commands link this...

Infrared Group Toggle Power On Off 1 Vol up Vol down

these are "possibles"... click to try.......i seem to remember  i tried  power/input, got a match , chose that codeset , then went in and learned once my usbuirt arrived.

TBH I get the feeling that we're both missing some basic logic and you need to wait for a guru such as Tschack (to find the 25th hour in the day, and) to point in right direction    ;D

for goodness sake don't give up,(even to get away from my posts) the system is so all encompassing
I'm sure there is a simple answer (forum lists IRTRANS as far back as 2005 so someone must have come across it),

best regards ,
Ian

Users / ttyUSB / serial hack
« on: January 11, 2009, 03:53:10 pm »
Hi all,
after dicking around trying to establish which usb port a device used (as in ttyUSB rather than pci0000/00:000:10:2+1 for example), to try and create  a
template,I've managed to screw something up.
I followed  wiki.linuxmce.com/index.php/Serial_Hack, and get the following,

linuxmce@dcerouter:~$ tree -fi /dev | grep ttyUSB
/dev/ttyUSB0
/dev/ttyUSB1
linuxmce@dcerouter:~$ tree -fi /dev | grep ttyS
/dev/ttyS0
/dev/ttyS1
/dev/ttyS2
/dev/ttyS3
linuxmce@dcerouter:~$

I actually have 6 usb (4 used) and 1 serial port(unused), so that's obviously problem 1, more important is that now every template shows "no serial port detected"

can anyone tell me /hint
           a-what's happening?
b- how to return to  previous  state?
c- how to find out ttyusb ? used by  a piece of equipment ?

thanks in advance,
Ian

Hi Archangel, & welcome

1- dvd  should be  single layer ..i386, I believe dual l option has hi def vid and other non-essentials
2- use torrent, confirm checksum, and burn on slowest speed, verify data

this should get you going,if you still have probs, re-post with hardware details,

regards,
Ian

Edit  ..too slow again  ;D

Hi Andy,
look in  Computing->Pluto admin->wizard->devices->av equip-> AV properties, should be what you're looking for,
regards,
Ian,

EDIT

sorry andy didn't read your post correctly,
try adding template for irtrans   ...............Computing->Pluto admin->wizard->devices->interfaces....add device.....................not much on wiki, perhaps you could add it?

SORRY for stupid answer ,(but you did say it was a "stupid ir question" ;D

Hi Andy,
LMAO at "plumbing/event handlers"..........exactly what I thought when I first saw GSD on wiki and apparent ease of implementation....
Good luck with the house......different project ...similar heartache ;)

Can I ask why Myth ? just familiarity  ?     I followed  conventional wisdom  that VDR is more suited to DVB,plus the multi recording from different muxes, which myth doesn't appear to implement.

As for developers, as an avid reader of all posts ,it strikes me that ALL of them are very helpfull, cryptic  maybe, ascerbic sometimes ,but not much seems to pass un noticed, so I'd urge you to post if and when you get stuck, just try to avoid the call for popcorn  ;D ;D

As for the extra codes, I'l try these out  and let you know,

regards ,
Ian

EDIT
Andy, codes appear to work ok   BUT output 1 on the dusky is actually "--box 0" in format below, still 1 in short format,
linuxmce@dcerouter:~$ sky-control --controller 0 --box 0 0C03 0C05 0C06
linuxmce@dcerouter:~$ sky-control --controller 0 --box 0 0C7D
linuxmce@dcerouter:~$ sky-control --controller 0 --box 0 0CF5
linuxmce@dcerouter:~$ sky-control --controller 0 --box 0 020C
linuxmce@dcerouter:~$ sky-control --controller 0 --box 0 020C

I've tried all interactive codes and they (sky+ codes only) are ok  ,no idea  how to test in ASCII/ binary as stumbling block  is lack of knowledge on how to  determine which USB port, and how to address it ,
regards,
Ian

Hi Andrew, ajward,

Brilliant news andrew,
                a) does this also imply that sky-plugin will then be integrated into vdr/lmce ? (as opposed to the "liveTV" setup I'm using at present)
                b) will this be in 0810 releases ? (as and when... ;)   )

I'm really looking forward to this,....MANY thanks for your (& your team's ?) efforts.

@ ajward ,

I could use the Linux command line tool, but that only provides channel changing (I'd like to use the LinuxMCE pass-through capabilities to get to the on-demand and programme guide stuff sometimes).

......have you seen this,  /www.dusky-control.com/sky-control-codes.shtml      ,which gives all the extra codes (tho I've only used channel changing thro' cli )
I'm really sorry I can't be of  any real use ,(unless you want "hello world")  on  the programming, but  I'd be very happy  to test (given clear instructions) or possibly type up your notes/docs (from sound files ?)

FWIW it may be more productive to post seperate specific queries,I'm sure you'll get plenty of support , given  your talents and obvious efforts,

best regards,
Ian
