Installation issues / Solved: sharp Aquos seems to destroy 0810
« on: August 02, 2009, 04:43:07 pm »
Hi all,
I've been testing  0810 audio and video on a desktop +crt monitor and have been impressed by speed of  response of  on screen orbiter/system.Thinking I was finally making progress I decided to set up myth, and so moved the hybrid box over to the tv, whereupon the system became unusably slow.,with both ripped and disk media.

The only change I'd made was to connect  Sharp Aquos LC46X20S (to vga input on the same D sub as I'd used with the monitor) , swap pc speakers for Tv audio input, and connect rs232 cable. Sarah picked up  the tv  and I told 'her' to ignore it  as I knew a new template was needed.

After swapping out the tv back to the monitor, the system now responds swiftly again.

Has anyone else experienced this with sharp tv's / have a clue about what's going on / have any suggestions about trouble shooting ?

thanks in advance,
Ian

(many thanks to all involved in the development,)

Hi all,
has anyone any experience with this keyboard ?

- should it work fully out of the box?  (after pairing it with it's dongle), or is further config required.?...

-all the normal keys + mouse and buttons are ok,but only 'stop'& F8  keys appear to work,  any thoughts appreciated.......fubar-ed hardware ?    (more likely) fubar-ed operator?

Thanks in advance,

Hi all,
I've set up  a sipgate voip account thro' wizard in web admin, and checked the settings against the wiki.

Can call out from direct dial, but cannot dial in , or rather there's no indication a call is coming in.
Have opened udp5060-5080 in firewall, enabled  the soft phones in freepbx, without success.

Freepbx is showing following errors

1-COULD NOT RELOAD FOP SERVER

Users / ttyUSB / serial hack
« on: January 11, 2009, 03:53:10 pm »
Hi all,
after dicking around trying to establish which usb port a device used (as in ttyUSB rather than pci0000/00:000:10:2+1 for example), to try and create  a
template,I've managed to screw something up.
I followed  wiki.linuxmce.com/index.php/Serial_Hack, and get the following,

linuxmce@dcerouter:~$ tree -fi /dev | grep ttyUSB
/dev/ttyUSB0
/dev/ttyUSB1
linuxmce@dcerouter:~$ tree -fi /dev | grep ttyS
/dev/ttyS0
/dev/ttyS1
/dev/ttyS2
/dev/ttyS3
linuxmce@dcerouter:~$

I actually have 6 usb (4 used) and 1 serial port(unused), so that's obviously problem 1, more important is that now every template shows "no serial port detected"

can anyone tell me /hint
           a-what's happening?
b- how to return to  previous  state?
c- how to find out ttyusb ? used by  a piece of equipment ?

thanks in advance,
Ian

Users / usb web cam setup
« on: October 16, 2008, 11:20:52 am »
Hi all,
apologies in advance, as I'm sure I've missed a check box somewhere, but I'm b**ered if I can find an  answer on wiki/forums.

Ive setup  a single usb webcam , under motion as detailed in wiki,: have ticked camera in admin >security> view cameras, and  scenario is on  menubar,
BUT i'm only seeing the one frame , generated yesterday..
[for a short while (during a screen freeze on the hybrid) I was getting updated frames on an md.- but that no longer happens.]
I suspect there are some parameters to be set in motion template, but am reluctant to bork things up further.
Any clues, mystic spells, arcane rituals involving  young women, or advice would be  welcome  ;D

TIA
 Ian

Users / Dusky Sky Controller
« on: October 16, 2008, 09:50:41 am »
Hi all,
ref  www.dusky-control.com
I've been playing with this for some time from the cli,and would really like to be able to use it in LMCE,

I know that TotallyMaxed and his team have done some work in this area , so the question is , does anyone have a working template/gsd that I could beg,  borrow, steal, or..... (takes deep breath)   buy ?

Before I get slapped, I know  ideally I should do this myself but having looked into it previously, I 've realised how limited my abilities are !!

Ian

Users / Embedded tuners / off buttons /ui2
« on: October 13, 2008, 04:15:24 pm »
Hi all,
apologies in advance, but I can't get my head around this:

embedded tuners, of reciever  ( AM ota radio  /FM ota radio) ,  and TV  (Live TV ) worked fine: returning to UI,
then  pressing OFF turns  off the amp/TV   ..... leaving me either deaf or blind  ;D

SO :- no big problem,I altered both A/V properties pages  i.e  deleted "off" codes and substituted them : eg: tv,  instead of "off", used  "input 7"   ...  and all works ok .

BUT what's going to happen when I eventually enter  the dark arts  of  scenarios,? - I'm  thinking in terms of "putting the house  to sleep"-
obviously , it aint gonna happen !

can someone please give me a slap and point out  what  must be obvious to everybody except me,

Users / rs232 to TTL (rca ?) conection ?
« on: October 11, 2008, 11:22:33 pm »
Hi all,
        calling any electronics people,

I have a Cambridge Audio 540R v2 which I'm wanting to control via serial port on pc, using LinuxMCE.
Acording to CA's tech support the rs232c port on the receiver is for software updates only (540R v3 does support), and having tried that option (they originally told me it was posible)...Dead end ? ...no ..the receiver has a Custom Install Bus which appears to be a normal rca audio connector.

The manual states............

"The 540R V2.0 features a Control Bus input that allows un-modulated
remote control commands (positive logic, TTL level) to be received
electrically by the unit. These control commands are typically generated
by custom installation (multi-room) systems or remote IR receiver
systems. The Control Bus socket is colour-coded orange.
This unit features 'direct' IR/Control codes as well as toggle codes for
many of their features to simplify programming custom installation
systems. Special direct On/Off commands can be accessed on the
supplied remote control for teaching into C.I. systems as follows:
1. Press and hold the Standby/On button on the remote control. The
remote first generates it's standby (toggle) command. Keep the
button held down, after 12 seconds an AV receiver “On” command
will be generated. If the button is kept held down for a further 12
seconds, an AV receiver “Off” command is generated.
Repeat this procedure with the Mute, Sub On/Off, Stereo Mono and
Tuner AM/FM buttons to send On/Off commands. The Tuner AM/FM
button also provides unique FM and AM commands to allow switching to
a specific band."

and also

CONTOL BUS INPUT

"Opto isolated, TTL positive logic,
Unmodulated"

I've googled like hell all day , and from what I can gather , this should  be possible, but all the references
are either way over my head,/too vague to be of any use/ or are involved with both sending and receiving thro micro controllers/usb

So, my questions,
1) would it really be an rca phono plug?
2)if so would it be possible to directly connect via com port on pc,and if so which pins ?
3) any potential problems?

any help / clues on where to start greatly appreciated,
tia
Ian

ps..please...KISIS...keep it simple, I'M stupid.

Users / Ruby snippets help please
« on: October 06, 2008, 06:06:41 pm »
Hi all,

I'm trying to create a device template for a CambridgeAudio 540R  receiver, with rs232.The tech dept assures me that the protocol is applicable to V2/V3 and 340  variants (mine is v2)

http://www.cambridgeaudio.com/assets/documents/AP227921Azur540RV3SerialControlProtocolV1.pdf

So, I've created the template, included volume and input change commands (just to test for now), updated connection wizard, reloaded router  (at each stage) and  ......nothing  ,   except the receiver is clicking when i hit remote keys.

It's connected via  pl2303 usb/serial converter plus the serial cable I've been successfully using on the TV, and the  usb connection is showing up in the template,  (pci0000:00/0000:00:1a.1+1  )

The examples given  in the manual follow this format:

                              #2,01,02\r

which I've entered into the template as,

                              <$"#2,01,02\r"$>

and , as I said, the only result is a faint clicking when using the remote.ANY help/pointers would be greatly appreciated,

thanks in advance,

Ian

Users / VDR present state?
« on: April 29, 2008, 11:12:56 am »
Hi all,
I'm experiencing some unexpected behaviour in vdr , I'm using ms remote and receiver,
-schedules from orbiter takes me to channels/recordings/setup etc screen ..on 1st use after boot, but on subsequent use defaults to recordings, so can't channell select by remote,
                     -mute flashes  subtitles options
-green displays orbiter,as does start/logo button
                     -yellow displays lighting/volume  "rose" control
                     -blue = nil
-live tv , guide (takes to present channel  listing), recorded tv, all ok
                     -numbers ok

What I'm asking is  1/- is this normal at present , or do I have a problem ? (besides being thick !  )
2/-is there a way to get to the channels "rose" by using remote,or is F6  the only way ?
3/-are the osd's not yet transparent as they are in vanilla VDR?
thanks in advance
Ian
