Users / Re: Playlists
« on: December 09, 2008, 01:59:43 pm »
Is there a way to randomly select a track in a playlist or to have the system shuffle/random a track as part of an event?

I am using a timed event as a wakeup and would like to wake up to something differnt each day. I can create a playlist of all music and load it but how do I get a random track each day.

You can make it play back in Random order after you start it, but I don't think you can achieve what you want to do, since you're starting a playlist as part of an event.

If you were to start the playlist by hand and then wanted it to play back in random order? F7, go to the left most option, up to random (if you're using UI2).

Users / Re: Adding a drive of videos
« on: December 09, 2008, 01:56:50 pm »
Maybe this is a linux question but can I hang that drive of the slave port and have lmce detect it or do I have to add a spare drive and copy these across?

Hang it off the slave port and have lmce detect it.

Let it use the LMCE Directory structure...

And then move all your videos from where they are now into /data/public/videos/

So is the upshot of all this that I need to get 720p working on my TV in order to achieve what I want?

Not exactly. My point was... your computer needs to be configured for 720p since it's providing the feed to the tv.

You need to get that video card working properly. Using "generic" isn't going to get you 720p.

This wiki page may help:

Maybe the virtual system isn't giving enough control over the video to LMCE. At best you may be able to get away with UI1, but if that doesn't work, then I'd say it's because LMCE doesn't like the 'virtual' environment. Lord knows it's fussy even on a standalone box!

The settings are:
connector: composite
video: 640x480/60khz
tv standard: PAL
video card: generic

If you have it set for 640x480 you're going to get 4:3.

You need to use a supported video card.... since the video card is going to dictate the output to the TV, you need a video card that can output in a format your TV supports (specifically, I mean cabling!) and in order to see widescreen you then need to use video settings that support that (720p for instance).

Sorry, but on my computer, with a nice 19" or 17" LCD Monitor, those support 4:3 format and if I watch widescreen? I get the black bars across the top and bottom. Unless I'm willing to "zoom" in to lose the black bars, and then lose video on the left and right in order to fill my screen. Not much I can do about that, that's the way the monitors work.

In your case it's pretty well backwards, you have a CRT widescreen TV but your settings are 640x480. That's what you're going to get!

You didn't say which video card you're using... tell us.

Most likely the solution is to use a different video card. Between the wiki and these forums you should have no problems finding models that are supported.

On the other hand, if you don't need the TV tuner or home automation features, you may want to look at XBMC. It's a nice looking, easy to use, easy to install media player.... but you'll have similar widescreen vs 4:3 issues no matter what you use at this point in time.

Oh and freymann, I doublechecked against your config screenshots, mine are configured identically in web admin.

 Ok, well, that's good.

The only thing I am doing that I don't know if you did, is I am using the instructions from the wiki in the X10 page about setting up the CM11. (It tells you to modify the template of the CM11 first so it is a "generic" device not just "lighting" so it can work with more devices... I did that change.)

I don't believe I made those changes at all... I'm sure it was pretty basic stuff I did... add the device template, add light templates...

I likely followed these instructions:

http://wiki.linuxmce.org/index.php/CM11

Short and sweet.

Users / Re: How to clean/rebuild the Media Database?
« on: December 05, 2008, 09:32:10 pm »
Witzman: You'll need to learn how to use the Files and Media section of the LMCE admin area... (the web admin page area)

There's plenty of info in the forums and wiki, but basically...

Pluto Admin > Files and Media > Media Files Sync

Find your path to the missing files on the left (or just browse around. Don't worry about the tv_shows_* folders)

On the right panel, check the box "Show files who are missing from disk"

You should be able to see entries on the bottom right that indicate they are in the database but no longer exist on the disk.

But from here, BE CAREFUL how you remove them.

If you do what would seem like the 'normal' way it erases your entire media database table and you have to wait for UpdateMedia to rescan and rebuilt things. That's not so pleasant.

When you find something that is missing, click on the file title and on the next screen you can click the delete file button. That is safe and works well.

I'm going to upload a couple images of my setup on CM11A and Light Switch On/OFF. Compare them to your setup.

You're likely going to need to upload some screen shots of how you have the CM11A configured, and the light, in LMCE.

The good news is, you know it works fine when you use heyu (I assume at the command line).

That's how I first tested things here with my setup. I also have my CM11A on a MD (which is left on 24/7) and not on the core (also left on 24/7).

When I was using heyu under MythBuntu, I always had to fiddle with the permissions of /dev/ttyS0 when the machine rebooted. Now that I'm using LMCE I've never ever had to fiddle with that.

I do believe I see the message about no custom handler. I don't know what it means as my X10 stuff works. I ignore the message.

I'm wondering if there was an update the CM11A code that jondecker made that you don't have? I can't remember if I had to download something to make my CM11A work. I'd advise you to search the forums and see if jondecker posted anything about updates to the cm11a module.

If there weren't any updates, then I'd say you don't have the CM11A configured properly in LCME and/or the light switch configured properly in LMCE.

On the bright side [hee hee] you're pretty darned close!!

I'll go see if i can't get you a screen shot of my CM11A setup and a light switch setup to compare against.

Also, just to add to my previous post, as I was sitting there typing it, my TV shut off without me being near the system, or my remote.

If you aren't "doing anything" the system will auto shut off.

Your other mention of the TV shutting off when you a press a button after a router reload? That used to drive me nuts too, until Tschak told me _why_ that happens.

Basically with IR, when you reload the router, it doesn't remember if things were On or Off. When you press a button, LMCE says "Gee, buddy wants to do something, I need to turn things on!" and so it sends the power ON command.

If you're TV is like mine, it doesn't have discreet (separate) On or Off commands, it's a power toggle.... so guess what happens? You reload the router, press a button, and it shuts off your tv!

It actually thinks it's turning it on for you. So as was pointed out to me, just shut off your TV before you press a button, or just know that when you do hit a button you'll need to power ON again.

It's not so bad later when you're done tinkering.

Make sure you didn't fiddle with the permissions on /dev/ttyS0 on the MD.

To get heyu to work I had to manually do a chmod on the device on each reboot (when I was using MythBuntu). Perhaps now that you've used heyu under LMCE, you have a permission problem which is causing no response back from the CM11A?

Did you put batteries in the CM11A? (take them out)

Did you upload a schedule to the CM11A with heyu? (erase it!)

This doesn't help.  Still the same problem

Yikes.

The only time I've had that problem was trying to handle videos... Like having a directory that contained a bunch of music videos by a specific artist. I would attach cover art to the directory, then use edit all files in this directory, attach cover art, and none are ever assigned to the enclosed videos....

But it's always worked for audio...

Sorry, that's all I can help you out with :'(

I've run into a weird problem and need some help.  I've gone into the media files sync area and tried to add a picture to an album.  I used the "edit all files in this directory" and uploaded a picture.  When I go back to my cube and sort by album, the picture does not show up.  However, if I click on the album and view the individual tracks, they have the newly added picture.  I also tried adding a picture to every level of the album that I could, including album and artist in media files sync.  Still no thumbnail for the album, just individual tracks.  Any help?

I just went over my music collection to add album art and I found I had to do two things to accomplish what you and I wanted.

First...

Media File Sync > Audio

and get a list of directories showing in the left column.

Click on an "album" so it displays on the larger right side.

Add your cover art here first.

Second...

Right after completing the above step? Click on "Edit attributes for all files in this directory"

Check off the files you want.

Add your cover art here second.

Now I get cover art for the album, and when I click the album I get coverart on each song.
