I wrote this awhile ago http://forum.linuxmce.org/index.php?topic=4782.msg28013#msg28013 and the answer to my question was USBUIRT and now I’m exactly in the same place you guys are at. I plug it in but my tuner continues to change the channel but my cable box still stays in the same channel. I see the little red light turn on any time I use any of my remotes i.e. tv, receiver, cable box but nothing happens outside of that. The overall result is that I keep getting the snow I reported earlier. I have the latest ver of MCE and using Gyration mouse. Not sure if the mouse has anything to do with it. Any help would be appreciated. thanks

when you try to record are you recording channel 3?
Yeah I was playing around and recording shows this morning and when I used MythTV’s guide to record a show it would only record snow. I had to stay on MythTv’s channel 3 and use my Comcast remote to change it to the channel of the program I wanted to record/watch. Then record channel 3 on Mythtv. Then and only then would it record the intended show, but I found that really impractical.

@ danielk

Thanks for the information. And all I have to do is connect the USBUIRT to my linuxmce core and Mythtv would be able to change the channel on my Comcast box in mythtv’s guide?

A side question I can’t see another TV when I’m recording…is that attributed to the fact that I only have one tuner card?

Hi,

I'm having the exact issue from the first part of grepico's post: http://forum.linuxmce.org/index.php?topic=4157.0

It seems that when I change the channel via the guide in MythTV I get snow. I can use the cable box remote without any issues but I have to have it on MythTv's channel 3. The issue arises when I try to schedule a recording it only records snow. Do I really need the USBUIRT in order for MythTV's internal guide to change my cable box channels when I just want to watch tv and record a show?

Grepico's thread seems to taper off into another topic and didn't really give a resolution on this issue. Thanks

Users / Thumbnails in Orbiter
« on: March 18, 2008, 05:41:27 pm »
Ok I've been researching this and have read some helpful posts but while trying to get my pictures to display thumbnails in the orbiter I noticed a couple of things.

Within the pictures folder LMCE creates two additional files for each picture. One is .id3 which im guessing is for the database. Then a thumbnail under the file ext of .tnj.

I had to manually copy each picture and rename them with the .tnj extension within Dolphin (linux explorer) in order to display the thumbnails. Problem solved but unpractical if you have a large collection of pictures to transfer. But I did notice that a couple of pictures didn't have a .id3 copy. So i thought the file name was the issue so i changed one file name by removing all the spaces and it generated a .tnj by itself!

So my question is...does the file name have to be a certain format in order for linux to automatically generate a .tnj file? Or am i doing something wrong?

I need help installing the video drivers (Nvidia® Geforce7050PV/NF630a), actually any and all drivers, bios updated included, for AN-M2HD on Linux MCE 0710 Beta4 in order to get the HDMI output to function properly.  I know if it were windows all I have to do is insert the disc and read the directions but under linux its a bit different. Any help concerning this wold be greatly appreciated.

So if I disable the onboard ATI video card and install an Nvidia card will the HDTV Bracket that has component outputs still work?

Can anybody tell me if this Gigabyte MB http://www.newegg.com/Product/ProductReview.aspx?Item=N82E16813128056 works with the latest LinuxMCE build. If it does i think i finally found the solution to connect it to my archaic TV (components) but has HDMI for possible tv upgrade. Any help would be appreciated

@JimmyGosling

You said you that you recently tried using the HDMI outputs on this Mboard...what were you using prior to this? Video card? If so how and which one. I'm just trying to understand how to connect my TV that has component inputs. Thanks

Users / Connecting my TV and Reciever

I'm a little vexed concerning how I will connect my LinuxMCE box to my component tv and Sony receiver. This video describes connecting the devices http://video.google.com/videoplay?docid=2176025602905109829&hl=en via usb --> RS232 but my equipment doesn't have serial connections.

The only way I can think of is a dvi--> component cable from the video card to my tv and use digital out from my motherboard or sound card to my receiver. Would this be a correct way to connect these devices? Any suggestion or tips would be appreciated. Thanks

Thanks for the feedback. Now i need something else resolved. Since this board has an hdmi out and optical out do I need an additional video and sound card or will the on board video/audio suffice? Once again thanks

I've researched motherboards for quite some time in order to build my first LinuxMCE box. I came across abit's HD Motherboard with HDMI http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16813127036. Can anybody tell me if this motherboard will work with LinuxMCE? Any help would be appreciated. Thanks
