Users / Re: Which resolution to use? (720p or 1366x768)

I see another weekend project in my future.  If I was still using my 61" crt rear projection that my wife burned the screen while watching CNBC all day I wouldn't have noticed any difference. With these new plasma and LCD TV's though, a little change can make a noticeable difference.  I can always go back to 720p if the graphics card or cpu can't keep up.  Should be a fun test though :)

I have a Sony 1080p LCD TV connected to my diskless MD with a Pentium 4 1.8 cpu and a Nvidia 5200 video card.  I'm not sure if the system/video card would be able to handle 1080p, so I set it up to use 720p. The TV says it will support a range of resolutions and convert the signal to the native resolution of 1920x1080.  The image quality is very good, but not stunning when playing a DVD from the core. Should I try and set this up at 1080p or leave it at 720p?

Does the Play button work for you? Doesn't seem to do anything on my remote.  What would keycode 179 map to in the .Xmodmap?

I know that this is going to sound like a stupid question, but how do I exit out of X to the command prompt to give the X -scanpci command?  I've had to startx before, but I've never needed to get to the command prompt.

Is it possible to have LMCE ignore the onboard video chipset?  I have an SIS onboard video card that I can not disable in the system bios and when the orbiter boots, I can see that it detects both the SIS video card and the NVidia card that I installed.  I'm 99% sure that the dual video card detection is preventing my orbiter from using UI2.

For Videos that do not have cover art assigned, add an option in the admin - cover art section to assign a random scene (say 20 seconds into the video) in the video as the cover art. I have some home movies and music videos that will never show a match in the cover art search so they always show empty. Would be nice to somehow add some cover art for those videos.

Users / Easy question
« on: March 08, 2008, 03:10:24 am »
I have what I think is a simple question, but after spending most of the day searching for the answer and browsing in the admin, I have yet to find it.  Whenever I play MP3 tracks (individual songs or a full album), the songs always repeat.  Like Xine is selected to a repeating mode.  How do I turn this off so that when the songs have finished, it exits the Audio selection and goes back to the main menu?

That did it. I noticed that I had switched from cifs to smbfs but without the username/password entry. I added a username/password and switched back over to cifs and it all started showing up again.

Excellent.  Just what I was looking for.  I haven't entered a username and password into the server configs yet, but that was on my to-do list tonight. Didn't know if you went back to cifs from smbfs after the typos were discovered in StorageDevices_StatusRadar.sh.

Thanks for the update.

I found this thread after experiencing the same issue this weekend. what ended up being the final resolution colinjones?

I made the corrections to the StorageDevices_StatusRadar.sh file and got my media to display.  Thought I had it fixed until I came home yesterday and found my Core/Hybrid machine hung and I had to reboot. When it came back, my Windows shared media were missing again.  I went directly to the admin page and the Online checkbox for all of my window shares were not checked. I checked the Online box, hit Save, closed the admin page, went back into the admin page, and again, the box was not checked.

I think I'm close to getting it to work, so I don't want to make any drastic changes. Since I can use search and find the media, does that mean the entries are still in the database?

Also, since I can play the windows shared media after finding it in a search, would that indicate that my permissions, firefall, network, etc is valid?

Installation issues / Re: Media Director devices did not start

It is indeed the lack of a master volume control on the sound card.  Thanks for the link!  I ran across another page that outlined this procedure, but it did not have the detail that this one has.

Can there be a sound card issue even if I have sound?

I'll search around more for internet connectivity issues. Found a lot of people that wanted to not have the Flickr screensaver. This will let me narrow down my search.

Thanks

Installation issues / Media Director devices did not start
« on: February 23, 2008, 06:41:08 pm »
I installed 7.10 successfully a couple of weeks ago. I then decided to change my sound card to a Soundblaster Audigy rather than the default one on the motherboard and upgrade my video card to an Nvidia Geoforce FX 5500. I installed the hardware and figured I would just do a re-install of LinuxMCE.  Have had nothing but problems since.  Even if I go back to my original hardware setup, I get the following problems.

1) During the Initial setup where it gives me the option to download additional software, I selected the w32codecs. I then got the message Cannot install software right now.  Please try again later. I did verify that my internet connection was still active and working, so I don't know why this would happen.

2) When LinuxMCE is starting (from the Launch Manager), I noticed the following the the message area - Starting device 15 App Server with the error Timeout waiting for device registration.  I then get a black screen with "There are some devices on this media director that did not...(can't see the rest because it is off of my TV screen).

3) When it does come up, I don't get the Flickr screensaver.

I am assuming that item #2 is the cause of all of my issues, but I don't know how to tell what device is giving me problems.  I would have thought it may have been the video card, but when I rolled back to the working card, I get the same errors.  Any suggestions on where to start?
