Installation issues / Internal/External NIC reconfigure?
« on: March 21, 2008, 01:26:08 am »
I'm sure this is a problem that's been addressed before but I couldn't find it, links to previous posts would be appreciated.

I didn't realize this would be a problem but I changed the network configuration in MCE due to the necessity of having my Giga-LAN as my internal network.  Which changes my internal to eth0 and my external to eth1.  I think that by default MCE tries to do it the other way around.  I'm not having any trouble accessing the internet through KDE (that's how I'm accessing the forums now) but I've noticed my Software packages list is empty and flickr is trying to do something (shades are changing in background) but no pictures are coming up.  Is there a way to tell MCE about my new setup? :)

Thanks in advance!

Users / Gyration Remote Configuration

**EDIT** Title was way wrong, modified to better describe problem**

I'm sure I'm missing something simple, or didn't find the right document in the wiki.  But I'm having issues trying to bring up a menu while a movie is playing.  either with the keyboard/mouse or my Gyration remote.  I can use the next, previous and stop buttons but none of the others seem to respond except in the dvd menu.  What am I doing wrong?

Installation issues / [SOLVED] 8500GT 3d nvidia driver issue
« on: March 12, 2008, 07:09:09 pm »
**EDIT**
I edited the title to better reflect the actual problem (hopefully make it searchable).  The solution is in my last post in the thread (or at least, my solution for my problem) but there is still the power issue that I fixed in the middle of this thread by replacing the power supply.
**EDIT**

Well, I'm finally getting somewhere I think.  Had issues with my Nvidia 8500GT not liking the "nvidia" drivers.  I was kinda working with the "nv" but OpenGL would not work.  I downloaded the new Nvidia drivers, ran the install and in general everything went well until I tried to start X up again.  Blank screen.  So I did a little searching and came across http://forum.linuxmce.org/index.php?topic=4379.0

Happily that worked.  I can now start X and I get the cool nvidia splash screen and all.  Except now, ONLY X starts (no KDE or MCE).  So I get that god aweful "x" cursor and no GUI.  When I reboot MCE does not come up automatically.  I got through the install using the simple layout (no OpenGL) on the "nv" drivers.  I'm shooting for using the "nvidia" driver with OpenGL (alpha blending if possible).  Any ideas? :-\

Thanks in advance!

Users / [SOLVED] Command line login issue
« on: March 12, 2008, 05:12:48 pm »
I'm feeling very dumb right now.  I can not log into command line doing [ctrl]+[alt]+F1

LinuxMCE 0704 DVD install

I paid special attention to what the setup said my username and password was.  (and the PIN number for what it's worth)  I got into MCE, jumped down to command line login and entered it... no go.  Wrong username/password.  Switched over to KDE interface and ran the User Management.  Found out my username was actually pluto_username.  Reset the password to something I knew what it'd be, then got back down to command line.  I could successfully log in but immediately logged me back out.  I'm going to assume that the initrd has some script to prevent direct login's... that or I'm doing something WAY wrong.  After a reboot I can't even use the pluto_username with my new password.  Does it change that back to some default password?  I'm feeling lost not being able to log into command line =(

I'm trying to get down to command line so I can run and install new Nvidia drivers due to OpenGL problems with the "nv" driver.  I tried just changing it to "nvidia" in the xorg.conf but it crashes X on the reboot.  I've searched but couldn't find anything on it.  Then again, I've always been cursed when it comes to searching =D
