« on: August 21, 2008, 11:29:08 pm »
Thank you so much nite_man! It looks like its a 2/3? You say the Nokia Orbiter doesn't support making calls/recieving, are they any plans to implement this? And have you or anyones else made a work around, like runing a SIP client in the background, and setting it up as an extension - it just make the N800 even more handier, coz when the phone rings while watching TV, you can pause TV/DVD/Video/Audio etc, and answer the call from the same device - very nice.. rather than getting up to pickup the phone, or even scrambling for the Wireless DECT phone, and trying to remember if your teenage daughter brought it back into the living room after her last call  ;D

I'm excited to recieve my N800 and start tinkering with it - I think i'll get a heads up from the wife when she can watch her favourite soap on it (assuming the MythTV Maemo client doesn't conflict with the Orbiter) while i watch my sport - its more likely to be vice-versa tho, me on the N800 wifey on the TV LOL!

thanks

Hi All,

I'm trying to make a descision to buy a N800/N810 orbiter vs the Fiire Chief.  I've been looking through the wiki but cannot seem to find a feature list for the N800 Orbiter.  The main areas i'm curious about are:
  • Intergrated SIP Phone - Can I make/recieve call directly through the Orbiter or do i need to run some other SIP client in the background e.g Ekiga
  • Intergrated EPG - Would be great to navigate the EPG.  I saw a screencast showing an EPG the other day, but don't knew if that was a new UI in the works or the feature is already present in the current stable release
  • Battery Life - Not realy a feature but, want to know if it makes sense to use this a primary remote in each room i have an MD

Lastly, I read a thread from 2007, where there were issues with switching to and fro the Orbiter software, How is that now.  I would imagine my wife would enjoy using the device to browse the web, check email etc - but also be able to easily & quickly switch back to the Orbiter Remote - when she quickly wants to answer the phone, or pause DVD playback to attend to a visitor at the door etc.  So in short i'm asking people who have been using this device what its like, ease of use, intuitiveness etc.

Thank you for your assistance,

Sam

Users / Do i go X10 or Z-Wave 240V - Security & Automation
« on: August 09, 2008, 09:21:46 am »
Greetings to the wonderful LMCE Community,

I believe I'm now ready to beef-up my LMCE installation.  current I have a hybrid which works well, though i'm still to get my STB and TV working properly (only got a USBUIRT and IR blasting seems to not work with RC2)

Anyway, I'd like to get my home automation going, starting with Lighting, Climate, and Security - Motion Sensors and Cameras.  I looked at the Fiire online store and they can provide Z-Wave USB dongles, e.g. the "Smart Products Z-Wave RS-232/USB Interface", the Plug-in appliance modules and the Light Dimmers (wall-mount), I'm sure that should work for the my lights and climate control (i'm sure i can connect the air-con into the z-wave appliance module)  for the security side i hadn't found Z-Wave motion sensors yet.   Any Ideas as to what i need for a basic alarm system functionality - I would also optionally like contact sensors for windows and doors.  Atleast for Camera, i've seen people using various IP Camera's, am sure X10 Camera's would do too..

I needed some recommendations as to what would be cost effective and most compatible with LMCE,

thank you,

Sam

Hi,

I went through the videos a couple of days ago! And was very impressed with whats there already!  I believe with some guidance I cold work with my graphical artist (from our Company) and try do some mockups of a few ideas.

I wanted to ask about animation, i believe i saw an "animate" checkbox in the DesignObj options, is so how does that work, and where and how has it been used in the current UIs.

Lastly, where can i get info about UI 2.5, would love to get involved, need somewhere to start, could help with Artwork maybe, and hopefully get into bare metal soon enough..

regards,

Sam

« on: June 18, 2008, 02:36:45 pm »
Hi,

Been still looking for a small form-factor MD for my setup, but still haven't come to a decision yet.  Today i stumbled upon the "Fiire Invisible"

Last i saw in the forum, pple discouraged me from the previous model that Fiire offered.  Has anyone tried this one out?
whats the experience like?

Need something that will do 1080p or even 1080i but quiet, with an optical drive option.

Thanks,

Sam

Users / Re: Multiple (ie 2-4) TV Tuners in 1 CORE
« on: June 18, 2008, 02:22:23 pm »
Hi,

I'm also looking to put have multiple TV feeds for LIVE TV from my CORE, I'm currently using a DVB-S card with MythTV.  I want to try out VDR and was wondering, from the VDR forums they talk about a Multiplex stream capability if you're watching channels that are on the same multiplex.  Is/Will such features be supported in LinuxMCE anytime soon.  I know MythTV now has this feature in the current stable version, but don't know if and when that will be available on LinuxMCE?

regards,

Sam

@johndecker

Very sorry about your loss!  Was wondering when your video footage of the setup will be available,  am keen to do a similar setup but am a bit stuck on how to setup TVs and STBs that only use IR using the UIRT.  If you could please document how u do your templates etc, that would be great!

Best regards,

Sam

I disagree!

1. I don't believe anyone who doesnt know what windows is, Linux or MacOSX is should be installing an operating system on their own.  You say the average person would be vexed by what a "USB dingle" is?

2. Not everyone is going to install LinuxMCE on their own, or Windows for that mater, many windows users I know would be lost, and don't even understand what a "driver" is!

I believe the devs have done well with the automated setup, thats one of the beauties of LMCE!

I do agree that there needs some UI refinement and that it should be easier for contributers to assist I'm that manner, but there is work under way UI3 is in the works and will achieve this

Best regards,

Sam

Users / LinuxMCE setup with no TV-card
« on: May 14, 2008, 10:29:00 pm »
hi,

Gave got a friend who wants a LinuxMCE setup, but doesnt like the way it looks when you plug it into the satellite tv box through the analog capture card. The quality is unacceptable to him, and he doesnt care too much for TV recording.

Is it possible to have such a setup where the TV is conneted directly to the satelite box and home theater systems, and have lmce control the tv and audio player via the USB-UIRT so that when you select tv from the menu it sets the right inputs so as to display the satelite tv in full quality?

Secondly, how can one add unsupported hardware to the templates so that they can be picked up through plug-n-play or confided manually at a later stage, and shared with the rest if HHS community?  We have unsupported TVs and satelite decoders, would like to add settings that other users else when can benifit from & me too obviously! When ever I do a clean install the AV wizard would know my new hardware.

thank you.

hi,

Just for interest, any reason the BD patch is not yet in the main tree? And apearing in the RC releases? Is there issues with stability? Completion? Or is it just coz it didnt make the feature freeze?

Just curious coz its such a valuable tool to have the JavaMO - how nice I'd would be when it works out if the box.

Kind regards,

Sam

Users / Re: When will there be Divx dvd support?
« on: March 27, 2008, 03:26:26 pm »
Hi,

Am not yet versed with the inards & workings of LMCE, but i should imagine it maybe a mater of modifying the  code/applet that run upon "new media insert" event handler, so that it can scan the type of CD/DVD thats been inserted, the contents and maybe go through the contents and find playable media.

For example if CD/DVD contains photos, it would be nice to then start a photo/import/slideshow wizard of some sort, secondly if its Music Jukebox CD/DVD (contains mp3,mp4,ogg,flac, etc) then it plays that.. and for video the same.

As you might already note, this is not as trival a task as it seems at first.  many people backup their DivX movies on a CD/DVD by just burning a couple of folders onto a Data disk. thats fine, but the LMCE will need to scan  the folders for subtitles, cover-art etc..   8)

if I'm pointed in the right direction, i would mind working on this..

best regards,

Sam

Developers / Will MythTV 0.21 be in the next Beta release?
« on: March 27, 2008, 09:07:50 am »
Hi,

Was excited to hear that VDR 1.6 will be in the next beta release, and further work is going on to intergrate it into LMCE.  Any word on the MythTV side? and also some idea of the MythTV & LMCE intergration roadmap.  Would like to help.  I've heard of lots of talk about somethings that people like in myth thats not working so well in LMCE and vice-versa.  Could see anything on mantis to point me in the right direction.

best regards,

Sam

hi,

I haven't had the chance to install beta4 yet, but from following your posts I'm starting to think you may have a hardware issue. It maybe gutsy or something else, but I recommend you try setup a new core on a different box. Await your next results.

I'm interested in this as well. I'd much rather run myth svn as there are a lot of desirable features in the SVN/Trunk implementation

name some of the desirable features...
