Users / Re-calibrate broken Fiire Chief?
« on: March 31, 2009, 01:54:45 pm »
Hey!

Does anybody have the problem, that the cursor controlled by the fiire chief ist misbehaving?
Mine goes a bit a up, when move the control from left to right, moving more left when going up to down.
As murphy predicted, each time some remote fell my couch, it usally used to be the ugly brown one.
Does anybody have an idea how to fix that?
Is it possible to re-calibrate that thing (e.g. by throwing it on the ground in the right angle?) or by opening it up?

Thank you guys.. ;O))

Installation issues / Re: cant get to boot from DL DVD amd 64
« on: March 15, 2009, 12:53:59 am »
I experienced problems with the DVD Boot when i tried to to change language/keyboard/graphic settings at the kubuntu boot prompt. leaving everything alone worked most of the time. I tried the setting change on several dvds like 7.04/7.10, 32 & 64 bit, but was just left with a bunch of DVDs nice LMCE installation disks ;O)

Users / Re: NAS Poll
« on: March 09, 2009, 11:57:14 pm »
Well,
as the "others" are more than 50%, maybe the poll should be more specific.
Think of solutions as (open)solaris with its kick-ass ZFS, *nix in general(linux, BSD...), open-e and the others.

Cheers

Installation issues / Re: Rate my first Linux MCE build please
« on: March 08, 2009, 05:49:21 pm »
prosquad,

as the others said, start up with the core. MY personal advice, don't start to fancy, as usually LMCE doesn't work out of the box, when picking modern hardware. for the core, your CPU might be over the edge, RAM... pick some cheap reliable, like Kingston. Be careful with the graphiccard. Keep to advices of the pros like Andre and Thom as these guys now what they are talking about !  ;) *stickingupmyheadsomea..*

Think about using 2 hard drives, a smaller speedy one (160GB, aprox. 30-40USD) and a data drive so you don't have to take much care about your media data when reinstalling (at the beginning, there are usually more than one).

The DiNovo wont work out-of-the box... so better order that on round 2. USB/PS2 works ALWAYS .

And... do NOT forget about the wiki => http://wiki.linuxmce.org/index.php/Hardware  and  http://wiki.linuxmce.org/index.php/Category:Hardware .

The more you keep to "working" hardware, the more fun you will have with LMCE. BUT... getting stuff working
might be fun as well, keeps feeling your pro-like! ;O)

Enjoy your trip with LMCE...

Damn Hari!  ;O)
well i will give a shot and try to get as much cards as i can get.
For now i tested a
- Z-COM XI-325HP => not working
- 3Com 3CRPAG175 => not working

so I'm still running another router with WEP encryption... and when the Webpadorbiter has a bad day not even that ;O)

Pat

P.S: well... maybe the reason is I, why the cards didn't work ;O)

NicCOConnor,

the MDs are not working on a "stream", but are using the core as the "harddrive".
This means, that the system your are running is the one in the "moonXX" folder.

I doesn't matter if you change stuff on the MD or ssh from the core into the moonXX
or edit the files directly. It's just alle the same ;O)

Maybe just a hint... but i had some issues with choppy sound as well,
and the blacklisting of the mentioned driver worked for me.

hi there,

same thing happened to me two days ago.
It used to work like a charme, WEP encryption on Tschaks gamma release.
Then i tried my 3Com wlan card to try it with WPA. As that didn't worked out for me,
i tried to go back to WEP... than. Nothing. Now i have to disable WEP encryption to get my
dear Webpad Orbiter to work.
I did even delete the orbiter on my LMCE, reflashed the gamme release, no success.

Does anyone experienced the same ... and got it working?

Thx..

Well,

as there is already the IRC Channel for live conversations, i pretty much like the forums.
With them, everybody can participate of one's issues, problems and more.
Myself enjoys reading most of the posts and check what might can be useful for my own system...or more, my future kick ass systems ;O)

Users / Re: how many different MD streams from a core?
« on: January 24, 2009, 11:49:29 pm »
Hmm.. does anyone have some experiences with multiple streams using data stored on a NAS?
i guess the HDD performance on a NAS should be plenty ;O) but... what's the best pratice setup to get the best performance? Multiple Gbit NICs? iSCSI ? I pretty much like the idea, to store my stuff in a NAS (upcoming project: buildung a multi TB ZFS NAS) as i don't have to take care of my data, if i want to test a new LMCE version ...
so how are your results with so many streams... anyone?

Hmm.. can't you just move the file via the network? Its not really the quickest way (sata pretty much kicks 1gbit networks ass! ;O), but that way you do not have to mess with your win box. keep in mind that with 100mbit you can get 8-12mb/sek, gbit will give you round about 20-30mb/sek. Colins way will be aprox. 60-80 mbyte/sek.

Tim,

i used knoppix to dd thoms beta3 on the webdt366. I saw the gamma version, for no reason i just took the beta3 from thoms webspace ( i guess, i need to check my greek alphabet, don't i?).

So does the gamma release now support wpa? Or are you guys using any different wifi card?
Thx...

Hey guys,

i finally got my Webpad Orbiter to work... and it wasn't as hard as i thought it would be. ;O)
Knoppix is just amazing concerning hardware detection.

As the internal wireless nic won't support WPA under any linux OS... are there some recommendations concerning an already supported one that could be grabbed for cheap on ebay?
I don't like the idea to have just one wifi-router online jus for the "remote".
So if anyone tried something that did work out... please let us know ... ;O)

Patrick

Btw. Awesome work, Thom! Works really pretty smooth!
