for that matter, the wiki doesn't give any info on the g33 chipset (at least not searching for g33), so does anyone know if that will even work?

Zaerc (and anyone else),

Have you made any progress with getting MythTV to work (re: http://wiki.linuxmce.org/index.php/ASUS_M2A-VM)?

I assume that you can still watch videos, and recorded tv through Xine but just can't do LiveTV on this board since LiveTV is a function of MythTV specifically?

So, I'm awaiting the arrival of my E2160 on Friday to complete the hardware for my Core, but I'm getting very impatient.  My Core will be using a GA-G33M-DS2R as its motherboard.  My main desktop machine has a GA-P35-DS3L motherboard.  What do you think the chances are if I do the install on that machine and then just move the hdd over to the real Core when the cpu comes of things just working out okay?  The motherboards are almost identical, minus the fact that the G33 has integrated graphics and a raid controller and the P35 has extra PCI slots.

I suppose I lose nothing but a bit of time if it DOESN'T work when swapping motherboards, but I at least get some experience with the install process.  Maybe I'll just go ahead and take the plunge.  Then again, I have a feeling my 8800gts in the desktop is going to cause me headaches...

The CD installer already gives you that functionality.  The DVD edition is there for a different purpose/set of requirements.  Stop trying to stick a square peg in the round hole and rtfm.

Do not unarchive, just select "Burn Disk Image" in whatever burning software you are using, then give it that .iso file.  If you are using builtin windows burning functionality, it is stupid and will just burn the .iso as a file to a data disk.

Also, if it is giving you an error about wrong architecture, are you sure you are installing on a 64-bit machine?  If not, you need to use the i386 install DVD/CDs.

I'm pretty sure that as long as you set up iptables to allow existing connections back in things will work okay.  I can't imagine you actually need to forward the ports, just make sure they aren't blocked by the firewall.  sadly I can't quite remember the terminology iptables uses for this functionality; but basically its that if you have established a connection from within your network to the outside, then responses are allowed back through.

You will need to first set up your account at DynDNS.  Once you have done that and it is active you will have to go to whatever device is acting as the router connected directly to your cable/dsl/modem and set up to connect to your DynDNS account from there as it will be that device that grabs the public IP address from your ISP.

Grepico,

I will assume by the description of your problem in installing the flashplayer that you are using a 64-bit distro.  Adobe has yet to create a 64-bit version of flashplayer for linux.  Full stop.  The ubuntu forums have many posts with guides on how to alternatively isntall 32-bit firefox so that you can get the 32-bit flashplayer for linux working in your browser.

Again, this is Adobe's fault for not supplying a 64-bit linux version of flashplayer.  It affects ALL versions of linux.  In fact, even in 64-vista the auto-installer doesn't work, but there IS a manual installer that works in that case.

ok..  wait a minute...  I have a 64-bit MD....  instead of trying to go through the hassle of installing individual packages (because I couldn't get flash installed by itself), I just went in through add/remove programs (adept_installer) and installed the Ubuntu/Kubuntu Restricted extras and now flash is working...

Either a) you have 32-bit firefox installed or b) a 64-bit flashplayer has been added to the repositories in Ubuntu 7.10? (i'm still runing 7.04)

I'd also be interested in the answer to that, as well as the following:

I ordered two Hauppauge PVR-150's that come with the MCE remote and kit.  Will I have any trouble getting things set up for the transmitters that come with that kit to control my satellite boxes (2 identical ones, one installed on the core and one installed on the MediaDirector)?  Or, should I have gone with the plane-jane version of the PVR-150 and grabbed one or more USBUIRTs?  Can a USBUIRT control multiple devices?  Multiple identical devices?
