Did you insert the cd into your core or an MD ?
This feature currently works using the core/hybrid optical drive only (the content can be accessed from any where).
We're currently working on getting it to work on MD's as well.

Unfortunatly, I can't help you with the surveillance video, but maybe some one else can ...

I've been following this post for the last couple of days and I have to say that some of the responses here really puzzle me.
As I understand it, Thom was simply trying to stress out to the community how badly this project needs more people to role up their sleeves and help the VARY few people that are working on it.
As a result I now see 10 pages of a discussion revolving around what people believe needs to be done and how they think it should be done. It seems to me that some of the people here are simply missing a vary simple point.

If you think the PR of this project needs to be better, take it into your hands and do something about it...

If you think the wiki needs to be improved, improve it...

If you think the gui/HW support/(put anything else here) needs to be added/improved, just do it...

If you think the project needs money, get up and raise it...

Its really that simple and this goes for any other area you'd like to improve.
If you run into obstacles while at it, ask for help, you will get it.

Don't expect any one to hold your hand and tell you that we need this or that. That's not gonna happen. Why ? Because we need EVERYTHING, be it Device templates, PR, Documentation, GUI/Usability improvements, better web presence and list goes on and on ...
So the idea is simple, there's basically nothing that you can add/improve in that system that is not "needed".

Just remember that you can create a kind of a band aid for something you need to or you can add it correctly. The amount of work you need to put in might be bigger but if you're doing it anyway, why not ask one of the devs for some guidance on how to achieve your goal correctly ?

If you think this project needs to be structured differently, that's cool. If, on top of it, you have, at least, spent a sufficient amount of time getting to know the system and it's inner workings, and you think you know enough to be able to determine what's good for the system and the community (and a good manager will know when he's ready to make any suggestions/comments about a new project he's getting into ...) , then by all means, come up with a plan that you think is suitable and bring it to the table where it can be discussed and decided upon. But remember that unless all of the above is true then any suggestion of this nature can not be taken seriously.

In short people: IF YOU WANNA SHOOT, SHOOT, DON'T TALK !!!

It seems to me that that's what the devs are trying to tell you again and again.

My two cents ...

I have a media hdd (fat32) on my 0810 machine. on boot, it gets mounted and stays mounted for a very short time and then disapears and doesn't come back until doing a reload router.

Ideas ?

For the core, try to find an Abit AN-M2HD (a bit tricky ... but you might still find them, other wise Ebay might be a good option too). It has all you want and works OTB. Just pop in another NIC (Preferebly an Intel one), use the onboard one for your internet connection and you're home free.
For MD you can use the same but the onboard nic doesn't seem to like the gig lan and might freeze every now and then, nothing to it, just reboot the MD and you're home free (or use a 100 lan).
There are lots of other boards, that work OTB, and are still availble, just check the wiki.
ohh... and as Colin said, SATA drives work OTB so I have no idea what gave you the idea they're problematic.

Skeptic, it just came to me that I had a TV I was strugling with and trying the same things I suggested to you with no luck, and for some strange reason, 1280x800(custom) (that's how it's written in the AVWizard...) worked. I have no idea why but it worked, so I'd try it just in case.
Can you write down the make and model of your TV, or better yet, provide a link to download it's users manual ?

Skeptic, first, check your TV's native resolution and enable it in resolutions.conf. Then, set use EDID to true in your xorg.conf and rerun AVWizard.
That should get rid of the overscan.
BTW, if your resolution is not listed in resolution.conf, check the wiki, there should be a guide on how to add the correct resolution to that file. Also make sure that driver name is correct, as most hidden resolutions have "VIA" listed as the driver.

Hope this helps

OK, here goes ...

With what you have you can definetly do what you want without too much hussle. You'll just need to throw another nic inside (i'd go for an intel gig nic with boot rom) and you're pretty much ready to go.
Your first desicion should be with what ver. of lmce to go with.
The current stable ver. is 0710, and it is indeed stable. The downside of it is that it does not support your mother board out of the box, which means installing 0710 is some what tricky. But if you have some vary basic computer knoledge, then with the wiki and a little help you can get it installed and working.
The newer ver. is 0810. Altough this version supports your hardware out of the box, it is still in alpha stage and it is still not ready for every day use, so I'd wait for it to mature.
For your video recording needs, a pvr-150 for analoge broadcast and HDhomerun for your HD channels are supported out of the box. All you need to do is connect them and set the system to use them. Again, info on how to do this is all over the forum and wiki, or you can join the #linuxmce irc channel on freenode.net, where you will easily find some one who can help you out.
As for the MD's in the rooms, if the computers in those rooms can boot from the network (pxe boot) and their hardware is supported then any of these can be used as an MD and provide you access to all your media and control over your whole house from every one of them.
If the hardware on them does not work with linuxmce, you will have to find hardware that works.

Hope this helps

I've installed the pluto.mo on my N95, and after some strugle (had faulty doungle) got it to work.
Every thing seems to work fine accept for the follow me function.
I turn it on, set a video to play and then go to another room, once the phone gets detected in the new room, the media in the room I started at shuts off, but nothing happenes in the new room (accept for the massege that the phone has been detected ...).
Any idea what could be worng ?
