Installation issues / Can't get 720p from Intel i945
« on: May 31, 2008, 05:20:49 pm »
Trying out an aOpen 945vxr mini pc as a diskless md, setup ran just fine (it got setup as an amd64 for some reason).
In the AVWizard I choose DVI 720p 60hz, but it reapears as 800X600 60hz. I tried several other resollutions but nothing seems to work.
I was under the impression that this chipset is supposed to be supported OTB by lmce

Any ideas ???

Thnx

Users / Setting mythtv up for a core and several MD's
« on: May 21, 2008, 06:03:53 pm »
I'm trying to set up the system so that the core/hybrid serves as a master backend without any capture cards, 3 MD's will be slave back ends each having a pvr-150 installed, and the 4th MD will be a slave backend without a capture card as well.
So far I haven't been able to accomplish anything.
I've gone thru mythtv setup on the core ONLY adding a source (XMLTV), then I ran mythfilldatabase on the core.
I then setup the MD's selecting the pvr's and setting XMLTV as the sources for each one of them and skipping all of that all togather on the MD without the PVR.
To my best knoledge, I am supposed to have 3 active inputs working with the master backend (running "echo "select sourceid from videosource" | mysql -uroot mythconverg" should give 3 sources), but i still have only one active source and only the MD with that card shows the TV signal. Trying to run mythtv on the core gives a massege saying all availble outputs are taken, and the other MD's fail to show anything as well.
I made sure mythfilldata base was only run on the core so this should be setup proerly.

Any ideas?

Thnx

Installation issues / Re: Configuring screen resolution
« on: May 14, 2008, 07:44:27 am »
your hdmi input on the TV's config menu should have a selection betwin two types of connections, TV and PC. (it might be named a bit differently on verious TV's but I hope you get the idea ...)
Switch to PC mode and you're home free.

I also have alpha with no tearing on the same abit board. Did you try tweaking your graphics memory in the bios? I've set mine to 256mb for graphics, maybe that will help ...

You're better off buying the H2 model, as it has an onboard NVIDIA chipset rather then the ATI one which is on the A3. The reason for this is that currently, there is no decent support for ATI in linux.
One more thing, the H2 has a DVI out put, taking into consideration that currently, there's no support for audio via HDMI, you are not compromising anything as the video signal delivered thru DVI is identical to the one delivered thru HDMI.

Hope this helps.

Yep.

Same thing here.
I tried renaming them to the way it works in windows (filename.avi --> filename.srt) and the videos play just fine but no subtitles.
Trying to play the the way it worked in B4 (filename.avi --> filename.avi.srt) puts out a massege "file not found ..."

Can any body figure out what has gone wrong ?

Well. after some fiddling, I can confirm that this thing works :)!
I still need to figure out how to simulate the nintendo "sensor bar" to improve the accuracy and control (The two cendle method is cute but it won't work for me ... ) but even placing a pencil flashlight under the TV makes it work pretty good.
Now's the time to figure out how to make it "follow me" compatible, which will make it the perfect sollution for the system (in my view at least).

BTW, is there a way to make the power button shut down the MD ?

Thnx

Follow the instrucions I poted here to succesfully recompile and install alsa-utils. This will anable you to run alsaconf which will properly identify and install your soundcard on the system. This should also fix your SPDIF issues.

Hope this helps.

You may need to enable more sources in the sources.list to get the additional languages available. This can open the system to other packages that might break things however. So you should reset it after adding the missing pieces.

Could you please explain how to do it (all the process please, as I'm a total noob to linux ...)

thnx
