LinuxMCE / Installation issues / Re: Beta 2 Installation issues [SOLVED]

Thanks for the help Tim, your recommendations saved me from another install. The only problem I'm noticing now is that I have no sound on either my Core or my Diskless MD. Not sure if it's an issue with the alsa driver, but I'm going to re-install it and see if that helps. Let me know if you have any suggestions.
Thanks,
Ernesto

LinuxMCE / Installation issues / Beta 2 Installation issues [SOLVED]

All,
Sorry for adding another problem, but I'm having a problem getting Beta 2 installed, and I'm now on my 4th or 5th installation via the internet install. I believe the installation is complete, but the AVWizard doesn't come, instead the screen turns white and just sits there. I don't have the logs from my last "aptitude dist-upgrade" in front of me, but what from what I can remember it appears to have something to do with the following packages. I noticed a problem with these files.
libvdpau1 nvidia-glx-180 libxine1
I know this is very vague, but I'm hoping someone has seen the same thing and can shed some light on the matter.

Update:
I got it all working. I wasn't paying attention to the questions when I ran "comcast_update", so I never actually updated my lineup.
Thanks for the help Skeptic, and thanks tkmedia for the for the original.

Ok. So I must has been having a brain lock, because I never noticed that the database fields were commented out. In any case I got the script to work, but I'm not seeing a change in my channels. Am I missing something? Should be I be launching the script from a particular directory, and do I need to do anything after the script completes its run?
Thanks,
Ernesto

Not sure why you had to put password in .... several of us have done it without.
Tim
710 or 810? I forget the details, but the place I hard coded the password was commented out with a comment about getting the login info from a configuration file. Uncomment and put the actual login info in if it can't get it from the config file. I looked and didn't even have that config file. Tried it as root, linuxmce, and my user login. I'm running 810. The username and password fields in the file are both set to "mythtv". I tried changing it, but I ended up with the same error either way I try it: DBD::mysql::st execute failed: No database selected at /usr/local/bin/comcast_update line 485, <STDIN> line 1. DBD::mysql::st execute failed: No database selected at /usr/local/bin/comcast_update line 485, <STDIN> line 1. Any idea what else I can do?

making progress - I had to edit comcast_update and put my actual database password in. Also needed to run "tv_grab_na_dd --configure" separately. Now I'm just working through the menus, following directions, etc.
Skeptic, Besides adding your DB password and running tv_grab_na_dd --configure, was there anything else you needed to do in order to get the comcast_update script to run successfully? Thanks, Ernesto

So I ran a tail -f on the 70_Powerfile_C200.log and came up with the following. Not sure what the deal is, because as I said in the previous post I was able to run the DVD from the Desktop. Any advice would be greatly appreciated. 01 12/03/09 20:14:23.661 JukeBox::Load_from_Slot_into_Drive -- bad slot 1 status 0 <0xb5bffb90> Ernesto

LinuxMCE / Feature requests & roadmap / Re: PadOrbiter: Using mic and audio jack or speakers for telephone communication

it is possible in theory, but will require additional patching of Orbiter, the Telecom Plugin (for routing), and SimplePhone. Dive in if you want, -Thom Thanks for the opportunity, but I think this is a little out my league. Being that the 810 is in the beta stage, it's probably not the best time to be making requests, but perhaps once 810 is at the RC stage this could be revisited. I know I'd be more than willing to fund the time necessary for this feature. Thanks again Thom, and keep up the great work. Ernesto

Update:
I pulled up the Kubuntu desktop and attempted to play the DVD using the "Dragon Player" software, and viola it worked. So now I know that it's not the changer itself.
Does anyone know where I should be looking for errors from LMCE related to a failure to run the DVD? I've been searching logs /var/log/ directory, but I can' t see anything related to my problem.
Thanks,
Ernesto
