Installation issues / Re: Sony VAIO VGP-XL1B: Unable to play loaded DVD's
« on: December 02, 2009, 05:36:04 pm »
Update:

I pulled up the Kubuntu desktop and attempted to play the DVD using the "Dragon Player" software, and viola it worked. So now I know that it's not the changer itself.

Does anyone know where I should be looking for errors from LMCE related to a failure to run the DVD? I've been searching logs /var/log/ directory, but I can' t see anything related to my problem.

Thanks,

Ernesto

Try ripping a dvd or cd

HTH

Tim

I tried that as well, but it started to rip, and with a couple of seconds, it said that the rip was complete.  When I went to the "Video" section I did not find the ripped media.

Thanks Tim,

Ernesto

Hmmm... try a full regen.

Andrew

Tried regenerating a couple of times, but with no success. When I try to play a DVD, I can hear the changer loading and spinning the DVD as if it about display something. I don't think its the changer, only because it's brand new out the box. Once my Thanksgiving turkey coma subsides I'm going to take my diskless MD and slap a hard drive in it, and run LMCE 7.10 as a test. If it works, I'll know it's something that is missing from the beta, and not the hardware.

Thanks Andrew,

Ernesto

Hello All,

I'm currently running 8.10B, and am testing the new DVD jukebox I just purchased. I' running into a problem when I try to play a disk from the changer, I keep getting the following error on the orbiter screen:

I cannot play this media. Perhaps there is not a valid device in this entertainment area capable of playing it. Drive is not available

Has anyone else run into this problem?

Thanks,

Ernesto

Depending on what it's written, I may be able to take a shot at it as well.

Thom - If you can point us in the right direction, I'd like to try to get this going.

Users / FireWire Support for Motorola DCT-6412 using MythTV

Hello All,

I've searched through the LinuxMCE forum for information on this matter, but most of the info I came across is not very recent, and does not provide a clear answer.

Does or will LinuxMCE 8.10 provide support for channel tuning via Firewire on the DCT-6412 using MythTV? If so, is there any LinuxMCE specific instructions to get it working, or should I go by the directions on the MythTV site?

Thanks in advance,

Ernesto

Thanks for the discovery mhorst.

This appears to still be a problem. I just set up my MD and could not get Myth to work.  I followed the steps provided by mhorst, and I'm up and running.

Thanks,

Ernesto

CaddyWhompus,

How are you performing your 8.10B install? Are you using the DVD install, or the Internet Installation process documented in the following link? I would give that internet install a try and see if that helps at all.

Ok. I'll probably have to touch base on this after the holiday's, as the pockets will be a little light from here until the new year. Thanks for the information.

No problem. Glad to hear it worked.  :)

Thom,

Would you need one in order to get it to work with LMCE?

Hello All,

I came across the the following item at Best Buy the other day, and I thought it would make a nice replacement for the discontinued Sony VAIO VGP-XL1B3. It has an Ethernet and RS-232 ports, so I think it can be made to work, but I'll let the Devs speak to that. Just thought I'd let the community know just in case anyone was looking at media changer, like I've been.

Anxious,

The DVD install seems to be a bit buggy. I'd recommend doing the internet installation to see if you have a better experience. See link below.

phenigma,

That's good to know. Do you have to go through Advanced -> IR Codes to contorl your AV Equipment?
