Users / Re: HD Cable Boxes and HDMI

"Trying..."
Ouch, so it doesn't work with the current release I gather.
Composite would be fine, I will post back later to see how you have made out.

In the meantime I will assume it needs to be hooked up to the tuner at the tv. It has an ethernet port, hopefully it can be controlled via a template.

Thanks!

Looking through the wiki, I can not seem to really find anything about hdmi capture cards so I may stream our cable boxes.
Is this possible, any pointers to some docs would be really appreciated!

Thanks!

Users / Re: Controlling Media Devices via Ethernet or RS232
« on: January 19, 2009, 08:48:29 pm »
Appreciate the reply. So if I had 5 tv's for example whose only difference in mac address was the last octet, ab, ac, etc... what kind of issues should I expect?

Thanks!

Users / Controlling Media Devices via Ethernet or RS232

I am heading over to our local AV store to look at what devices they offer w/ eth or rs232 support for a new house so that it will all be controlled with LinuxMCE.
The wiki's section, http://wiki.linuxmce.org/index.php/Have_LinuxMCE_automatically_control_the_TV_and_Stereo suggests it's all automatic but not having any devices like this I am not sure what to expect or choose.

RS232 is obvious and detailed here in http://wiki.linuxmce.org/index.php/AV_Devices
Ethernet has me a bit curious, http://wiki.linuxmce.org/index.php/Plug%26play suggests it correlates by mac address so how does one perform the initial pairing? Do I need to know the mac address before hand?

Finally, does anyone have any reco's for manufactures to look for that have decent ethernet controlled devices?

Thanks!

Well, I got two CD's and as per the wiki, i simply loop mounted and dpkg -i the main deb, which I see placed a link to mce-installer.sh which does nothing for me when i run it?
Any ideas?
Thanks everyone for getting me this far!

The shell script is using a PING to check if the servers are available. ICMP protocol does not work in VirtualBox.

Ok, added ICMP to my pix and all is well upto create-repo.sh, I get this:
Any ideas here, or is this expected as the dvd is not going to be made?
Thanks!

I am running a virtualized instance of Kubuntu on an ESXi server.
I'm intrigued, what tipped you off?

Thanks!

Thanks for this, now I get this output from import-external-files.sh.
I presume this is easy to fix, but I wouldn't know what the correct urls are?
Thanks!

Well I assumed an 'svn update' was needed to pull that in, but I must not be in the right place to do it. How do I get kanadavos' changes?

Thanks!

What is the process to incorporate everyone's changes here in this thread to build with them?
Thanks!

Ok, so moving right along I get to here:
Everything else executed ok, so is this something on my end or another wip issue?
Thanks so much for the guidance!
