The only external sound card i was able to get working was the Sabrent USB-SND8 8-Channel USB 2.0 External 7.1 Sound Box

the sound blaster etc... didnt work at the time and this was a limitation of alsa and not lmce

Yes that is part of your problem your preference file is incorrect,  We are fixing the issue with the preferences file not adapting like it should.

i have a Tevvi S660 DVB-S2 USB, it works with the "linux pack" from http://tevii.com/linux_tevii_ds3000.rar
You must copy the FW from Tevvi to /lib/firmware and then you install the v4l from the packet (ReadMe included)
make && make install and the box work with the vdr.  (thanks to nite_man !)
