Users / While upgrading from 710beta3 to 710 beta4
« on: March 18, 2008, 01:55:29 am »
Ok - I tried to upgrade from a working 710 beta 3 to 710 beta 4. What I have now is a system that only the core will start. After launching LinuxMCE the core start and then it start to generate the skins for the orbitor. I am running a hybrid machine. It completes, then begins to try to start up the other components. The first thing I notice is, can not start orbitor, no skins found. That is followed by failure to start xine, and most of the MD sub system. Any one have a clue how I can get back to sanity?

Any help will be appreciate.

Thanks

Dave

Not sure who the XVMC question is for? But if it not on by default then now. I have determined that the frequency is much lower when one core is turned off via the BIOS but it still locks up - maybe hours.

I am running an Intel dual core and the lockups were very frequent. I am also running a hybrid core. I have determined that the frequency of the lockups goes way down if I turn one of the cores off in the bios. But it still locks up eventually.

Kind of looks like a race condition where there need to be a lock.

Another piece of information. After trying everything that I could think of, I turned off the second CPU/core. Seems to be running fine. If it continues, then it is a locking issue when running SMP.

I have just moved to a brand new box Intel dual core, nvidia 8400 GS 512megs ram and 2 Gigs in the system.
Watching live TV is freezing frequently and running top shows the mythbackend hogging the machine.

Just done a clean install from CD's with beta 3.

Any thoughts?

Thanks

Users / How to configure multiple remotes in 710beta3
« on: January 24, 2008, 05:09:29 pm »
Has anyone determined how to configure multiple remote devices in the lircd.conf file. Under 710 beta3 this file is updated by I believe Spawn_Devices.sh. As a result, the lircd.conf gets modified. Trying to add a second remote to the MD does not seem to work. I need the second set of remote codes in lircd.conf so that commandIR can control my Verizon STB.

Any thoughts comments will be appreciated.

probably - there are some new bi-directional X10 devices but I would have to look to see if they have a light module

I have been using X10 devices since the mid 70's with no major issues. The power phase issue is trivial to over come. Some solution cost more than others. I for example used a cheap capacitor connected between the terminals on an electric stove or electric dryer.

Also with respect to other threads, I use a CM11a with multiple house codes - one for each floor. I have 2 CM11a's but to date have only used on I see no reason why 2 or more can not be used. Just don't program events form 2 cm11A to occur at the same time.

Ultimately I have interest in upgrading to insteon or zwave. But that will be awhile.

Hope this helps.
