466  LinuxMCE / Users / USB-UIRT beta4 i386 - Pretends to Work!!! (Mostly Resolved) on: March 14, 2008, 12:47:08 pm
 Angry
OK. So I downloaded the cd install of beta4. I waited the eternity for it to finish up. After I get up and running, I add in my Dish Network receiver, learn all the appropriate codes, and let Sarah set up my MythTV. OK. So far no issues. Replace the MythtTV_PLayer as described in the wiki, for the fix. Now, I go to watch TV. I try to change the channel, I hit 122 (SciFi) the USB-UIRT blinks 3 times as if it is doing it's bit. The TV pauses briefly, and then..... Nothing happens!

Now I figure I learned the codes incorrectly, so I redo the learning procedure, and try again, and no dice.

I noticed this issue with beta3 DVD install, after installing the beta3 AMD64 DVD, My USB-UIRT works flawlessly. Is this an i386 bug?

Where should I look (logs) to see what is happening? I kind of thought that it was going to do this, but spent the time downloading the i386 version anyways.

I am confuzzled. Any guidance would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks.

Any update on X10 working yet? Just curious, I have been off line waiting for a chance to redo my system with the new motherboard. I am downloading beta4, in the hopes that perhaps my old cm11a-like device will function in the meantime.

I keep watching this post.  Wink

Ah, Ok. That makes more sense. I will wait. Not sure whats required for a Dev environment.
469  LinuxMCE / Users / Re: x10 CM11A support is now fixed! on: February 29, 2008, 05:48:34 pm
 Huh
When I cd to /src/CM11A and run
 make bin
It says
make *** No rule to make target 'bin'.   Stop.

Any particular reason for this. I notice there is no Makefile in the directory.

470  LinuxMCE / Installation issues / Re: Stability Issues with 0710Beta3? Please post here.... on: February 29, 2008, 05:19:38 pm
I solved my mythtv issues by disabling sync to vblank and wiki'd the process
 http://wiki.linuxmce.org/index.php/Nvidia_Card_Tweaks_For_Better_MythTV_and_UI_Performance

This resolved all of my issues. It also helps to run mythfrontend as root in a kde desktop konsole session, and change the Bit Rate, to a lower variable under transcoders default and LiveTV settings.

I have mine set for 4000 and max set to 4500.

This may also help.

 Cheesy
This is great news. Can't wait to get home tonight and try this. My Insteon adapter is still non-functional, but I do have an older IBM Home Director, which is believed to work. I will give this a whirl over the weekend.

Great stuff today!!

Great work everyone!!!
472  LinuxMCE / Installation issues / Re: MOSTLY SOLVED *** USBUIRT -cannot get any remote to work with it on: February 20, 2008, 09:32:02 pm

You can use xev from the kde desktop to identify the keycodes. Then using xmodmap, remap those keys to reflect existing mythtv keys.

A bit of detail on using xev and xmodmap can be found on my wiki entry here : http://wiki.linuxmce.org/index.php/Using_the_Gyration_Remote_GYR3101US_%28Non-Fiire_Chief%29
After you know your keycodes, then using http://dcerouter/mythweb you can identify the mythtv keys, and or change them to your liking.

However you can just use the lmce menu. If you find a good button for it on your new remote, something easy to remember or even a button already named menu, map that keycode to "F7" in your .Xmodmap file, and that will call up the LMCE menu during playback, and enable you to exit the mythtv app, or whatever else you may be viewing.

Hope this helps.  Grin

Here is what I do at home. I have a dish network pvr 522. The primary IR output is hooked up to my core in the living room. The secondary RF output is hooked up to the MD in the family room. Now, If I am recording something on tuner1 on the core, and I go to watch LiveTV on the core, it automatically calls up the tuner on the MD. Also, I have a key prgrammed in mythtv to switch inputs on my remotes. This will automatically draw from whatever card is not in use.

If my daughter is watching PBS in the family room, and I tried this this weekend, by using the "Switch Inputs" fuction on the LMCE menu, I can view her TV on the core. After seeing this happen, it turned off her show, and then automatically changed the channels on the core tuner, to let her continue watching her show.

This also works using the media map feature from the orbiter. So it does work, its just how you go about selecting what to watch on said MD's orbiter, or on a remote orbiter.

The key for switching inputs/cards on mythtv that I use is the "Y" key. It will cycle through all cards attached to mythtv. I have 2 pvr150's and 2 air2pc HD tuners (OTA) using the "Y" key or the "Swtich Inputs" option in the LMCE menu, it cycles through all 4 cards, provided that they are not being used to record something at that time.

You can change your keys using mythweb(http://dcerouter/mythweb/) to use whatever you like, and then map these keys using xmodmap to a remote key. My howto for mapping keys is here http://wiki.linuxmce.org/index.php/Using_the_Gyration_Remote_GYR3101US_%28Non-Fiire_Chief%29 in the wiki, and it works well, without installing any additional software.

I hope this helps. And I look forward to your mce_usb2 howto, so that I can get my mce blaster working on the MD.

Best of Luck.  Smiley

 Shocked

This is excellent news. I have a dish 522 DVR that uses the 301 codeset. Where did you put the lirc.conf file into the template? If i have that peice, my system will be complete. I too was having errors with the learning feature. Omly 1/2 of the number digits would work.  I too used this same conf file you posted the link to, with mythtv, and it worked great. But I am not sure where to put it into the template for Dish DVR 522 that I created.

Please post here, the location, and then there will be 1 more Dish Network template added to the collective.

Thanks again for your great work,

475  LinuxMCE / Installation issues / Re: 7.10 beta 3 wont boot after install (odd problem i think) on: February 12, 2008, 04:34:31 pm
Have you tried switching the video outputs of your card. If the AV wizard is running, then it may be directong to the wrong video card output. You may have to switch outputs, and resolutions using the AV Manager wiki document, the most important part is here:

 Keys for choosing a connector:

 1: DVI
 2: VGA
 3: Component
 4: Composite
 5: S-Video

And for the resolution

 Keys for choosing a resolution:

 6: 640x480
 7: 1024x768
 8: 720p
 9: 1080i
 0: 1080p

I had to use number 5 and number 6 to get it to display properly, from the svideo port on my nvidia card, to my 42" Projection TV.

Hope this helps.

Wink Welcome to my world. I live in the valley at the top of a mountain. No cable here either. My current LMCE setup is:

A Core/Hybrid in the living room with a PVR150 card (dish network) and An Air2PC OTA HD card.
This box captures one of the dish tuner outputs for all regular channels, and the HD card does the local channels in HD.

A MD in the family room with a PVR150 card (dish network) and An Air2PC card for capturing HD local channels.

The Antennas I use are Radio Shack Set Top HD antennas, with remotes. They do quite well. As I am so high up, and there are little to no obstructions from the towers, I get NBC, ABC, CBS, FOX, and PBS with no problem. For the good channels like scifi I use the dish.

The Dish receivers are using USB UIRT's for control.

As portable MD's I have 2 wireless laptops, on the core dhcp server, that can view live SD (dish) content or recorded HD content.

As for the internet, I have WildBlue. It ain't the greatest, but its better than dial-up.

Best of luck, and congrats on the new house, we just built ours 6 months ago, and I helped the contractor every step of the way.

Its nice to get in while new, allows for easy placement of network cabling and such.

Later.
477  LinuxMCE / Feature requests & roadmap / Add support for the IR blaster on the MCE Remote (mce_usb2) on: January 24, 2008, 10:40:36 pm
 Smiley
It would be great if the mce remote receiver's built in ir blasters (mce_usb2) could be utilized in LinuxMCE.
A lot of people have them, and therefore would not need to spend additional $$ on a seperate blaster.
I hear rumors of it working in the latest version (svn) of lirc, but I do not posess the knowledge to get it working outside of kubuntu.

Thanks in advance,

Seth

OK. I ran into the device creation problem as well, with 7.10 beta2. I posted the issue in Mantis, and got a response/fix, and file the very next morning. (Big props to those guys)

The issue number is: 003786

The link to the fix, and the file, as to where to place it is:

http://mantis.linuxmce.org/view.php?id=3786

This resolved the issue instantly, however it never hurts to logout of the admin, do a "Quick Reload" of the router, and then log back into web admin   Smiley

I hope this helps.
