LinuxMCE / Users / Re: USB-UIRT way to go for STB and TV control?

Hi all.
A note here. Not sure who's STB you will choose, but I can speak for Dish Network, and DirecTV if you have more than one receiver.
By default these two STB's are set for remote codeset 1. As all my receivers are in a closet in the basement, I have had to use the factory remotes the Dish receivers came with to set one to default codeset 1, and the other to codeset 2. Now I had to create 2 different device templates, one for each receiver, as if you use a common template for both, and you change your second box to codeset 2, it updates the template for the first box to use codeset 2 as well. So I learned 2 sets of IR commands using the USB-UIRT.
I have a dual-head emitter and I use 2 different codes. One for each box. I have the USB-UIRT with the 56K (dish receiver transmitter) and one dual-head ir blaster plugged into it.
Just something to keep in mind.
Regards,
Seth

LinuxMCE / Users / Re: Using a camera with composite

Hello. I use a wired camera solution that I have about $149 US in. It includes 4 cameras, the necessary wiring. They do quite well in darkness or light. The card I used to hook them up was a Hauppauge ImpactVCB. This card was $50 US. a link: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16815116068The device is not plug-n-play yet, I have been spending far too much time with Android, and neglecting my LMCE duties. However is is set up automatically by my LMCE 10.04 system as to drivers and such. When the core boots up, you can see through DMESG that it has set it up a /dev/videoX entry. Configuring it was simply a matter of running the included BNC cables, this particular variant of the card has BNC connectors, to the four (4) ports and then defining them as motion generic analog cameras. The trick is setting up ports, as well as device. For example my card came in as /dev/video0, bumping my PVR500 card up to /dev/video1, and /dev/video2. So for the motion camera setup, I chose: The camera's I bought cost $100 US for four (4) of them. they were on sale at the time. Linke here: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16881339013they work great and are configured: device 0 - backyard including the back door port 0 (first port on left if you are looking at the back of a standard tower case) device 0 - side yard port 1 (second port from left ) device 0 - front yard including the front door port 2 (third port from left) device 0 - driveway including the garage and garage entrance port 3 (fourth from the left) So if is a card you are looking for, the Hauppauge Impact cards are configured by the system (not plug-n-play yet, will see getting it so with a template and all) and the cost is less than $55 US. It comes in 3 port, 4 port, BNC, and Composite (rca plugs). The cameras are very inexpensive Night Owl's - 4 for less than $200 US. The want to be configured at 320x240 resolution, but LinuxMCE uses them as 640x480 Any tweaks can be made in the /etc/motion directory files. Best regards, Seth

LinuxMCE / Installation issues / Re: 10.04, my WGR614v6 AP wont connect

Hi. I am not sure how this device is connected, but I can say with a Linksys WRT54G, I have disabled the dhcp server on the router. Connected port 1 of the integrated router switch to a port on my "Internal" 16 port gigabit switch. Any device accessing the wireless ESSID ( echo1 ) is automatically assigned an IP address from the core. I required no further configuration. I access the internet through the core, via the "Internal" network on any wireless device connected to the WRT54G. I use it for android tablets and phones, my laptop and netbook, the wife's laptop, as well as my Wii. Hope that helps. Best Regards, Seth

Tkmedia's lmcecompatible.com store has the table-top controllers on sale........ http://lmcecompatible.com/#ecwid:category=748191&mode=product&product=3113853I have 4 of these. One on Living Room Table, One on headboard in Master Bedroom, One in my oldest daughter's room om her night stand, and one by the door as you come in to the house. They are all "Secondary" controllers to the HA09 Handy Remote and the 5th "Secondary" controller is my Core. They have 12 Buttons, ( two banks of six )and can be used as individual lights, individual scenes, or mix and match. Hope that helps give you an idea of what is available, and functional. LinuxMCE / Installation issues / Re: ZWave installation problems

Hi. I believe your remote must be set as the primary controller. This is how I do it. I have a Handy remote Intermatic HA09, several tabletop units Intermatic HA07, and an Aeon Labs USB stick, the one with the blinky blue light. I used the handy remote to learn all of my devices. Then I uploaded those devices into 4 table top controllers, as secondary controllers. After this was completed, I then do the following: A.) Make sure stick is plugged into core B.) Log into the webadmin C.) From the top menus - Advanced > Configuration > Devices D.) Click the "+" sign to expand the Core E.) Click ZWave, it should open it's properties in the right pane F.) At the top of the right pane, click "Send command to device" ( a new window pops up) G.) in the new window.select "Reset" from the drop down ( a note here, this will remove any associated devices Zwave ) - Click Send Message H.) do a reload of the router I.) now repeat C thru F J.) In the new window that pops up, select "Download Configuration" - Click Send Message K.) Put your remote in send mode. This is usually done by holding in "Include" until the lights start blinking and then pressing the Number 2 "On" This should launch Sarah, and you should see that you have added new devices. This way has also worked for me Follow steps C thru G Reload the router Unplug and plug in the Aeon stick Sarah will launch She will show you a video of a table top controller and ask you if you are ready to add your lights. At this point press and hold "Include" for 5 seconds, the lights will blink on remote, then press 2 "On" and click next in the setup wizard. Sarah will download the remotes network information, and then ask you to reload, about 40% of the time. What I do is either way, after the remote stops blinking from the "Send" command, I reload the router, and bingo, all you lights are there. If Sarah succeeds above, she will show you a screen that says "You have X number of lights , would you like to configure them now" or something like it. If you say yes, she will go through all of your lights, and turn them on or off , or Dim to Bright, and let you name them, and add them to a room. My tips here as your mileage may very YMMV Using your remote as a primary controller, add your light geographically from the core out. Write down which ones you added first, i.e. 1. light one - this room 2. light two - that room 3. light three - the other room It will add them in the order you add them to the remote. This will save you from having to run all over your house. I have 30+ devices, over almost 4000 square feet across two stories. Makes life easier. I prefer method 2 , and let Sarah download your remotes configuation. But either way has worked for me. Sarah is just easy, but don't tell her that! LOL Best of Luck to you, I will check back to see your progress. Best Regards, Seth

LinuxMCE / Users / Where are the Asterisk Files?
|
on: May 16, 2012, 06:54:40 pm

I have been playing around lately with the Telecom in LMCE 10.04. I understand now that everything asterisk is stored in a database. However, I would like to know where it is getting it's information from. The problem is, in order for my SIP softphone ( 3CX from the android market ) to work, I have to ensure that the 'host' setting remains set to 'dynamic'. I go in through phpMyadmin, and I can set the field, but something is whacking my settings, and setting them back to 'Null' Where is the script that changes asterisk located, and where are the files like sip.conf and such stored. I looked in /etc/asterisk, but they are not there, and something is filling in the defaults after a period of undisclosed time. I can change it by hand, and it works, but then when I use it later, the SIP phone fails to register, and sure enough, if I go back into the phpMyadmin for asterisk, it is right back to 'Null' I also have a feeling this is why my MD phones are not working. Plus, if I had a sip.conf file, I could get my SPA3102 to register, by adding the appropriate line to it. Thanks in advance. Best Regards, Seth

I use this motherboard as a core:
Core - Basement
NZXT Gamma Black Case - 580 Watt Green 80 power supply Asus M3A78-EM Mother board 1x AMD X2 5000+ Dual core 2.6GHz 2G RAM - OCZ 1x LiteOn DVD-CDRW 1x Seagate 500GB SATA drive (OS Drive) 2x Western Digital 500GB SATA drive (media) 1x Hitachi 1TB SATA (media) 1x Seagate 2TB SATA (media)
I am currently using 10.04 and the ATI card onboard is what is hooked to the monitor in the server room.
Before that I was using a PCIe Nvidia Card I think the 8200 or sometthing. You do have to go into BIOS and set up the onboard devices to use the PCIe slot first. Also, if you are using multiple drives like I am, make sure they are in the correct chained order in the BIOS hard drive setup screen. For some reason, if left to itself the BIOS will not assign the drives based on order of which SATA port it is plugged into. I even had my cables numbered 1 thru 5 using ports 1 thru 5, and it still shuffled them about. But if you go into the BIOS and identify them based on the order you want the system ( and therefore Grub) to see them, manually order the drives. Currently with the almost latest 10.04 install DVD LMCE-1004-20120412224425879.iso, the ATI card is functioning well, but this server sits in a closet in my office, if you intend to use it for your main viewing as well as serving PC, keep using your Nvidia card.
Best Rgeards,
Seth
p.s. If I get a chance this evening, I will post the exact order the graphics choices need to be in, into this post.

Ok Image LMCE-1004-20120412224425879.iso http://linuxmce.iptp.org/snapshots/LMCE-1004-20120412224425879.isoHybrid/Core install works just fine. Very little downloading. about 35 minutes to AV Wizard. Core Only install works as well, however if you have tuners in your core and would like to use them for your MythTV. You have to manually configure using mythtv-setup after the fact: Log into a terminal session: export DISPLAY=:0 startkde May also need to CTRL+ALT+F7 here to see desktop After you get the desktop up, Klick K > Applications > System Settings > mythtv-setup Now the bad news for both methods. Well there is some good to it. The Nvidia based MD and the intel based MD both fired right up. Nvidia - flawless execution intel - when AV Wizard comes up, too big for TV. Solution 1. ssh to core and become user root. 2. Delete /usr/pluto/diskless/XX/etc/X11/xorg.conf ( where XX is the number of your MD ) 3. Return to MD, press key for desired input. 1 = VGA 3 = HDMI Now for the bad news. Nothing downloads. the following will not start after regen: External Media Identifier Mythtv-Player Xine-Player Mplayer-Player Photo-Screen-Saver And it does not install firefox. That is all I can report for now, currently running apt-get update && apt-get upgrade -y on core, following that with /usr/pluto/bin/DisklessCreateTBZ.sh Best Regards Friends, Seth

Nicely done. I just installed the snapshot http://linuxmce.iptp.org/snapshots/LMCE-1004-20120412224425879.isoIn a VirtualBox inside of my Linux Mint 12 workstation here at work. No network as we are restricted behind a proxy. Flawless install. Made the mistake of using UI2 masked on an under-achieving hp workstation. After changing it to UI1, nothing but smooth. I can't wait to try this at home tonight. Now if only there was a way to back up all my IR device settings...... Either way. The above snapshot was perfect. Excellent work. Now I can see if it will build all my little Foxconn Netboxes, with intel, without me fiddling about with xorg.conf files. Also my core is an ATI based graphics chipset. But I was planning on core-only install. Off I go. Home, Supper, Copy all IR codes, Nuke and Pave....... Best Regards, Seth - LMCE DVD install, FTW.....

LinuxMCE / Users / Re: Is this a ZWave mesh problem?
|
on: April 13, 2012, 05:39:16 pm

Hi. Firstly: /me Drools at four floors of Zwave........ Secondly: Do you happen to have a thermostat in your installation? If so, was it added during the intelligent mesh layout, i.e. starting at the core and working out geographically? If not, when was it added, and how far is it from the core? I added a knock off version of the Wayne Dalton version, but, I added it at the end of my chain. As I did not want to unlearn and relearn all of my devices. It worked well for some time, however I started getting messages like what you are, and my timed scenarios stopped firing. Like at sunset, turn on perimeter lighting, and such. What I had to do was in fact delete my zwave devices, reset my Aeon Labs stick, and start from scratch, capturing the thermostat geographically from my core. If you don't have a thermostat, then disregard this mad raving, and go back to the Firstly point, and ignore me Hope you figure it out. Best Regards, Seth

LinuxMCE / Users / Re: Strange behavior of the "Live TV" function with 10.04
|
on: April 11, 2012, 08:51:42 pm
|
|
@ JaseP
No. the LiveTV devices are separate from MythTV. That is why the wife using MythTV on tuner 1 to watch something was the initial issue.
My system is as follows:
2 Dish receivers 2 PVR inputs ( svideo, white, red )
Now. the above resources are used for two different functions.
Function 1: First choices in setup menu After creating the SAT-1 and SAT-2 AV devices, you go through the setup wizard. Those devices show up as AV equipment on that screen. The next screen is the Input screen. There I have listed: svideo PVR500 card 1 svideo PVR500 card 2 as well as the Composite ( yellow wire ) and the coax
I choose the first svideo PVR500 card 1 and connect it to SAT-1 and make it available to all MD's then i choose the second svideo PVR500 card 2 and connect it to SAT-2 and make it available to all MD's.
Once this part is completed, If I were to exit the wizard, Media menu Items would be generated for: LiveTV SAT-1 LiveTV SAT-2
This is completely separate from MythTV.
Function 2 - second choices in setup menu Now if I were to continue the setup wizard past the above point, then the next windows would ask me for the PVR information. Here I choose: SAT-1 controlled by USB-UIRT core for the first tuner it sees SAT-2 controlled by USB-UIRT core for the second tuner it sees.
Now both the live, non time-shifted SAT-1/2 feeds have an entry and I can also use the TV option and get access to time-shifted SAT-1/2.
My problem was, If I was watching LiveTV SAT-1, and the wife fired up MythTV, my screen would go away, and she would take SAT-1 away from me, or rather MythTV would.
The two are not connected.
My issue was SAT-2 pipes were not complete, so LiveTV SAT-2 was just producing a black screen, no audio/video, not unlike if MythTV were to take over that tuner card.
And that in the end fixed me up.
If I remember tonight, I will take a screenshot of my Media Menus, and show you what I am referring to.
Best Regards,
Seth

LinuxMCE / Users / Re: Strange behavior of the "Live TV" function with 10.04
|
on: April 11, 2012, 06:20:33 pm

Update. By changing the pipes on device #100, I now have streaming to LiveTV SAT -2. Was a simple thing to resolve. Sometimes I think too hard when it comes to figuring this system out. @JaseP, When a tuner is detected, in my case I have 2 cards, well, one PVR500 which shows up as 2 PVR150s, when you go through initial Sarah time, you can assign receivers to different inputs on any identified cards. When you do this, Sarah creates a "LiveTV < insert name of device >" for each instance. So after I added my Dish Network receivers, controlled by USB-UIRT on Core, during the setup wizard, when she says "Are there any pieces of AV equipment you wish to use" or something like that, I assign receiver 1 to the first card in my system, and receiver 2 to the second. This causes her to generate a media scenario for a particular MD or, if you click the button to make it available to all MDs, a scenario for each on every MD Media menu. The system however also asks if you want to use them for PVR. So she also rolls them into MythTV or VDR. So not only do you have the TV option on the media menu, but also an option for every piece of AV equipment you define during setup. If that helps clear things up. Thanks again for making me stop thinking so hard golgoj4. Best regards to All, Seth
