Thanks for the updates. I have recently downloaded the Android SDK, to work on some UI enhancements for home screen replacements. Maybe now that the summer rolls into fall, my family will keep me less busy. I can take a look at making a native orbiter. The new scrolling functions, and simplified button layout of the new iOS orbiter, is a refreshing piece of work. I would love to use the same common-sense layout on my Android tablets, and phones.

I will see about charging my old iPhone up, to use and get a feel for iOS orbiter, and perhaps use it to inspire an Android version.

Best Regards, Fantastic Work,

Seth

Greetings all.

One of users has already implemented blue tooth support for firing events. He is using the family cell phones as identifiers.
Perhaps something in his trials can be of some assistance. I know on a previous install. I had my cell phone turning on my office lights, down in the basement, and then turning them off after I left the room.

What. No Android Love.

Looks fantastic. Wonder if I can use my old iPhone 3G as an orbiter only device? Have to give it a try. Should act like an iPod.

Best Regards.

I wiki'd this a while back, when I was still using X10.

see my post here : http://wiki.linuxmce.org/index.php/Using_Respond_To_Events

This worked well for me at the time. I have since switched to Zwave. But the instructions should get you what you want.

Feature requests & roadmap / Re: easi (er) method for post reinstall ?

I can recommend using Clonezilla on a USB external disk. Take a snapshot of the bnefore, and then if it gets hosed, it only takes minutes to restore. I have an old 100G laptop hardrive inone of those little $15 USB enclosures, installed the Clonezilla iso to it, and then set the rest of the drive up for storage.

I use Clonezilla, unetbootin.

Before every major update/install, I take a snapshot/backup  of the non-hosed version. Gets you back up and running in 20 minutes or less  ;D

Seth

Ask and you shall receive. I use GnEeErKd's tutorial, and it will do everything that you could want, and you could even do more respectively.

He has it all laid out there for you.

Welcome, and glad to have you.

Users / Re: Adding boot options for a specific MD
« on: April 30, 2010, 06:19:07 pm »
Hello,

To do this you must append the noapic command to the kernel line for the particular md.

You will need to be root on the core

Code: [Select]
sudo su -
You will also need to know the MAC address of the MD in question. You can either view this on the Media Directors page in the web admin, or by running:

Code: [Select]
ifconfig | grep HWaddr
Once you have this info, edit the config file located here :

Code: [Select]
cd /tftpboot/pxelinux.cfg
You should see a text file, or config file for your MD's MAC address.
use your favorite editor, I prefer vi:

Code: [Select]
vi MAC:ADDRESS:OF:YOUR:MD
Find this line:

Code: [Select]
APPEND initrd=70/initrd.img quiet splash ramdisk=10240 rw root=/dev/nfs boot=nfs nfsroot=192.168.80.1:/usr/pluto/diskless/YOUR MD NUMBER
And add it before the ramdisk entry.
Save the file, and reboot the MD.

That should sort it for you.

Seth

Users / Re: What power supply do you use for your miniITX ION atom boards?

I use this case on my new Zotac ION Nvidia MD:

http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16811154091&nm_mc=TEMC-RMA-Approvel&cm_mmc=TEMC-RMA-Approvel-_-Content-_-text-_-

It is almost completely silent, and stock with this case.

Make for a very nice MD.

Users / Re: How stable is 8.10?
« on: February 01, 2010, 05:12:40 am »
Hello,

My 810 core is solid. My MD's run about 12 hrs a day each. Either watching MythTV, or videos/movies.

I have recently had some issues with my CM11A. I will squash those bugs as soon as I get some free time. It used to work flawlessly, after I installed 810. I think the hardware may be failing.

Oherwise, this new 810 has been rock solid. Many, many improvements. Highly recommended.

Give it a shot. You won't be disappointed.

Users / Anyone Have Insteon Working in 810 yet??

Hi all,

I was just wondering if anyone had Insteon working since they have installed 810 alpha or beta?

Please post here if you have it working, and any special steps to get it going. I am going to give it one more try before I switch to Zwave.

Thanks,

Seth

Then have a look here

and here

and see if that sorts it out.

Hey all,

Been a while since I have posted. But after this latest update, I needed to compare notes. I have updated all my MD's and he core to the latest fixes. Now all my MD's seem to be happy with the updates. Great things have happened. Storage groups work, excellent. However I have notice an issue.

My DirecTV boxes are controlled by the core with a USB-UIRT, and they are hooked into a PVR 500 and daughter card. Now the issue I am having is this:

I lose the orbiter on the core. I go downstairs to the wiring closet and all I see is the mouse cursor. Thinking it is asleep, I click, but the Main Orbiter screen does not come back. Only after repeated mashing on the F1, F2, and F7 keys does it come back, but then after time it goes away. Since there is no orbiter, my USB-UIRT can not change the channels. So I reboot the core, and for a while it comes back, but then after time it goes away again.

Now watching it reboot, I see it come up like it is supposed to, but I notice the orbiter and all the device loads once, then it loads itself again. I am wondering if something is calling it twice in the beginning. And if so, what?

This is what ps -ef shows:
Code: [Select]
seth@dcerouter:~$ ps -ef | grep Orbiter
seth      8425 26341  0 08:50 pts/9    00:00:00 grep Orbiter

root     30807 30805  0 06:04 pts/27   00:00:00 /bin/bash /usr/pluto/bin/Spawn_Device.sh 21 localhost LaunchOrbiter.sh

root     30948 30902  0 06:04 pts/27   00:01:39 ./Orbiter -d 21 -r localhost -l /var/log/pluto/21_LaunchOrbiter.sh.log

This is a bit from the log:

Code: [Select]

And if it is calling it twice, is this normal, and if not, where do I modify it to not do so.

Seth

Installation issues / Re: learning pronto ir codes with USB UIRT
« on: June 23, 2009, 03:25:28 pm »
Hello.

First question I have for you is which version of LMCE are you running. If it is 710, the USB-UIRT is broken for x86, and an updated driver needs to be downloaded from here:

http://wiki.linuxmce.org/index.php/USB-UIRT_x86_Fix

If this is the case, then after following that wiki you should be squared away.

If it is not, or you are running the x86_64 version of lmce (known to work out of the box) or the alpha (not sure of its status here), then I would look at which direction the front  of the device is facing. While powerful, the emitter on the usb-uirt can be blocked by line of site issues.

Hope that helps out.

Best Regards,

Seth

Users / Orbiter Custom BackGrounds?
« on: June 18, 2009, 07:06:57 pm »
Hey all,

I was recently creating a new orbiter with the wizard, and noticed the "CustomBG" button. So i figured I would try it out, and added a nice little image to my weborbiter.
The only question I have is, What does it do? I did a full regen on my weborbiter, and loaded it up here t work, and it looks no different than before. I went back to the button in the webadmin, and I see my image is there. But what does it do?

Just a stupid question for the day.

Regards,

Seth
