Hi all. Over the weekend, I installed a fresh copy of 710 RC2. I added my media drive back into the mix, and all my shows show up in the LMCE Video menu, as if it never happened. However, when launching the MythTV viewer, I do not see my recordings. I can remember in my Knoppmyth days, that there was a script included, that would rebuild/repopulate your mythtv menu after a fresh install. I think it was called mythrebuilddb.pl I was wondering if this script could be run in LMCE. It uses the same database as pure MythTV, mythconverg, but I was wondering if any of the LMCE/MythTV gurus, would have any insight as to whether or not this would still work. I am not sure how interwoven if at all the mythconverg db is with the pluto_main db.

Any ideas would be great. I have yet to find the script on the internet, but I have a Knoppmyth disc at home, and I could install that on a test box, and get the file. If I am not mistaken, the mythbuntu cd I have would probably have the file as well.

On another note, if there are any mysql guru's out there, perhaps you may know of a different way to re-import the data into the mythconverg db?

Thanks in advance,

Regards,

Seth

I'd bet powering down the mythbuntu box, they may re-appear. Looks as though there is some mythbackend issues that aren't getting worked out. Give that a try.

What exactly have you tried? What kind of video card, and connected to what type of viewing source? (TV, monitor, projector, etc..)

Have you looked at the AV wizard bit in the wiki? http://wiki.linuxmce.org/index.php/AVWizard

A little more information would be great!  ;)

Sounds like the AV Wizard (the next step after the first boot) is going to a different output. Read here for using the AV Wizard: http://wiki.linuxmce.org/index.php/AVWizard. You probably have to press 1 or 2 on your keyboard, then follow the on screen instructions. However your Nvidia card being of the 5xxx breed raises some concern. I personally only have experience with 6xxx and 7xxx as they are the supported chipsets for Nvidia currently. But the first step would be to run the AV Wizard and let it work its magic.

Hope this helps, Welcome aboard!!

Installation issues / Re: [SOLVED] USB UIRT not sending commands

So to understand, this fixes the issue of the USB-UIRT not being able to transmit w/out IR Dongles? I know 64 bit will transmit with just the USB-UIRT itself, but since 704, you needed IR Dongles to transmit using the 32bit LMCE.

So is this the fix? If so, excellent!!!

Well in your case, as all your tuners are on the core, then you should see them in tv_shows_1. Your recordings should be available already to every media director. You should not need to force anything. Mine vary by moon, because all my MD's have tuners. If they were all to reside in the same machine, the all recordings should go to tv_shows_1. And that folder you can mount to any other drive/directory structure, just make sure you have the path set to the new location in mythtv-setup.

I have 4 stb's and they all have a LiveTV<stbname> entry, and they are all visible to every MD. It would be worth looking into the mythtv recording settings, to see if you can assign a recording to a particular MD, and that would turn point the recording to a different directory. I have not tested this though, so it would merely be a guess.

As to the need to force recordings to a specific directory, if you have all your tuners in one box, that should not be necessary. All MD's capable of playing video/mythtv will be able to see them, either through the provided "Video" button in the LMCE menu, or by choosing recordings from the LMCE menu while viewing TV (mythtv). This is how I prefer to do it, as I commflag all my recordings, and watching them back through the mythtv interface, in my case, allows for automgic commercial skipping (you have to enable this on each mythtv frontend, via the setup options inside mythtv) and it is not as cpu intensive as using the xine_player to view the recordings.

And pointing the mythtv-setups to that mounted large drive, is basically exactly what I do, so it should work fine.

Recording groups are a feature of mythtv .21 or higher. We use mythtv 20.2 fixes if I am not mistaken. So the use of storage groups is not implemented. If this is a feature you want , perhaps checkout the new version of MythBuntu www.mythbuntu.org. However, as LMCE is a linux based system, you could mount another drive to the /home/public/data/videos/tv_shows_1 directory in you /etc/fstab file. This is what I do with a 500GB drive.

As to seeing multiple tv_shows directories, this is for the use of multiple tuners. In my installation I have 4 tuners, they show up as /home/public/data/videos/tv_shows_<moon number> for example at my place it is
Code: [Select]
/home/public/data/videos/tv_shows_1  is linked to the tuner in my core
Code: [Select]
/home/public/data/videos/tv_shows_42 is linked to the pvr150 in my MD moon42
Code: [Select]
/home/public/data/videos/tv_shows_86 is linked to the pvr150 in my MD moon86
Code: [Select]
/home/public/data/videos/tv_shows_96 is linked to the Aver Media card in my MD moon96These are identified by the mythtv-setup per MD. I have them mounted as follows:
Code: [Select]
/dev/sdb1 /home/public/data/videos/mythtv/ ext3 defaults 0 1  for my 500G drive on dcerouter
And the directory structure on this drive contains the folders:
Code: [Select]
tv_shows_1 tv_shows_42 tv_shows_86 tv_shows_96
And of course I made the changes to mythtv-setup on each MD to reflect the directory structure:

Code: [Select]
/home/public/data/videos/mythtv/tv_shows_1
And so on......

So you can use different drives, for mythtv storage. However you can not share groups like you can with the newer versions of mythtv. But I am sure in the future, with the level of developers we have, it will be a possibility.

Seth

I think LMCE can be a candidate. I use this for playing the same song in all rooms, or different songs in different rooms.
All that would be required is to have a Media Director (MD) in each of the rooms you wish to have sound. These can be connected to TV's or to stereo systems. LMCE controls things through pipes. You set these up in the connection manager. In my home I have a core/hybrid in the living room or theater room. I also have a MD in the family room, and in each of the bedrooms. Now the core system, runs it all. Every other computer in the house is hooked up to a TV. To play movies/videos in the living room, it naturally uses my AV Theater receiver. In each of the other rooms, it uses the TV speakers.

Now because of the pipes I have set up, the theater room volume is controlled via the AV receiver. In each of the other rooms the sound volume is controlled by the TV speakers. This will most likely be the default setting, but by using the connection manager (example of my living room here http://dataless.jeromenet.org/lmce-stuff/connmangr.PNG my video output from the lmce is connected to the TV, the audio output from the lmce is connected to the AV Receiver.

Unlike my MD's which have both the video and audio output of the lmce connected to the TV's.

If you decide to use computer speakers or whatever for your other rooms, a pipe will need to be connected to the amplifier if you use a stereo system, however if you use PC speakers, no pipe is required. LMCE will automatically control the PC sound.

In my situation, I can fire off the same music to all MD's at once, or individually. But each room has its own volume control, so it can be adjusted locally.

I hope this helps a bit. I know LMCE can handle multi-room audio, and video, and a host of other things. Most of the individual controls can be configured with the connection manager, however, using an orbiter on any of the MD's or the main system, or your phone or laptop, you can from a single location control the volume in any room. This helps when my daughter is blasting her audio in her bedroom, and I don't want to hear it in the other parts of the house, I just call up her room on any orbiter, and turn it down myself :)

You will find that LMCE is the most advanced, and heck, the coolest system you will every install, and although daunting at first, can be configured quite easily.

Help Wanted / Re: TV Card selection

I recommend Hauppagge cards. If you have a single TV viewing need, the PVR150MCE (Usually comes with a nice remote, plug and play with LMCE) or for recording one thing while watching another, the PVR500MCE, as it has dual tuners.

Both cards are plug and play with LMCE, and will work for you out of the box. Both MCE versions of the card can be had with the MCE remote, and receiver/blaster. Again, plug and play.

Users / Re: 4250 HDC Cable box and pvr-150
« on: May 28, 2008, 07:55:47 pm »
The pvr150 won't show up in the connections wizard, just the core, the tv (or other viewing device) and the cable box. Once the video and audio pipes are drawn for the cable box to the core, you should be set. The channel change script is :
Code: [Select]
/usr/pluto/bin/TuneToChannel.shand takes the form of :
Code: [Select]
TuneToChannel.sh <device to be controlled> <Media Room>For an example if your cable box is device #51 and the viewing area is the first room in your rooms list (mine is the living room) is #1 then the format would be:
Code: [Select]
/usr/pluto/bin/TuneToChannel.sh 51 1This is what you would put in mythtv-setup under channel change script.

Hope that helps, I will verify this tonight and post back if there are any changes.

Installation issues / Re: downloading Kubuntu 710 ISO's

I am not sure of your installation requirements, but the dvd iso images are prebuilt with Kubuntu 710. The drawbacks to this type of install, is that it will wipe your entire HDD. But the benefits are a very easy, and fast install (like 20 minutes) vs. the 1-1/2 to 2hr install via the cd's.

I have done this both ways, and I prefer the DVD install over the CD install. If you are concerned about disk space, slap a 30 or 40G disk in there, and use the DVD. If not, then just use the DVD. You will find that the install is much less painless, and you can be experiencing all that is LMCE in much less time.

Just my 2 cents  ;D

On a side note, when you set up the pvr card in LMCE setup wizard, which port did you tell it the cable box as connected to?

This can be viewed by looking at providers in mythtv-setup. If you have it hooked to the composite or yellow port for video, the provider portion must be set to composite or composite:1 I had a similar experince while setting up an MD that it was using the coax jack in the provider section, a quick change to composite, resolved the issue. But to make it stick, you will have to run setup wizard again, and select the composite port, vs. the antenna port.

Just an idea as to where to look.

I noticed this as well. Using UI2 w/masking, my menu's became non-responsive. I changed back to UI2 Alpha Blending, and the issue went away completely. When I get home this evening, I am going to try removing "UseEvents" "True" to "False" and see if I get the same result. My alpha blended UI works exceptionally well, however, I noticed yesterday while playing some music, that it is very hard to see the track titles and such. This is what made me switch back to UI2 Masked. But I cannot handle the delay and latency of masked. It is much smoother and cleaner transition while using UI2 Alpha.

Just my experience.

IR Blaster Dongles are small IR led's attached to a wire to better position them in front of the device to be controlled for improved performance and accuracy. An example is on like in the link below:
