Users / Other Media Centers
« on: October 03, 2008, 08:37:18 pm »
Greetings,

I've been using LMCE for about a year and the developers have done a great job so far.  But there are a few features I HAVE to have to make it useful.  1.  Ease of use creating playlists, (ability to queue files, not have start at the beginning after every entry). 2. Cover art should be able to find at least 90%, (amarok can do with the same files).  3.  Touch screen compatabilty with UI2. 4. Netlix tie in. 5. It also just needs to work.  I find myself constantly babying it and tweaking things to make it function.  The claim that no linux knowledge is a bit false to truly run LMCE.

So, I'm forced to use something other than LMCE for now.  Does anyone have any suggestions or recommendation?  The only other media center software I know of is Windows.  I'm not against that either and don't care about cost.  I've invested to much in hardware at this point so I really need something reliable and fully functional.

Thank you.

Users / Touchscreens
« on: September 11, 2008, 09:46:46 pm »
Greetings,

I'm looking for some touchscreen suggestions/options.  (Yes, I've searched the forums)
I'm looking for info on what kind work well and how to set them up.  Are there touch screen remotes that can used in some form?
I've also seen posts on using windows and running the orbiter on there.  Does that work well?

All suggestions and info welcome.

Thank you.

Users / Change MythTV recording location
« on: June 28, 2008, 02:56:06 am »
Greetings,

Could someone tell me how I can change the location of the mythtv recordings?  It's filling up my drive and would like to redirect to a larger one.  I can't seem to find it anywhere.

Thank you.

Users / Log files, oops
« on: April 13, 2008, 11:29:21 pm »
Hello,

I messed up and accidentally deleted the contents of the /var/log folder including the folders inside it.  Now apache didn't want to start because the /var/log/apach2 folder was missing.  Could someone be so kind to tell me what the contents of their /var/log folder is so I could re-created the folder I deleted.

Thank you.

Installation issues / Additional Drive
« on: April 08, 2008, 04:09:07 am »
Hello,

I'm trying to add a drive to my LMCE system and would like to use it just to store media.  My system detetected it, I told it to use it and said to use LMCE's directory structure.  I can see a couple directories that were auto created.  My question is how do I get media to it (I don't see it via the samba share), and how to I get LMCE to use media on that drive instead of the default?

Thank you.

Anyone do a successful beta3 to beta4 upgrade (64bit)?
If so, did you use the DVD or CD's?

Thank you.

Users / Updates / Schedules Direct
« on: January 30, 2008, 01:36:06 am »
It looks like an updated is needed to get schedules direct to work.  But I can't seem to get any updates to apply, or I have a different issue.

I have ran these commands per the forums for a manual update.

cd /usr/pluto/bin
sudo ./LMCEUpdate_DownloadXml.sh
sudo ./LMCEUpdate
(takes some time, but when complete...)
sudo ./LMCEUpdate_Apply.sh

Nothing seems to happen when any of them are entered.   How can I tell if I have the lastest updates, or how can I troubleshoot Schedules Direct.  It pulls down my lineup in the MythTV setup so I'm pretty sure I have I it setup right.
(Running 710B3 64Bit)

Thank you.

Users / wmv files on 64bit
« on: January 28, 2008, 07:53:48 pm »
Probably a dumb question but wanted to verify before I messed anything up.

Per the wiki http://wiki.linuxmce.org/index.php/Restricted_Software_Installation_Guide

w32codecs needs to be installed for wmv, wma and realplayer formats.  Would this be what I'm looking for for the 64 bit version?

Installation issues / Orbiter failed to initialize OpenGL - 8400 GS
« on: January 25, 2008, 10:26:02 pm »
Hello,

I had an nvidia 6200 PCI card working great with UI2 but could not get HD as it was a PCI card.  I replaced it with nividia 8400 GS PCI express and now I'm having driver issues.
I followed this to get the driver installed.
http://wiki.linuxmce.com/index.php/Display_Drivers
And it appeared to go OK and I can successfully run the AVWizard now.  However I can only launch UI1 successfully.  If I select UI2 I get the "Orbiter failed to initialize OpenGL"

I'm suspecting my xorg.conf if not correct but not sure how to fix it,  can anyone give me some advice. Here is my xorg.conf
I also tried the envy suggestion but that fails at install due to dependencies.

Users / DVDCSS issue, can't play DVDs
« on: January 25, 2008, 05:01:14 am »
Hello,

I am unable to play/rip some DVDs, sounds like the encrypted ones bases on what I've found.  I will recieve this error soon after I put a DVD in.
Cannot read DVD. disk is unreadable or DVDCSS Library is not installed.

I am running 710B3 Athlon64.  I could play and rip these same DVDs on a different box running 710B3 i386.  Is there something extra I need to do to get this to work?

Thank you.

Users / Minimum Processor?
« on: January 23, 2008, 06:54:12 pm »
Hello,

Apparently my Athlon XP 1.2 GHz processor doesn't have enough juice to watch digital TV smoothly.   Can some of you list your processor speeds that are successfully playing HD TV.  I'd like to get a feel on what is actually required for smooth performance. Not sure if it matters but I'm using HDHomeRun for my TV source.

I can cheaply upgrade my processor to 2 Ghz Athlon XP,  does anyone know if that would be sufficient?  or am I looking at a new PC purchase  :'(

Thank you.

Installation issues / Chopy TV - High CPU utilization
« on: January 23, 2008, 02:11:02 am »
I hope my PC isn't underpowered.

I just got my HDHomerun and I'm getting very choppy TV and audio through my LMCE box, works fine through Windows and VLC.   When trying to watching TV it's very choppy.  If I display the "top" command from a command line on my LMCE box mythfrontend.re is chewing up a steady 64% utilization.

My PC is an 1.2 GHz Athlon with 1 Gig of memory.  Is this not enough horspower?  or is there something else wrong?

Thank you.

Installation issues / 710b3 upgrade - a few questions
« on: January 22, 2008, 04:37:27 pm »
Hello,

I'm trying to update from 704 to 710b3.  It appears the recommended way is to boot off the DVD and to upgrade.  The problem is the only way I can seem to get the DVD download is via the painfully slowwwwwwwwwwwww bittorent that can take days.

I have tried the helper-app to upgrade via the web, it apears to have upgraded my ubuntu to 710 but not LMCE.
I have also downloaded the two 710b3 CD's, but they are not bootable.  They apear to have the debian install package, so I installed that which creates the shortcut on my KDE desktop.  I launch that,  the upgrade starts,  then disapears.  No errors, not even when the script is ran from a command line.

A few questions:
Is there anywhere I can download the DVD without a bittorent?
Is there a way to install off the CD's, or a log file with a possible error I could look into?
What is the difference between these two dowload options? (Can I upgrade from either)

    http://thepiratebay.org/tor/3980074 - LinuxMCE Install/Upgrade DVD for I386 - 0710 Beta 3

It apears I may be able to download the DVD from here.

The file names end in iso_part001 and iso_part002.  Are those split files, if so how do I get them back together?

Thank you.

Thank you.

Users / Can't Play High Def video
« on: January 20, 2008, 09:06:13 pm »
I've downloaded a couple video clips that in High Def (720p)  But they don't seem to play, I can get audio and a scrambled picture but that's it.

Is there any extra configuration I need to do to play high def?
