Installation issues / Re: Black screen after installation is finished

Not seeing the Splash screen and long boot up times is an issue with Kubuntu 7.10 for some people. If anyone is experiencing long boot up times and missing the splash screen, see this post:

Nice... I ran it yesterday. Looked good from my first viewing. I will play around with it later and provide you with any feedback.

roy,

It doesn't look like the attribute type run time is used for any media in the file attribute table. I would like to get the apprx runtime of a media file.

Does anyone know if there is a field somewhere in a LMCE table that has the duration of a related media file? Basiclly a field that says media X is xx:xx:xx in duration.

I didn't see ay field as such in pluto_media.

thanks

is the newest version of linuxmce more stable than the last? I have 7.04.. should I upgrade it?

In general released versions of software tend to be more stable (tested) than beta versions, which is every version of LMCE since 7.04. There are new features and a lot of bug fixes in the beta versions. The last beta (4) is the most stable of them all. I think most people try out the beta to see what is new and if a bug that irritated the hell out of them in a previous version has been fixed. Trying out the beta is a win-win for you and the community. You might find out that you have specific problems with the beta that can possibly be addressed before the actual release.

As far as I know,, none of the beta version will allow you to play divx files directly off a disc. I believe there are some topics in this forum on that subject that go into more detail.

Ben,

Do you have another optical drive that you can try instead of the one you are currently using?

Using the media_plugin worked like a charm, so I guess using a plugin instead of the actual device is usually the way to go.

thanks all

Darren,

I sent a play media command to the xine_player via the admin website. The media plays, but the window is very small (not full screen) and I can't control the media playback with my remote. Also the photo screen saver still plays. This is the message I got from the admin webpage dialog:

Message Sent succesfully.
/usr/pluto/bin/MessageSend localhost 0 22 1 37 29 "5" 41 "1001" 42 "0" 59 "/home/public/data/other/Windows Share: E [100]/test.avi"
Response was:

Developers / Play Media from command line
« on: March 25, 2008, 12:02:12 am »
I'm trying to mimic a command sequence that begins when I play a media file with my remote. My goal is to start a movie from the command line and be able to interface with it as if I started the movie in the orbiter. I ran TailDCERouter.sh to see the sequence of DCE commands once I play a file with my remote. I then took those commands and tried to mimic them the best I could.

When I run the script below, I get the movie to play, but it is hidden behind the screen saver. If I hit the back button on my remote, I can see the movie, but if I navigate anywhere from there I lose the video. I can still hear the movie playing in the background. Can someone point me in the right direction to fix my problem.

Device ID:      Description:
147               MCE Remote

22                 xine player
23                 xine plugin
10                 media plugin
28                 screen saver

thanks

I think this is something that can be useful. You should be able to multitask with a home automation system like LMCE.

Does anyone know if you have to have Xine installed on a Windows machine in order to watch media within the Windows orbiter?

thanks

What does your network setup look like? Is the core setup to be the DHCP server for your network. If there is another DHCP server on your network that can cause that message you are seeing.

You could create a script that launches mozilla firefox. I'm sure that you can pass it a URL to open upon start. You would have to create this script and then add it as a New Computing App. The script itself would be very simple, but adding it to the computing apps would take a little effort. There is a page on the wiki on how to add a computing app.

As far as I know there is no way to add some type of widget or shortcut to the main interface. You will have to take the additional step of opening the computing apps menu and then selecting which application you would like to start.

If this is a fresh install try linuxmce for both username and password.

Yes, using LMCE's directory structure seems like the only way to be able to use the filters correctly for now. I submitted a bug report for this issue. If this is reported as intentional via the bug report, then I will submit a feature request.
