You don't need to update libdvdcss. It decrypts them well. It is a ripper that is failing. Different program, different place.

I'm yet again confused.  What do you mean "ripper"?  What exactly do I need to look for as a seemless solution?

Does anyone know how likely it will be for someone to update libdvdcss to handle decrypting newer discs?

I searched for it online, but never found any mention of a new version coming out.

If there's no hope of an update, I'll have to scrap LMCE all together and I'd like to know before investing anymore time or money into it.

Thanks

I've got a Fiire Engine running 0710B4 and it seems to run well.

I also have one each of the 3 Fiire Stations and I'm getting an error that a device didn't start properly whenever I boot them.  They continue to come up but when I go to the add software screen to add DVD CSS on the MD, it's blank.  I have the bars that would normally have the name of the software to install but no text inside them and they are unresponsive when I click on them.

I haven't looked into a fix at all yet.

I'm having the same issue as well.  Contacting Fiire yielded a response of "0710 is beta and not stable".

If anybody smarter than me (just about everybody) comes up with a solution I would love you long time.

Users / Fiire Station Audio Problem
« on: March 21, 2008, 09:24:26 pm »
OK, I've got a couple of Fiire Stations and they setup fine except there is no audio out of the L/R RCA jacks.

I'm selecting "Analog Stereo" in the AV Wizard, I've tested the inputs on the TV I'm using and I can get audio from a DVD player so I know there's no problem there.  It seems the FS just isn't putting audio out.

I spent 2 hours with Fiire on their chat and was left with "I have to research it".  I've been told that before and never got a response.

Has anybody setup the Fiire Stations using the analog RCA jacks for audio and how did you make it work?

Thanks

Thanks for the reply, I did see that post and I am able to use a similar method to rip dvd's on my Windows box then copy them to my Core.

I was hoping there might be a solution to fix the DVD rip function in LMCE.  I've been touting this system to many friends and things like this would be beyond their ability.

Does anyone know if there's a fix or modification I can make to the Core to get by this?

Finally got my core and 2 MD's running great!  (Ultimately involved installing 0704 then upgrading to 0710B4 then removing devices and redetecting them, but that's another story)

Anyway, I'm now ripping DVD's to the core and some of them fail.  I notice that it only occurs on newer movies and I've seen a reference somewhere to dummy sectors as a ripping protection method on some DVD's.

Is that the case and is there a way around it?

Users / Wireless Keyboard/Trackball(or Touchpad)

I'm looking for suggestions on a good wireless keyboard/trackball(or touchpad) all in one type thing.  There are a million of them out there and I don't see any specific models listed on hardware wiki.

Anybody using one or know of one that works well with LMCE?  I only want it for browsing the web, I have a Fiire remote for all other functions.

Thank you, that cleared it right up for me.

OK, giving certain people the benefit of the doubt about my possible lack of effort, I believe I have exhausted every possible resource in trying to figure this out.

To Recap:
What I want to do is be able to sit at one computer or MD and be able to see what is currently playing on other MD's.  I don't think I was clear enough in the original post when I say "see", I mean actually view the media.  I see where I can choose the MD at the bottom of the orbiter screen but it doesn't actually show me the media.  Yes, it tells me via the remote the name of the media that's playing, but I want to actually see the video as if I were looking at the MD in question.

Before anybody calls me "lazy" again, I've searched the Wiki, this Forum, and the internet at large exhaustively with no success.  I've tried every possible setting/configuration on the core and on my PC (acting as a remote orbiter) that seems relevant to what I'm trying to do and I have had no success.

Is what I'm trying to do possible?

Users / Not a complaint, just curious.

As the title states, I'm not complaining, I'm just curious as to the reason.

How come the Fiire hardware drivers aren't included in the LMCE distribution?  It seems to me that since these boxes are specifically designed for LMCE that it would be a given that they'd be included.  I also realize that when you get a Fiire engine they give you a copy of LMCE with the drivers, but in my case for instance, I need to go to 0710 for some of the fixes and now I have to install 0710 then manually copy the Fiire drivers to the core everytime.

I was just curious why they're not already a part of the downloaded OS.

Thanks

Users / Network Configuration Question
« on: March 14, 2008, 05:56:26 pm »
How do I open the external interface on the core for file sharing?

My core is on our internal network.  I have the external interface obtaining an address from our router and the internal interface connected to an independant switch that all the MD's are connected to.

External IP:  192.168.1.66 (Which is the subnet that our internal workstations are connected to.)
Internal IP:  192.168.80.1  (The subnet all MD's are on.)

I want to be able to browse the public share from the workstations on the 192.168.1.xx subnet, however being the External interface of the Core, it seems to be blocking this traffic.  How do I open that up?  I'm not concerned about security as our perimeter firewall then the internal router are protecting the Core from outside traffic.

Thanks

What a rediculous question.

Why don't you install the system and try a few things out yourself if you're planning to make money off it, or is that to much effort?

A: Was that comment necessary?  I was under the impression that these forums are where you go for assistance.

B: I have the system installed (note my reference to trying scenarios), yet I still needed some help.  I guess I'm a terrible person.

C: Try to remember that not everyone here is a Linux guru, I've stated in previous posts that I'm a Windows guy and have little to no working knowledge of Linux and I'm sure there are others like me.  But the LinuxMCE system seems to offer many features that we can't find in another integrated system so here I am giving it a shot.  Doin the best I can with the aid of the people of this community, with a few exceptions.

You sig says "Needs to work for LinuxMCE".  I'm curious as to what capacity you'd like to work, it certainly isn't support or customer relations.

and for controlling other MDs - yes, of course, that's the whole point of Orbiters, they can control any MD. You can just use an on-screen orbiter in your office, choose the room you want to control at the bottom - then that orbiter is controlling that room, not the room/screen that it is actually on. All orbiters are general like this - you could even get a Nokia770/800 with an orbiter and WiFi, then control any room from any location...

Thanks, I'll give that a shot.  It didn't occur to me to use the on screen orbiter, I generally have a Windows mentality and I'm still adjusting to this environment.
