2536  LinuxMCE / Developers / Re: 710 Release TODO on: February 27, 2008, 10:47:56 am
It's more or less working. But there won't be a lot of extra functionality VDR plugins this time around.. VDR==DVB for now.

Now that I know about the missing support for the pvrusb2 etc, I can live with it.

I just hope orbiters (n800 in particular) will be able to control the VDR on the core, and the MDs can watch channels off of the core, too.

That would be a huge step forward. And having the source of the VDR implementation wouldn't hurt either ;-)

Hello Daniel,

I don't see VDR in your show stopper list. Does this mean VDR is now in working and usable conditions? Or is VDR falling off 0710?

Those barebones are just their regular stuff. I asked them to build one for LinuxMCE. They put in one ever you want, as long as it fits (size and thermal wise). I had some problems with the Asus P5k, but in the end succeeded.

You might want to consider the Hush box a Media Director and utilize something else as the core. Hard disk make noise, so for the core noise is not that much of an issue. For the media director on the other hand, it has to be silent.

I have good success with a bare bone from http://www.ichbinleise.de. They use hfx cases and build a computer for your liking into it. Apart from some issues with the onboard NIC of the ASUS P5K everything is working very nice.

2540  LinuxMCE / Installation issues / [solved] Re: What does **RUN_GET_IR** mean? (RS-232 control does not work) on: February 22, 2008, 08:05:15 pm
Okay, fixed.

The problem was, my media director did not have access to the internet during the initial MD generation. Therefore a couple of packages where not installed. Thanks to hari for the hint regarding pluto-generic-serial.

For the future, make sure, you lmce installation has a connection to the internet. Otherwise bad things might happen.

I have looked into the logfiles and have then the following snippet:
Code:
LaunchManager.log:05    02/22/08 10:49:09.577           Starting device 73 Pioneer Kuro <0xb68568d0>
LaunchManager.log:05    02/22/08 10:49:09.577           Not starting device 73 Pioneer Kuro - binary is not found, probably it is in the middle of installation <0xb68568d0>

What is going on here? What binary is it looking for? Is it possible, that the MD is trying to download something of the internet, that it can't do right now, as no internet is available? The MD has been regenerated, and not been connected to the net!?

2542  LinuxMCE / Installation issues / What does **RUN_GET_IR** mean? (RS-232 control does not work) on: February 22, 2008, 10:33:25 am
Hello,

I am trying to control various AV equipment via RS-232. Using TestSerialPort works just fine with the following command:
Code:
/usr/pluto/bin/TestSerialPort -p /dev/ttyS0 -P N81 -t "SB\r" -s "SB" -i 3 -b 9600 && echo Success

Returns "Success" and turns the receiver off. How ever, creating a new AV device and filling in the code for OFF
Code:
<$"SB\r"$>
does not work, i get no result on the receiver and the receiver stays on when I press TEST on the codes screen.

Browsing thru the web administration I found the status of this device to be **RUN_GET_IR**. Does this have anything to do with my problem?

Any and all help is greatly appreciated in the quest to fix this problem.

Thanks

2544  LinuxMCE / Installation issues / Re: 0710b3 - Setup Wizard-Media Room-Model isn't on the list - Does not do anyth on: February 14, 2008, 10:48:51 am
I do not see that message. (I just found that information in the wiki).

So, to sum it up (as a reference for the future): If your receiver is not in the list, don't bother trying setting it up with the Media Player Wizard. At least in 0710b3. It won't work. Use the web admin afterwards.

2545  LinuxMCE / Installation issues / 0710b3 - Setup Wizard-Media Room-Model isn't on the list - Does not do anything on: February 14, 2008, 09:55:56 am
Hello,

during the setup wizard I want to select a receiver which is being controlled via IR. It is not in the list, so I select "Model isn't on the list". However, nothing happens. I type a new name, click on "Model isn't on the list". Still nothing happens.

Where am I doing something wrong?

Any and all help is greatly appreciated.

2546  LinuxMCE / Installation issues / USB-UIRT learning within LMCE - Is it working in 0710b3? on: February 12, 2008, 09:45:12 pm
Hello,

I am trying to learn the codes of a new remote via USB UIRT. But no codes are being received.

Is the USB-UIRT learning functionality working in 0710b3? If yes, any hint what I might do wrong (crystal ball anyone)?

Thanks

Well, watching a DVD on  a (fairly) large screen really shows differences between a DVD rip on a regular single layer DVD disk, and the original. I want the best possible picture quality while watching a movie in my home theater. Watching on a regular TV set does not show much difference, but once to you go into larger sized screens you see a difference. And it annoys the hell out of me.

So, by going down from 3-8GB of data to a 4GB movie, I save about 1€. I am willing to pay this price to get the best quality possible.

YMMV.

2548  LinuxMCE / Feature requests & roadmap / Re: Add support for the IR blaster on the MCE Remote (mce_usb2) on: February 11, 2008, 07:22:45 pm
Cool. My installation already had a USB-UIRT and the PVR2. Once everything is settled, I can use either to control IR equipment.

Thanks for the info.

I actually didn't think I'd be able to use Blu-ray at all for a while.  The way this thread was heading I thought it might be possible to get the video transcoded to something reasonable sized for use in a library.  Hearing that it 0710 can play Blu-ray movies is great.  If I could rip a movie then let a transcode run for several hours I'd consider making taking the plunge.  I'm actually much more interested in the ability to transcode and store than using a MD as a DVD player.  Whether or not it can play without ripping first is far less important as I almost never do this anyway.  I buy movies, rip/transcode them, then play them via MythTV at some later date.  If there is no way to do this with linuxMCE/Blu-ray right now, no big deal.  I can wait until the functionality fits my needs.

Why do you want to transcode a blu ray? Any kind of transcoding (that saves space) will reduce picture quality. Isn't one of the reasons to buy Blu Ray or HD-DVD to have the best picture quality available? With disk space getting so cheap these days (about 24€ct a Gig), I don't see a need to sacrifice picture quality at all.
