Those barebones are just their regular stuff. I asked them to build one for LinuxMCE. They put in one ever you want, as long as it fits (size and thermal wise). I had some problems with the Asus P5k, but in the end succeeded.

You might want to consider the Hush box a Media Director and utilize something else as the core. Hard disk make noise, so for the core noise is not that much of an issue. For the media director on the other hand, it has to be silent. I have good success with a bare bone from http://www.ichbinleise.de. They use hfx cases and build a computer for your liking into it. Apart from some issues with the onboard NIC of the ASUS P5K everything is working very nice. rgds Oliver

I have looked into the logfiles and have then the following snippet: LaunchManager.log:05 02/22/08 10:49:09.577 Starting device 73 Pioneer Kuro <0xb68568d0> LaunchManager.log:05 02/22/08 10:49:09.577 Not starting device 73 Pioneer Kuro - binary is not found, probably it is in the middle of installation <0xb68568d0> What is going on here? What binary is it looking for? Is it possible, that the MD is trying to download something of the internet, that it can't do right now, as no internet is available? The MD has been regenerated, and not been connected to the net!? rgds Oliver

LinuxMCE / Installation issues / What does **RUN_GET_IR** mean? (RS-232 control does not work)
|

Hello, I am trying to control various AV equipment via RS-232. Using TestSerialPort works just fine with the following command: /usr/pluto/bin/TestSerialPort -p /dev/ttyS0 -P N81 -t "SB\r" -s "SB" -i 3 -b 9600 && echo Success
Returns "Success" and turns the receiver off. How ever, creating a new AV device and filling in the code for OFF <$"SB\r"$> does not work, i get no result on the receiver and the receiver stays on when I press TEST on the codes screen. Browsing thru the web administration I found the status of this device to be **RUN_GET_IR**. Does this have anything to do with my problem? Any and all help is greatly appreciated in the quest to fix this problem. Thanks rgds Oliver

Well, watching a DVD on a (fairly) large screen really shows differences between a DVD rip on a regular single layer DVD disk, and the original. I want the best possible picture quality while watching a movie in my home theater. Watching on a regular TV set does not show much difference, but once to you go into larger sized screens you see a difference. And it annoys the hell out of me.
So, by going down from 3-8GB of data to a 4GB movie, I save about 1€. I am willing to pay this price to get the best quality possible.
YMMV.

I actually didn't think I'd be able to use Blu-ray at all for a while. The way this thread was heading I thought it might be possible to get the video transcoded to something reasonable sized for use in a library. Hearing that it 0710 can play Blu-ray movies is great. If I could rip a movie then let a transcode run for several hours I'd consider making taking the plunge. I'm actually much more interested in the ability to transcode and store than using a MD as a DVD player. Whether or not it can play without ripping first is far less important as I almost never do this anyway. I buy movies, rip/transcode them, then play them via MythTV at some later date. If there is no way to do this with linuxMCE/Blu-ray right now, no big deal. I can wait until the functionality fits my needs.
Why do you want to transcode a blu ray? Any kind of transcoding (that saves space) will reduce picture quality. Isn't one of the reasons to buy Blu Ray or HD-DVD to have the best picture quality available? With disk space getting so cheap these days (about 24€ct a Gig), I don't see a need to sacrifice picture quality at all. rgds Oliver
