[..]THIS IS DEPENDENT ON THE LINUXMCE BOX BEING THE CENTER OF THE NETWORK! The Phone has to be able to send a HTTP request to the core server.
somehow it seems, that Thom really wants to get the point across. rgds Oliver

LinuxMCE / Developers / Exporting Device Templates - ignoring sqlCVS for the moment
|
on: September 24, 2008, 12:21:52 pm
|
Hi, usually, the course of action with LinuxMCE is, to utilize sqlCVS to commit a new device template for anyone to use it. Unfortunately, anonymous commits to sqlCVS have caused myself problems in the past. I had a need to export created device templates, to import those devices into a new LinuxMCE installation. I created a small script called DeviceTemplate2php. This script can be called from a html page, and creates a new php file called device####.php, where #### is replaced with the original device template ID. The small script is located at http://possy.de/DeviceTemplate2php.tar.gz and should be stored on the LinuxMCE core in /var/www/ under the name DeviceTemplate2php.php. Now you can execute the file from your browser by using the url http://dcerouter/DeviceTemplate2php.php?DeviceTemplateID=1933in case you want to export your device template 1933. Please try it out, and let me know any problems you might experience. rgds Oliver

LinuxMCE / Installation issues / Re: Does each media director need a TV Tuner?

Another note here: you can put TV cards anywhere, in the core and/or in media directors. Sometimes, putting a TV card in a media director makes sense, as most of the time, there already is an antenna outlet near your TV.
No matter where your TV cards are, any media director is able to utilize any TV card in your whole setup.
Regarding 100mbit vs. 1gbit networks. Make sure you have a QUALITY switch. A good quality 3Com, Cisco or HP switch 100mbit, will be better than a cheap run of the mill gigabit switch.

samuelmukoti,
yes, the EPG and channel list on the orbiter should be fairly easily done, by using the HADesigner. No need for programming if I get things right.
The phone out is another issue.

LinuxMCE / Users / Re: Setting up VoIP....

Hello Colin, I started playing with VoIP a month or so ago after I signed up for my broadband provider's VoIP. I understand from previous comments (I think Zaerc or Thom) that SIP can be a little challenging to setup when you are routing over NATs - assuming this is because of the UDP component.
a couple of notes: - Because you do NAT, please read the note regarding NAT on the wiki http://wiki.linuxmce.org/index.php/1&1 Especially the part about externhost and localnet
- You should try to use the automatic phone lines setup in the web admin page, and not play with the SIP settings manually
- As far as I know, the built in dialplan already asked for a 9 to be dialed for an outside line
Basically, the default SIP phone line wizard works fine. If you do NAT, there is some additional configuration that you have to take care of. hth regards Oliver

It used to be, that the Maemo orbiter running on the Nokia machines was able to initiate phone calls. i.e. you click dial on the Maemo orbiter, and select the phone, that should be used to execute the call. Right now, that functionality is broken. Hopefully, it gets fixed in the Telecom Plugin.
Right now, EPG is not visible on the Maemo orbiter ( which really is a shame ), but that is something that should be possible in the very near feature. Again, this functionality existed already, but had been botched in the past releases.
