Just to set the record straight. You pay TAX for everything that comes into Germany (since 1st of December only if it is above 150EUR iirc), but you do not have to pay other import duties on some equipment. It depends on the type of equipment, and how the tax office specifies the equipment.

just a couple of reminders:
149USD is excluding shipping, and iirc, fiire had some hefty shipping feeds
You can't get a fiire chief atm (only in a lots of 100s it seems)

and yes, it is a free market.

totallymaxed,

even if a tuner card is detected and working out of the box, it still needs to be configured within MythTV and/or VDR. The correct way would be, upon detection of the card, lmce should ask me (for VDR), what channels.conf file should be needed for that card. And for MythTV, it should be automatically added in there as well. THAT is one of the beautiful things of lmce that tschak is trying to point out.

You have to stop VDR before making changes, as I think is mentioned in that article. VDR writes out the setup.conf at closing time.

Did you add the relevant plugins, i.e. xineliboutput and streamdev-server/-client

If I were you, I would start with lmce and get to know lmce inside and out. In 3-6 month time, you will be able to make the decision to either add the additional services to the system, or keep a different system.

Some people put everything into a single system, other people prefer to keep things separate.

Did you follow the configuration settings in http://wiki.linuxmce.org/index.php/VDR_Manual_Install

We received a sofa where people could sit. Most of the rest of the equipment was brought along by lmce people. (except the Plasma which was sponsored for the week).

We had approximately 4x3m with walls, and a counter plus a couple of barstools.

Follow me was a nice feature, we used the plasma plus a notebook as an MD.

What is important, imho, is to show people that lighting and stuff is also working nicely. i.e. go away from the media center, more towards the home automation aspect of lmce

Instead of looking at a single NAS with more drives, how about adding a second NAS?

I do not see that behaviour in 0710. Need to check on 0810.

See, if opening the case, and/or adding fans helps.

colinjones,

it uses ATI video, which is not good

is a fairly strong statement. You can get ATI cards to work with lmce. I ran my home theater MD with an ATI card under UI, without a problem.

PS: Granted, nvidia has more features within lmce, but that does not mean, ATI is not a valid choice.
