Installation issues / Re: DYNDNS Setting
« on: March 23, 2009, 10:12:35 am »
I have set my dyndns follow the wiki in "allow outside access". But, I still can't access LMCE core from outside. When I ping my dyndns domain (iuworld.dvrdns.org). It show reply result from my local IP (192.168.2.88).

Search for ddclient and web, and change /etc/ddclient.conf accordingly.

Oatz,

where do you need a how to?

I plugged the USB drive into my system, plugged the DVD into the optical drive, and installed it. Nothing special happened...

I installed lmce 0710 onto a USB drive without a problem.

Every phone compatible with Asterisk should work under lmce. However, there is one thing that makes a phone special under lmce. If a device template exists for a given phone, the phone gets autoconfigured. For example, when I plugged my Snom 360 into my internal network, it automatically got reconfigured from its old settings to lmce. The Cisco 7970 is even better, as it not only gets automatically detected, but also works as an orbiter.

can you have a dual boot system with mce and xp on the same rig

Yes, you can. And the way you do it, is by setting up your system to network boot.

When you run it as a media director, you will have the option under the Power menue of the orbiter, to restart your system as your Windows XP machine. To switch back to booting as an MD, you select again restart as MD from any orbiter, and be done with it, i.e. you don't have to mess with your BIOS each time to change your booting. You will always netboot, but if you have told lmce that you want to restart as Windows XP, the boot will fall thru to the local harddrive.

iirc, there is even a utility available that allows you to select the bootmode from within Windows.

Nope

You have to do parental control yourself

I'm trying to find a way to get scure web access without a static ip.

Use dyndns and an ssh tunnel with port forwarding. I do that all the time to a lmce system a couple of miles away.

Search for AV Wizard on the wiki (hint: on reboot hold down the shift key)

Developers / Re: 16:9 UI1 Variant Do you think its warranted?

eNoodle,

good. And yes, UI2 is different. imho it already has a totally different look, so I do not see a need to make design choices for UI2. But that is just me, who VERY,VERY rarely, if ever, use UI2.

The resolution itself is not that important imho. We already have quiet a few resolution, and know, it must work on a small screen. The Normal 3:4 Basic UI is a little bit too small for the size of the n810 display. I am really only talking about display sizes, not resolution, as I am pretty sure, a solution that works on an n810 size wise, will work on an iPhone/iTouch as well. The screen might not look as good on the Apple stuff, but that's the price you pay for having a nicer case (and I prefer the Apple logo over Nokia logo :P)

Having said that, we come back to the need for a consistent layout across ALL UI1 based orbiter imho. Right now we have Basic that has been consistent from SmallUI to Normal 4:3

A new skin needs to be consistent for all of the devices as well. I started with a SmallUI replacement, but quickly realized, that it does not make sense, to have a new Skin just for SmallUI. It irritates the user a lot, seeing two different skins for the same interaction.

Just my 0.02EUR

Andrew,

one thing I noticed locally is, if I define shares to be used with lmce directory structure, and automatically, they tend to stay connected. My audio library is only around 26k files, but it still takes a long time, when I did loose the connection. Since I have defined it to have the lmce structure AND allowed lmce to utilize it automatically things are fine.
