You do not need the old VDR version. Get the latest VDR sources from backports intrepid, and build the binaries

I also wonder, what happened when a non VDPAU gfx card is used. I played with a patched mplayer once, and it would not run. This would indicate, that an additional layer has to be added based upon gfx card and driver version.

The only thing I can imagine is, you did not hit ignore this time. What you can do is, go into the web admin / Advanced / Configuration / Unknown devices and Unlock the device in question

What you can do is, delete pluto_main database, and dpkg -i pluto-system-database. That will at least reinstall the original database. Maybe that helps. Try it an let us know

I have the 7.10 DVD but at the beginning of the install it just keeps repeating there is an error on fd0 Sector 0.

Is ther some way to get past this problem?

Ignore the problem. The install will continue eventually.

During the install of the DVD version, the install script probes for available drives.

It should prompt you the next time the PnP engine detects it. It should have done it within a couple of minutes max.

Isn't this something that is done in MythTV already? I am no MythTV user, but I do recall seeing some automatic recordings that were not initiated by the user.

The script has some escaping issues. But what you can do, is backup your pluto_main db, apply the script, and see what happens. If you do not like it, restore the backup. No harm done.

Then PLEASE, use the core as your gateway. Everything else is a hack.
