rocketlynx,

thanks for your positive feedback. That is very much appreciated!

I don't know if I needed to change the MD from AMD64 to i386 but I have heard that it may be easier getting the Antec (iMon) IR/VFW to work easier on an i386 diskless MD image.
you don't need to do that anymore. All MDs are running i386 atm, no matter what the setting.

1. Does the Launch Manager exist and is just not staring automatically?
a.  If so, where is it and how do you start it?
The Launch Manager is a CLI application at the moment. There were to many dependencies in the old launch manager, that jondecker took on the task to recreate it.

b.  After updating and waiting  for over 24 hrs., there still is no Add Software items to install such as the Codecs for DVD and such.
There is currently no additional software available.

Since I couldn't play or rip DVD movies, on the core's Konsole I did a "sudo apt-get install libdvdcss2" and all was well after that.  I could then play and rip DVDs on the core.  On the running MD, I invoked the konsole and executed the same command and then I could play the ripped dvds from the core.
That is the correct way at the moment.

felpouse,

do you have any fancy settings for your MDs? Like no mac address or stuff like that in the device settings in web admin?

Please check your DCERouter.log for hints.

(As a side note: I just tried to power down my MD via the Web Orbiter. No problem here)

Make sure you have your windows machines on the internal network as well. Also, make sure your windows machines point to the new IP address of the NAS.

Please check that you have mce-diskless-utils 2.0.0.44.09051121984. If not, apt-get update && apt-get upgrade and try again!

Matched.  Went to MD and ran KDE desktop.  Took a while but it is UP!  Yeah!

Yes, it does take a while on the first start of the KDE Desktop after a MD start.

However, when the MD initially boots it reports that it gets the broadcast address from the Core.

If you have added it to the dhcpd.conf file manually, that is expected, and correct.

samir,

please post a ticket on svn.linuxmce.org, mark it feature_patch, select 0810 Release as the milestone, and describe what you did.

Thanks.

[..]ssh'd into moon31 - was root, did update and dist-upgrade and nothing to apply.

This is strange. Please post your sources.conf of your MD, and the output of
Code: [Select]
dpkg -l|grep pluto-booton both, the md and the core.

PS: You don't need to ssh into your moon. On the core, you can do
Code: [Select]
chroot /usr/pluto/diskless/<id of media-director>
apt-get update
apt-get upgrade

Just tried alpha 2.18 and no joy.  No KDE desktop via menu or advanced.

2.19 contains another fix. Keep us posted, please.

At the moment a lot of logic is in the Event_Plugin ...

Do you think enabling debug in diskless dhclient-enter-hooks.d would do me any good?

no idea. try it, and see what happens.

afaik, there are utilities which allow you to do that with mp3 files, but I've never seen stuff like that for videos.

I find this idea very attractive! Maybe not for media sharing (I run ADSL, and maybe upload speed is not fast enough for video streaming) but for remote house control.

Anyways, for those willing to have a remote MD on the other side of the tunnel, it might be necessary a HD based media director, Installing or starting a diskless MD through a VPN would take a lot of time to start.
Think bigger...

A VPN between 2 Cores could open up the possibility to sync data between them. This could be done while you are not using the system or your internet connection has low usage. That way you could not only control your hollyday appartment, but you can still se your favorite TV shows or DVD collection when you are there.

In theory this sounds good, and I agree, it should be implemented (any volunteers?). However, right now, the pipes are just not big enough atm. But in general, having linked LinuxMCE system, is something worth while.
