chriss,

please send the output of lshwd not lshw

Thanks.

if libdvdcss is installed on the core, each subsequent MD creation will contain the libdvdcss as well.
Will 810 copy over the addons you install on the core over to newly created MDs

This is only true for the libdvdcss2

Users / Re: Linuxmce + existing songs and pictures

my user_8 and user_9 were generated after the drives were added. I found that LinuxMCE automagically made the subdirectories as you described above.
But in the case of public, there is a subdir (also in your overview above), or rather a symlink, to specific drives.
I am wondering how I obtain that situation in user_9.

Try rebooting.

1) I had to manually tweak udev naming rules for my network *before* running the LinuxMCE installer for my external network was detected as eth1 while the internal one was eth0. The installer produced a lot of errors on setting up dhcp an such.
At the moment, the installer is quite picky. eth0, or eth0 and eth1, are needed.

2) After rebooting into LinuxMCE my keyboard layout was changed (DE -> US). no idea why that happened (or if it is necessary :))
You should be able to change that in the web admin under keyboard layout.

3) The install did not install the nvidia drivers (as it should do according to the front page article) my system is still running on nv driver instead.
Interesting. Would you mind pasting the output of lspci and lshwd.

What am I to do with the video driver? is it safe to use KDE desktop to install nvidia restricted driver (version 180)?
Should not cause too many problems, but again, it surprises me, that it was not done originally.

e. Had display issue on reboot - "out of frequency" error.  Installed Nvidia 180 drivers; There after AVWizard says "Failed to Setup X". Changed /etc/X11/xorg.conf file to use vesa instead of nvidia. (http://us.download.nvidia.com/XFree86/Linux-x86/180.51/NVIDIA-Linux-x86-180.51-pkg1.run)

The out of frequency issue should have been resolvable by pressing one of the numeric keys, as pointed out in the wiki [urlhttp://wiki.linuxmce.org/index.php/AVWizard_Step_by_Step#Section_II][/url]. The nVidia driver is automatically installed.

Installation issues / Re: login as root on md
« on: May 19, 2009, 10:06:19 pm »
To get to the MD root prompt, you login into the core as the user you have used during your Kubuntu install. After that do the following steps:
Code: [Select]
sudo -i
This will prompt you for the password of the user who you initially created during the Kubuntu installation
Code: [Select]
ssh moon<device-id-of-mediadirector>

Done!

two quick notes on pigdogs message:

  • The switching to the text mode is not really necessary. And if you do not switch to text mode, you don't need to switch back into graphics mode after that either. It is purely for your entertainment to see all the bytes fly by :)
  • Our forum software has the ability to use lists. It makes things a lot easier on the eyes to use those (as I have done in this post to highlight it)  ;)

Try it with UI1 and see if that exhibits the same behavior. Ui2 alpha or masked really does not matter, as they both use the same internal mechanism.

I honestly don't know where to start at making a patch and haven't had time to research that.

Most network related scripts can be found with this command:
Code: [Select]
ls /usr/pluto/bin|grep net -i|grep -v Orbiter

On top of that, you have the web admin to take off:
Code: [Select]
ls /var/www/lmce-admin/operations/network

And for the install, we have the new-installer. Finding out, where stuff happens in there:
Code: [Select]
grep ifconfig /root/new-installer/*

I am sure, you people can make it work fairly fast, but splitting tasks:
  • One is doing the shell scripts
  • One is doing the PHP changes
  • One is doing the new-installer updates

and in the end, EVERYBODY will have a solution working out of the box, without the need to manually twiddle around. Something that people new to Linux do not like doing.

GO! GET IT DONE!

felpouse,

I have no idea.

Are you using UI1 or UI2 on your core?

Thank you merkur2k for your work.

And yes, please, people!, test it!

If anyone has some exported templates, please feel free to filebin them someplace, and I shall try to import them in my test env.

Posde idea is to replace the Xine for audio media playback with Softsqueeze...therefore moving all audio streaming clients to the same player software. this would automatically get us sync'd audio on the MD's and Squeezeboxes. Sounds like a very compelling proposition to me ;-)
How would that work?

Xine plays media and streams
-------
         | Media directors tune in to the stream
         | Squeezeboxes listen to stream via mms, rtsp, mp3?

no. It would work the same way as it works with the hardware Squeezeboxes. We tell Squeezecenter to play a file on a Squeezebox (either hardware or software). Xine is not involved at all.

And yes squeezeslave works well.  I use it now to sync music from squeezecenter to my fm radios where I do not have squeezeboxes.

Good to hear.

I am just right now trying out the 0810 with my MD. The Core was installed 2 months ago, but updated with "apt-get upgrade".

Please create a new installation. apt-get upgrade'ing a broken an installation (and I would call an alpha installation from 2 month ago broken) will most likely not succeed.

Save yourself some pain, reinstall kubuntu 0810, and do a fresh install of LinuxMCE 810.
