Could this be something we could do?

Installation issues / 0710b3 VDR - DVB-T not working
« on: January 20, 2008, 12:50:59 pm »
0710Beta3, VDR installation.
Winfast Leadtek DTV1000-T (Connextant CX8800)

This is the first time I've tried VDR. Now that I have Beta 3 installed, I can't seem to get the tuner card working. Had it working under Beta 2 (Myth Installation).

This time around, I can't seem to get any response from it. scan -o vdr just produces the help screen, no matter what options I try. Kaffeine does not show any DVB options. It seems like the card is not there, but lspci and lsmod show everything normal.

Does anyone have any ideas?

Installation issues / Fullscreen image - Myth/Xine integration
« on: January 11, 2008, 11:02:05 am »
I'm using a standard widescreen TV as my display. I had a lot of problems getting a full-screen image, until I found that Myth had a setting allowing it to run the UI and the Live TV at different resolutions.

In order to get a full-screen image for watching TV, the resolution I need seems to be 640x400, while 640x480 is what is being used for the UI.

However, I've had no such luck getting Video from the Media->Video menu to play full screen. Whenever I play video from here, whether it is the recorded TV or a DVD, the image has large black bars top and bottom, so that only two thirds of the screen is used vertically for the image.

Can anyone tell me how to get a full-screen image?

Users / Your own pictures as screensavers

Hi Guys,

I really like the way LMCE displays pictures when it's idle, but I thought I'd like to have our own pictures as well. I got the info from the wiki article at which gave me all the information I needed. However, I found the admin website too cumbersome to use for adding multiple image, so I wrote a script to make the job easier.

If you're interested in doing the same, the script is available for download from my blog at

I'll add it to the wiki in a few days, after I know it's not going to cause mass panic or do other bad things.  ???

I've been playing around with LMCE 0710 Beta2, and have been thoughroughly impressed. Lots of problems, but very enjoyable and very impressive potential.

One problem - I can't make my lights follow my remote movement  :o

Pity I discovered LMCE only after I sold my house fully automated with CBus  :(

Anyway, I want to automate my current house and connect the automation to LMCE - and I'm not afraid of the development work necessary to get there. Are there any other brave souls that want to journey down this road with me?

First step is to select a an automation system that can be retrofitted. CBus is not a good choice - I don't want to pull cladding off the wall to install the control cables, and Wireless CBus is quite a bit more expensive.

PLCBus? Sounds interesting - does anyone have any experience with it?

X10 - it has some bad press regarding reliability, and I want my system to be robust. I want my automated house to just work - I don't want to have to reboot my computer each time my fridge motor induces a pulse down the powerline.

Oh yeah - I also want my automation system to be independent - I want it to be controllable from a computer system like LMCE, but I don't wan't it to be dependant on a computer. Turn off all the computers in the house and lights must still be controllable from the wall switches and/or IR remotes or whatever - which implies decentralised intelligence like CBus (and PLCBus, from what I've heard)

Installation issues / AppServer does not start
« on: December 24, 2007, 06:57:02 am »
I'm trying to install 704, as a first-timer trying to familiarise myself with LinuxMCE before 710 is released.

I keep having a problem with AppServer not starting up, and a black screen saying not all devices have successfully started up (not the exact wording).

I've installed several times, each time doing a fresh install with different installation options - with/without DCHP server, with/without different hardware, always with the same error.

So, what does device #15, AppServer do, and what can affect it during startup? Any ideas?
