LinuxMCE / Users / DVB-C Card on 771 Mainboard?
|

Hi there. I'm planning my setup right now, and I'm not really sure what to buy. LinuxMCE is one part of my project, but it doesnt end there, that's why I will setup it in xen (under fedora werewolf) Now I do have a problem. Since I need a lot of performance for a few of my projects, I'm going to go to the 771 standard, and buy a quadcore 2,4 ghz processor. But most of the 771 mainboards don't really have too many PCI Slots, so I have a problem getting dvb-c cards in. so my question is.. would you use another computer, just for the TV part ? And what would I need for that one? Performance-wise. Another solution would be USB interfaces for the cable.
So in conclusion: 1. Would you use a own computer to build the TV interface in my home. 2. Can anyone recommend DVB-C Cards ? USB or PCI ? I'd like to have 4 possible streams, so I guess twin tuners would be great (I think that's how they're called)
Alright.. that's it for now. Thanks in advance.

In the system I'm going to set up, I was planning on using a Fedora 8 Xen Dom0, I want to set up one Xen DomU using Openfiler as my storage system (crypted with truecrypt), and share the storage in a virtual NAS (and a real NAS to the MDs) - the LinuxMCE will run in a DomU as well.
So this topic is quite interresting to me. Especially the one parts about big partitions - because I'm planning on putting 4 TB drives into a raid 5 - and using it as one big partition. The other thing I'm interested in, is the 3ware controller. I planned on getting a 3WARE 9550SXU-12.
Could you guys be more specific about those problems you were talking about? Since that could throw over a big part of my project...

I invested a few hours of trying, but sadly didnt get it to run .. I followed all the instructions on the page you gave me (thanks for that tho), but the server doesnt really care about the usbstick when booting. I told him to boot it, but he doesnt .. I'm trying a few other things now..
So right now sadly no success.
Any news on the 3.9 GB Version ?

Hello everyone. I visited the page every day for the last month or so, desperately waiting for the release of 0710. Now I can't install it, because I too don't have the right dvd burner for it. What I have tho, is a 12 GB big USB stick, and my server's bios supports booting from usb harddrives.
I don't have a floppy drive, and I don't really understand how I can make the thing bootable. Does anyone have a clue how I can "burn the iso" to the usb stick ? I googled a lot, and I found some instructions, but I don't really get it. The missing floppy drive is a big problem in that context...
Maybe someone knows a way - might be interesting for others too.

The psp does have a wlan adapter integrated. I'm thinking about writing a control interface in php that I'd access with the psp. I've never done any c programming tho, which is the language you can develop psp programs in.
But I'll keep you up to date with my progress.

I'm using full virt. Define the machine with the Kubuntu iso as a cdrom. Fire up and install kubuntu. Copy over Kubuntu, LCME 1&2 and the extracted installer. Install LCME with Orbiter and Core and away you go.
I wish I could .. no VT on my test-server.. so I have to wait with this test until I have my real server. My whole project is going way over my head .. haha. I love it. My newest idea is - using a psp as remote. I'll blog all that stuff soon, my whole concept could be interesting for others maybe.

Hi there - looked into this topic, because I think it still is interesting to use XBOXs as MDs .. Did you continue working on that project ? Maybe you could tell us how it went in the last time.. Would be a cheap and great way..

Hi there again.
daballiemo - are you using paravirtualisation or the other option ? My server doesnt support the other option, because it doesnt have the vanderpool thing.
And in paravirtualisation I can't get it to install .. but maybe I'm the mistake .. maybe you could give me a little more info on how you installed it exactly. For instance - you said, you set up a new virtual machine and installed then ? What did you use as install source in the xen ui ?
Thanks for your help.

Hello everyone, and especially you daballiemo Can't help you with anything, I'm afraid, since I'm new to all of this, and especially to LMCE - but I'm thrilled at you setting it up in xen, since I planned to do that. Did you document that somewhere, or are you going to write some kind of tutorial or somethign ? That would be awesome.
