Has anyone used any of the following devices as MD:

1.  http://z500series.com/index.php

2.  http://www.dlink.com/products/?sec=0&pid=547

trying to find an alternative to the FIIRE fanless system.  If these two will work with MS MCE will they or can they work with LMCE.  I like these due to the cost and asthetic appearance and removes the need for a PC or all of the other items I've seen here for MD.

Just asking

I have the exact same issue, but it only appears to happen on my MD.  Navigating is a hassle when you are tryiiing to shuffle through scenes of a dvd.

I'm hoping someaone can give me a pointter on how to troubleshoot this issue.  I get sound from DVD Play and prettty much everrything in the MD Main screen.  Additionally, when a phone call comes in, the core will ring as well as dial out.  I thought the MD was not dialing at one time, but it does dial out, but when calls come in it does not display an incoming call.  help

I have a clean install for Core / MD 0710RC2 -

When selecting the Media, Videos, I see a large number of files that appear to be system files like:  Doorbell.mpg, default.avi, and many others like it.  I'm sure these should be on the system, but was wondering if anyone knows how to remove them from the view on the system without deleting them  ?

Thanks

Installation issues / Making phone calls from MD - FreePBX config
« on: May 29, 2008, 04:58:54 am »
Hi hope someone can lend a hand -

Configured FREEPBX manually as well as Phone Lines in the Wizard located in WebAdmin Page.  I can make calls and receive calls from the Core,, but I cannot on any MD.  Is there something more I need to configure in WebAdmin to get each MD to receive and make calls ?

Thankks

Installation issues / Re: Installation failure

If you are connecting the DVI out, use a DVI to VGA converter and it should work.  Had the same problem and answers.  This will only work if you are hearing the beeps indicating it's starting the AV Wizard.  Hope this helps.

Had the same problem.  When I finally bured the ISO to disk at 4x, all worked well and I was able to install.  Burning the ISO at 6x or 8x causes problems.

Hoe that helps

Installation issues / Slow menu response when loading/copying dvd's
« on: May 27, 2008, 09:28:30 am »
Hi everyone,

Whenever I load a DVD I get an odd response when trying to select options or make any selections.  For example:

Attached to my MD I have the gyration GO mouse and keyboard.

If I load a DVD and depress the center button to get the LinuxMCE Options menu and try then to move to any of the options on the menu, sometimes it takes 30 seconds before I get a response, other times it takes minutes.  The MD has the following H/W:

0710 RC2
ASUS Barebones system
2 GB RAM
Geforce 6800 graphis - DVI--->HDMI
UI2 alpha blend
SPDIF Optical

During DVD Playback any menu movement is delayed.

Has anyone had this experience

bmxracr96 - I had the exacct same problem and I thought the system was jacked up.  Those hot keys did not work for me so I had to follow the steps using the arrow keys to get it fixed.  Also, I did connect a VGA Screen to my MD simultaneously connected to the A/V Receiver.  I was able to get through the setup, but when I unpluggd the VGA monitor, I was back a square 1.  So I hope this helps:

It's tedious but it works:

1.  Plug your VGA Mon to the system.
2.  reboot the system and write down each step you take for the AV setup:  example:  the first screen that comes up is all you do is press enter, next screen (if you want to use DVI - HDMI and 720p) press down arrow 1 tims, press right arrow 1 time and down 2 times and press enter, then wait 11 seconds and press right arrow 1 time and enter.  This will get you past the initial screen while it's black/blank and then allow you to select the UI and you should be home from there.

If that does not work, on my core using a FXF Geforcce 8500 card, I had to attach a DVI to VGA adapter to get things configured and things seem to work fine from there.

Also,, you should hear two set's of beeps; 1) progressive up tone; 2) I think is progressive down tone (I hope I remembered that correctly).  In any case, after the second tone wait about 10 - 15 seconds and you should start with the enter key as described above.

Not scientific but  it worked for me.  Now my only problem is that the system locks up about every hour or so.

Installation issues / Re: Issues with 0710 RC
« on: May 15, 2008, 10:01:08 pm »
Just to followup my last post.

I changed the DHCP from Static to DHCP receive from the router and the system appears to stabilize for about an hour or two.  still investigating.   When changed to be the DHCP serrver it crashes within 15 mins.

133
I've installed LMCE 0710 RC2 - Got through the installed and configured 1 MD.  Core is the only DHCP server in the home.  After about 24 hours running good, the core began to lock up about ever 4 hours or so.  Now it's locking up ever 15 mins.  Review my configuration for everything and only made a few changes from default install as follows:

MD - Set Video to Manual as it was a sugesstion in another post to get Dolby/DTX sound out of system  -  that worked.

No other mods.

Upon investigating, I turned off DHCP on the core and the system has been up for an hour with no lockups.

I'm not sure how to troubleshoot DHCP in Linux as I don't completely know my way around, does anyone have any sugesstions on how to investigate the DHCP "possible" issue ?

thanks

Installation issues / Re: Issues with 0710 RC - System Locking Up
« on: May 14, 2008, 06:00:50 am »
Downloaded and installed LinuxMCE 0710 RC2 and configured MD

System Config (Core)

Mobo:  ASUS P5N-D
CPU:    Intel 775 Chip 2.4 G
Mem:   2 Gb
H/D:    5 @ 500 Gb
Optical:  Phillips DVD Lightscribe
Networ:  2 Gb Etho
DHCP - Enabled  (192.168.0.2 Eth0; 192.168.80.2 Eth1)

System Cofig (MD)

ASUS P-5945G Barebones
CPU:  Intel 775 (same as aboove)
Graphics:  Geoforce 6200 XFX
Mem:  2 Gb
Optical:  Phillips DVD Lightscribe
Mouse/
Keyboard:  Go Gyration
Sound:  Digital Output

MD WebAdmin Config:  OS/ Windows - Video - Geoforce -

Any help would be appreciated.

Router:  DLink Wireless - connected to Cable Modem (no dhcp)

Switch:  14 Port Gb - Cat5 throughout home (Eth0 connected)

Problems solved:

Black Screen at MD Startup - Took a while to get MD configured with the black screen, but discovered through reading lots of forum posts that the initial screen goes black and all I had to do was select the correct output and then screen displayed:

Dolby & DTS output MD - Also discovered that althought I could hear all the sound when configuring the AV wizard, when I tried to play any DVD file (other than the demo that is installed to the system) I could not hear the movie, instead I got the Modem or Static type noise as if a blackberry was too close to the phone (if you know what I mean).    FIX:  Changed the Audio output on the LinuxMCE Launch Manager in KDE to Manual (can't believe it was that simple, another post similar gave this fix).

Problems persist:

Core - System locks up multiple time a day.  No changes made to the core install other than MD setup and a couple of DVD's and the system locks up (today it did about 4 times).  Very troublesome.  I've looked at the logs in KDE - however there is no boot log created and I don't know how to do that or if I should.

        Q.  Any sugesstions on how to troubleshoot these issues ?
        Q.  Do I need to have a boot log ?  If, how do I do that or is there a location with instructions on how to do that ?  It would really help.  I'll keep searching the Net until I find something.

I manually configured an MD and the system installed.  I also found out that, my Video output affected setup somehow.  I was having the same issue on another MD and when I changed the AV output as described below, it configured itself automatically.

I dorked around with this for days trying to figure it out.  It did not dawn on me until I read the AV Wizard instruction for the 100th time.  Here is a fix in my case.

NEW INSTALL/SETUP - If your initial output is DVI - it won't work (so I've discovered with 0710RC2), you must put a DVI to VGA plug on the DVI output and then you should see the AV Wizard.    I have done this on all 4 of my MD's and they are now working.

When I did this, it appeard that my system had been booting the entire time correctly and got to the UI1 screen.  I'd been pressing every stupid number button imagineable.

Hope this helps.
