Installation issues / GO Remote and Keyboard issue
« on: March 22, 2009, 03:56:08 am »
I've got a go wireless keyboard and mouse connected to my MD.  I just added a HDD to the System and now when I try to use the remote (pressing any button), it travels to the far left and I have no control of it.

Does anyone know how to resolve this issue ?

Installation issues / fsck: errors out after checking disk
« on: February 10, 2009, 04:00:42 pm »
The other day I rebooted my core and began to get an error indicating that the disk needed.  The system seems to run the check ok and then I get:

Automatic file system check errored and will need to be run manually.  Afterwhich, I get a number of bash: messages with not found and the system stalls with no cursor or any additional processing.

I've tried doing a number of things to run fsck manually however with no results.

Any information that can assist would be helpfu.

Installation issues / Setting up Teliax in LINUXMCE
« on: January 31, 2009, 09:17:06 pm »
I've tried repeatedly to get this setup. I've used the setup wizard as well as tried to manually.  Under devices - Phone Lines - it displays as registered..  However, when I try to make a call from MD I get msg, "Your call cannot be completed as dialed".  I know I'm dialing the number correctly.

Q:  does this problem point to not having the outgoing line setup correctly ?

Q:  Should I use the configuration for AMP, SIP or AIX from the Teliax support site ?

Installation issues / LIRC Setup and configuration for iMON
« on: January 31, 2009, 08:51:16 am »
I've looked at many posts on this topic and can't seem to get the steps down correctly to get this installed.  I'm attempting to configure my iMON remote that came with my silverstone case and VFD.

Saw a post frrom nite_man that outlined what to do, but I'm lost on what is being indicated by copy configuration file.   Here is what I've done so far:

1.  Created ne manufaccturer (after that the wiki instructions indicated I need to add a new template for that manufacture) I THINK I GOT THIS ONE CORRECT

2. In the new template add the property - Configuration and put the LIRC configuration file for iMON PAD (NOW I'm lost!!!  I se a section on what I believe is the new template that says configuration - that's just a single block, very small).

Am I doing this right, although I have not gone any further I wanted to ensure that I did not miss anything.   I looked at the screen shots from nite_mans post and the templat he has does not look the same as what I have.

When I've selected the manufacturer and category, I've clicked the button to add template and another screen is presented with 3 selections.  Is that where I addd the template ?

Any help would be greatful.

Installation issues / MY MCE Experience and Final System Configuration
« on: January 10, 2009, 09:25:20 pm »
First, thanks to all you GURU's that helped me getting this system up and running, I know have a completely stable system.  A little bit about my setup:

CORE -
Core

Case - Cinch 4U Rackmount
ASUS M3N78-EM
8Gb RAM
1 WD HDD WD3200   32Gb
2 WD HDD WD500AAS - 500Gb ea
Anthlon 64 Processor
nVidia Geforce 9600 GT Video
(2) 1gb NIC
Standard VGA Monitor

MD

Case - Silverstone GD01B-MXR
ASUS P5945G
Intel Dual Core
4Gb RAM
No HDD
Nvidia Geforce 9600G
LG Opt Drive
On-board Gb NIC

I started out with an old pentium based system with mixed matched IDE and SATA drives and varying amount of memory for both the Core and MD and did not get the experience I was looking for.  Not trying to compare to the MS trailer, I wanted a system that was all encompassing and minimized the number of devices/hardware located in each of my media rooms.  After all of my experimentation and frustrations, I purchased hardware to build the devices listed above and I am please to say they perform exceptionally well.  I've searched the forum to find a "complete system" configuration that Identified standards for a complete package - I wasn't able to find one.  I'm not sure if I can add this or if the moderator of this forum must, but it would be nice to have a Working Systems Configuration section so that we can all post our systems a not have to search the entire board for it.

One question that still remains:

Q:  I've installed LMCE on a 320Gb HDD - Is there a minimum requirement for disk and caching for the OS disk space in the core ?

The reason I'm asking, is I was thinking of copying dvds/music to the core OS Disk, but I remembered from one of my other installs that when I had dvd's on the core I ran into loads of problems like:  slow operation if dvd was playing; High CPU usage; other MD's having problems accessing resources if dvd on core Hdd was playing.  It appeared that the core OS Hdd should remain ONLY for the OS and not have any additional files on it that would be/could be used by MD's.  Is this correct ?

Thanks in advance and great job on this software

Installation issues / Trying to update nVidia drivers
« on: December 28, 2008, 07:43:57 pm »
Linux Gods,

I've tried every step that I could find to do this.  I've just hit a wall I guess.  Here is my system:

CORE  (New)

ASUS M3A7A-EM
AMD Phenom X3 64
8 Gb RAM
eGeforce 8600 GTS
2 1gb realtek NIC

MD (NEW)
Silverstone Case
ASUS P5N-d
Intel core 2 duo
4 Gb RAM
on-board NIC
on-board Sound (Toslink)
XFX-7600

I cannot get UI1 or UI2 Alpha on either of these systems.  I have printed out every instance of installing and setting up the nVidia cards and man I'm just lost.

My questions:

Is there a way to update the drivers from KDE?
Can I update the MD from console on them or do I have to do it from Core or other system ?

I know you guys have commented on this in a hundred different way.  I've tried to follow the Wiki, but all of the eggnog must be clouding my brain cause I'm stumpped.

HELP PLS

Installation issues / DVD Playback freezes
« on: December 14, 2008, 07:06:53 am »
Hope to get some direction.

When I use my MD in my theatre and play a dvd from the core, throughout the movie it freezes.  This happens to every movie and many times within a movie.  From another thread, I saw a post that indicated to run dmseg and post.  I'm hoping someone can lead me down the right path.  Also, when setting up this MD, it displays AMD64 in WebAdmin when it's a i386, Could this be the problem.

Installation issues / KDE Dolphin and Disk Size
« on: November 24, 2008, 04:47:46 am »
Been copying DVD's most of the weekend and ran into an issue.  Maybe I'm just not looking at this properly.

Core has (2) 500 Gb SATA disk

When I look at the storage from within KDE / Dolphin - it shows two 500 Gb drives.  Upon clicking each drive, one shows the correct free space; the other shows 223Gb Free and comes up under a tmp.hmbxdh7129.  However, when I select Root or another location it only shows 80Gb free.

I have copied dvd's to that drive but only 4 or 5.

Can anyone explain if I'm seeing the correct disk space ?

When I try to copy a dvd to the drive from within the MD I get a message drive full.

Installation issues / Drives with DVD Movies don't load
« on: July 04, 2008, 06:45:02 pm »
Maybe someone knows this answer and how to do this.  I have installed 0710 rc2 and I have 3 HDD from my previous 0704 install that contains DVD Movies.  However the system won't recognize them.

Is there a way to force the system to recognize these DVD's and Pictures.

Installation issues / System Crashing and Heavy Load display
« on: June 08, 2008, 12:38:39 am »
Hi all,

Just making some observations of some problems I've had over the past month with my install.  I was originally seeing the Core lock up about every hour, then it began locking up ever 20 or so minutes.  I did some research in trying to track or diagnos the issue and stumbled on KDE System Guard.  System guard on the core displays:

    a.  Extremely heavy and consistent load
    b.  physical memory is almost exhausted (1.6 out of 2Gb) and
    c.  CPU load is at about 92%.

My core is as follows:

0710 RC2  (no other software on system)
MOBO - ASUS P5N-D
Mem - 2Gb
HDD -  Maxtor 320GB (boot),  (2) WD 500GB (data, video, pics)
Video - XFX 8500GT  PCIE
DVD - Philips w/lightscribe
NET - (2) TrendNet 10/100/1000 etho

I have about 80 DVD's ripped to this core:

Maxtor drive has 120 Gb free - about 20 DVD and photos
WD -1 180 - about 20 DVD
WD -2 260 - about 11 DVD

Since my boot drive appeared to have enough space, I did not think that it would be a disk problem.  However, just last night, I copied all of the DVD's on the boot disk to the other two disks WD, and have seen a reduction in the adverse affects.

1.  The system has not locked up for 24 hours.
2.  System resources, if KDE SysGuard is correct are somewhat normal - by that I mean Physical memory is still nearly exhausted at steady 1.6Gb, CPU load is more steady, however a large number of MAX spikes, overall load is exhibiting the same as the CPU.

Now what's really troubling is that the system is sitting "idle".  No MD's connected (all turned off and not on net), no Internet connectivity.  The core is now standalone not doing any work.

Q.  In KDE SysGuard - Does physical memory really mean physical ? I don't see any swap, but don't understand why it consuming so much.

Q.  Is there any hints anyone can give me as to where to look to try and troubleshoot ?  Searched KBU and the net and have yet to find any good info.

thanks

Marketplace / Support for various Media Directors
« on: June 01, 2008, 02:42:40 am »
Has anyone used any of the following devices as MD:

1.  http://z500series.com/index.php

2.  http://www.dlink.com/products/?sec=0&pid=547

trying to find an alternative to the FIIRE fanless system.  If these two will work with MS MCE will they or can they work with LMCE.  I like these due to the cost and asthetic appearance and removes the need for a PC or all of the other items I've seen here for MD.

Just asking

I have a clean install for Core / MD 0710RC2 -

When selecting the Media, Videos, I see a large number of files that appear to be system files like:  Doorbell.mpg, default.avi, and many others like it.  I'm sure these should be on the system, but was wondering if anyone knows how to remove them from the view on the system without deleting them  ?

Thanks
