Installation issues / missing link destination
« on: June 11, 2008, 06:48:10 pm »
I've been battling on and off trying to get an AMD64 MD going with an i386 hybrid core with no success yet.
I've tried
  • adding MD via webadmin, leaving arch type as i386, clicking setup diskless MD, wait for it to finish generating MD, quick reload router. Then tried booting MD. Nothing, MD gets no IP addr.
Add MD MAC via webadmin, save, reload router, booting MD this time gets ip addr and continues to boot until it loops failing a mount call with error 13. Rebuilding of the image via webadmin doesn't help.
  • Delete above MD via webadmin, re-add as above, set its arch type to be amd64, rebuild image and reload router. Less this time, ip addr received by the MD but cannot boot.
After some digging found that the tftboot directory had the initrd image and vmlinuz had broken symlinks. The symbolic link had the right content but the destination file was not present.

Do these files get pulled out of the PlutoMD-archxxx.tar.bz2 files? My amd64 file appears to be corrupt, bunzip decompresses it ok, but tar complains - I can't rember the exact error - " missing '.' " or something to that effect?
Am I digging in the right direction?

thanks

Installation issues / Re: Issues with 0710 RC
« on: May 13, 2008, 11:41:42 am »
I tried a 2CD based upgrade from RC1 to RC2 last night. The install seemed to hang on generating mdadm.conf (I don't have any sort of a raid set-up), I started it last night and it was still stuck on that this morning. I ran dmesg to see if anything had died during the night and it reported too many open files and the system was very sluggish. I've shut it down now but I'll try the install again later.
Anyone any clue what could cause the hang?

btw - should the core and md services be stopped before running the install script? or does it detect them running and handle it itself?

thanks

does it take the time to resolve the address before displaying the page?
or is the time taken in rendering the page?
what is the output of ifconfig on the MD?

I checked what I thought was the existing working MD again, and that now fails too with the same mount error!
I'll upgrade to RC2 when I get a chance and see if this whole issue goes away.

Does anyone know where I should dig next to try and get this MD operational?
According to the wiki I should just be able to plug the MD in and the core should spot it and do the necessaries - I've never had this work, the core never hands out an addr.

I wasn't sure whether this query should be on this thread or here http://forum.linuxmce.org/index.php?topic=4963.0 but I reckon it might get more attention without the "solved" in the title.
I've an i386 hybrid core running 710rc1. I had no problem adding an i386 MD but am trying to add an amd64 MD and it ain't playing ball.
I've added the MD via the web admin, specified as amd64, rebuilt image, updated and run setup diskless MD. Waited for everything to finish and booted new machine, nada!!
I populated the MAC address on the MD in the webadmin and tried again - this time machine starts to boot, h/w detection flies along as kernel boots - then I get a recurring error of "mount failed: 13". This tries a number of times then dumps me out to a busybox prompt.

What am I missing?

I have tried deleting and re-adding the MD but no luck.

I'm guessing my core is missing amd64 images for the diskless MDs - how would I know this? and if so where do I get them?

thx

The spec you quote for your cable company indicates dvb-c and lists frequencies of channels available in the clear.
You should be able to at least receive these, equipped with a dvb-c card supported by LMCE http://wiki.linuxmce.org/index.php/DVB-C

Spotted a new entry under configuration for UPNP but when I select it, the main frame on the web-admin page reports it cannot connect on the port it tries.
I see fuppes trying to start on boot but it complains about eth0 not being a complete address - how do I switch it to be my internal NIC?

thanks
Coley.

looks like it should be in my fuppes.cfg file - will check later.

turns out it was on the correct port - the ip address of the internal nic has to be specified - as opposed to localhost, then the config web page appears.

I tried leaving the ip address range blank in fuppes.cfg to allow any ip connect but web admin still only appears when the LMCE admin interface is launched from 192.168.80.1.

d'oh! thanks, specifying the resolution the right way round helps!
The N95 should have ODD but think it needs symbian/carbide dlls on PC side.
Can the jar file be built with extra dbg when it throws an exception?

Got round to installing this last night. 710rc1 on core and JavaMO on Nokia N95 - looking good  ;D
I cannot get the UI to fill the screen on the N95. I've selected 320x240 as the size and Symbian as the UI type - I assume this is the restriction as it has a lower resolution in brackets.
What do I need to edit to force the orbiter to be rendered full screen?

Also when regenerating the orbiter from the core the JavaMO runs in to an unhandled exception.
I can recreate this later if logs are required.

Before I ask a question - first thanks to all who made this happen!! :D

Now - My core is i386, and MDs are mixed, if I download the LinuxMCE_Install_CDs_for_i386_-_0710_RC1.4151436.TPB.torrent will I get all I require?

also on the Wiki page http://wiki.linuxmce.org/index.php/Mirrors_0710_RC1 we have the warning that using the DVD will wipe all your HD(been there done that) but yet in the notes -
Quote
NOTES:

- To upgrade from a 0710 beta to 0710 RC1, you can use "LinuxMCE Install CDs for i386" or "LinuxMCE Install DVD for i386" with "keep settings" option.

- To upgrade from 0704, you can use : a) "LinuxMCE Install CDs for i386 - 0710 RC1" or "LinuxMCE Install DVD for i386 - 0710 RC1" with "keep settings" option
should they not be "LinuxMCE Install Upgrade DVD for i386 - 0710 RC1" or am I missing something?

thx,
-Coley.
