Developers / production and test core
« on: June 26, 2009, 03:56:40 pm »
Devs,
What do you currently do when you want to swap in and out a core machine, or even just test new features?
I've been out of my house since end last year and am now in the process of moving back and plan to have obviously a dedicated core, possibly bump of the RAM in it and use it as a build server - but then to be able to do some dev, I want to be one of those Indians Thom mentions ;).
I don't want whoever is watching/listening to Media to have to suffer reloads of the router or worse still me taking the routing down if others a browsing through lmce gateway or using voip.
do you use subnets? or VMs
what are the recommendations?

thanks

Users / potential cheap headless core
« on: July 22, 2008, 04:51:15 pm »
I'm going to get one of these and some extra mem as a dedicated headless core
http://www.elara.ie/products/detailsfull.asp?productcode=ECE1574355

This way I can do a clean install any time if I go tinkering with it.

You think it will be up to the task?

Installation issues / missing link destination
« on: June 11, 2008, 06:48:10 pm »
I've been battling on and off trying to get an AMD64 MD going with an i386 hybrid core with no success yet.
I've tried
  • adding MD via webadmin, leaving arch type as i386, clicking setup diskless MD, wait for it to finish generating MD, quick reload router. Then tried booting MD. Nothing, MD gets no IP addr.
Add MD MAC via webadmin, save, reload router, booting MD this time gets ip addr and continues to boot until it loops failing a mount call with error 13. Rebuilding of the image via webadmin doesn't help.
  • Delete above MD via webadmin, re-add as above, set its arch type to be amd64, rebuild image and reload router. Less this time, ip addr received by the MD but cannot boot.
After some digging found that the tftboot directory had the initrd image and vmlinuz had broken symlinks. The symbolic link had the right content but the destination file was not present.

Do these files get pulled out of the PlutoMD-archxxx.tar.bz2 files? My amd64 file appears to be corrupt, bunzip decompresses it ok, but tar complains - I can't rember the exact error - " missing '.' " or something to that effect?
Am I digging in the right direction?

Users / UPnP
« on: April 30, 2008, 11:32:41 am »
Spotted a new entry under configuration for UPNP but when I select it, the main frame on the web-admin page reports it cannot connect on the port it tries.
I see fuppes trying to start on boot but it complains about eth0 not being a complete address - how do I switch it to be my internal NIC?

thanks
Coley.

looks like it should be in my fuppes.cfg file - will check later.

turns out it was on the correct port - the ip address of the internal nic has to be specified - as opposed to localhost, then the config web page appears.

I tried leaving the ip address range blank in fuppes.cfg to allow any ip connect but web admin still only appears when the LMCE admin interface is launched from 192.168.80.1.

Users / MD won't resume playing media
« on: April 07, 2008, 05:08:00 pm »
I started playing a video file on an MD and stopped before it finished. Later when I went to watch again it asked did I want to resume - I said yes, but the file didn't resume, just a black screen then dropped back to the MD idle screen.

any ideas?

Installation issues / YP server
« on: April 07, 2008, 04:50:49 pm »
I got a HP laptop I had knocking around set up to network book as an MD. On boot it tries to connect to a YP server but after a few attempts fails. Do I need to worry? I seem to be able to browse and play media from the core

any ideas?

Users / ipaq 5550 as MO
« on: February 28, 2008, 07:37:50 pm »
I've an ipaq 5550 I'd like to use as a mobile orbiter.
It gets recognised by LMCE and I'm asked what type of device it is.
I choose either of the windows mobile orbiters offered and the s/w gets transferred.
When I try to run this on the device it fails - not a valid PPC application.

I can manually transfer the Xscale Orbiter cab from /users/pluto/installers and it will install and run, but never connect to the router.
I'm assuming the packages LMCE sends me have extra config info to allow the orbiter to communicate.

Any hints on what I need to set up on the orbiter? or am I in fact using the correct install?

thanks

Users / Hiper Media PC
« on: February 27, 2008, 06:30:08 pm »
These look like a nice piece of kit http://www.xcase.co.uk/p/473133/hiper-hmc-2k53a-a3--just-arrived-included-motherboard-dvdrw-remote-am2-cooler-2gb-ram-amd-5000-.html
add CPU+RAM and away you go.
They are based on an MSI K9AGM2 mobo. ATI graphics chip though - will that mean limited to UI2 no eyecandy?
the hiper website for it is http://www.hipergroup.com/English/products/hmc-2k53a-a3.html

Users / extra download failing
« on: February 19, 2008, 03:58:06 pm »
I've upgraded from to 710b3 from an existing install.
Every time I reload the router/restart the system LMCE tries to download lmcevdr and video lan client plugin and come other message - not sure of the exact text but to do with pluto and vdr I think. Is there a way to stop these attempted downloads? or an indication of the pkgs its trying to download so that I can download separately and install?

thanks
